Oct 2, 2009Not sure if this is the right section to ask but,is there a way to turn on auto rotate in google maps? As an example, if i lay down the phone and point it north, the map should point nort. But if i would to rotate the phone, the map should be facing the same direction.

Mar 11, 2010I would like Google Maps to over-ride the sleep timer on my phone and always stay on. I downloaded the app "Trapster", which is a police notification overlay on top of Google Maps. It has the feature of over-riding the sleep timer and keeps the display always on. Disabling the sleep timer is not an option. I would like Google Maps to have the same functionality a 3rd party overlay app is giving me.

Dec 8, 2009I noticed an update for Google Maps to 3.2.1. Being on the Hero, GM is pre-loaded and I don't know how to update it to the new version (since it's not listed in my Market downloaded, being that it was pre-loaded on the phone).Does it automatically do it, or do I have to uninstall and grab the new version from the Market? I went into the settings, but there was nothing there to check for updates, just 'Latitude' and the other standard options.

Nov 24, 2009Anyone know how to keep the screen on while in google maps? Especially while plugged into the car charger. I get annoyed of having to turn the phone on and then unlocking it.... then having gmaps reload to my location while I'm driving.
In my previous TPro, there was a setting where I could just keep the screen on if my phone was plugged in.
Sprint HTC Hero :: Unable To Load The URL - Google Maps
Jan 10, 2010Every time I open Google Maps, a little pop-up window says "Unable to load the URL" The program works fine, it's just kind of annoying. Does anyone else experience this? Is there a known solution? I cleared the cache and data and force-stopped the ap, but it still happens. For what it's worth, the same exact thing happened on my Moment (well, on the Moment Google Maps didn't work at all due to the POS GPS)

Jun 17, 2010So just starting like about a week ago, my phone will reboot if i go into google maps.I press google maps, press menu, then the screen goes to the white background with green htc, and reboots.This happens all the time without fail.This sucks cuz I use the google maps a lot as a traffic report and gps.This is not good.The hero has too many problems.I feel like nothing works properly on this phone.. anyone else have this problem? fix?

Oct 25, 2009A couple of times now I've had this problem on my Hero, and today it was a huge pain in the ass, as I was looking for the place I was headed to but couldn't find it.The problem is my Google Maps couldn't lock onto my signal it was jumping all over the state at first told me I was in Sacramento (one of the turn directions next to it had a misspelling "Socramento", wtf?), then Santa Rosa, then as I kept driving and pressing My Location, it switched to a random street about a mile away, then dumped me in the ocean.During this time, the GPS icon kept blinking and didn't stay solid. Also, once it picked up a location, it didn't continue to update it as it should do.I had to restart the phone and I think it's working OK now but this is at least the 2nd time it's happened to me.

Jan 22, 2010I opened google maps and my location is not accurate at all. I understand that if I turn on gps options it becomes much more accurate, but it's a real battery eater. coming from a 2 year old samsung mysto on Helio network that ran google maps down to the meter for me (and only needed to be recharged every 4 days) it seems like this should work better.Am I missing something? That little mysto couldn't have been running active GPS pinging the whole time. What made it so much better at locating?

Mar 9, 2010When I load Google Maps and it first locates me, it centers the map on my location. Once I am travelling, the map does not follow my location. My location dot will go right off the map and I have to manually drag the map to see the next section I am now driving on.

Nov 21, 2009I have set up the Google Voice App to link to my Google voice account and I select the "ask to use google voice for each call" and the "always use google voice" options and neither work. There is no way to place calls within the app, and when I use the phone app nothing happens. I have no idea what to do. Figured out you can only do that using your contacts. Seems pretty limited, even the generic iphone app could dial direct. Oh well, maybe they will update in the future.

Feb 27, 2010I Only Use The "Landscape"( for Lack of knowing the proper term) keyboard, ya know the one when you hold the phone sideways, but i hate that it always first loads the normal or "portrait" keyboards first, then it has to load the landscape keyboard when i rotate it so i wanna know if i can just have it so that it always loads the landscape keyboard no matter how the phone is positioned i checked the settings and it doesn't seem like you have that option, so is there maybe an app that does this??? anybody have any ideas?

What i did was went to market, download "bubble" app, calibrated g sensor, then calibrated all 3 levels on bubble app. It really worked, i have no idea how or why, but it does. Try it out and post back when you see the difference.

Jun 11, 2010When I am responding to a text, the screen will not rotate.If I initate a text, it will rotate for me when I rotate the phone, but, when someone sends me a text, and I turn the phone to landscape to get the larger keyboard to send with, it will not change.I do have it set to rotate, as it will rotate if I try to do so when sending.Anything I can do about this? Aug 18, 2009When I try and use this the maps often don't appear even when outside, just get left with the grid. Should I do a reset ? (& bearing in mind I still can't get HTC Sync to install on my pc) or is it more likely to be related to the network ? I have both wireless and gps enabled and the latest version of google maps. Sky map seems to work fine (so uses the compass) but not google maps so can't get a map most of the time let alone streetview.

Apr 22, 2010I just recieved my HTC Hero today (second hand) and under build number it has MoDaCo Custom ROM 3.1 Core.
So i assume this means it is running a rooted ROM. Problem is there is no google maps on my phone and i cant seem to get it from the market, nor the google maps website. I did a factory reset before i used the phone.

Dec 21, 2009I used Google Maps as I had some running around to do. I was not using GPS, I have it turned off and have full HSPA (H) showing on phone. Anyways, I put in my first stop and GMaps gave me the directions right away... so no problem.After I was done at the first place, I put in my second stop. GMaps showed exactly the same directions . I've been home now for about 1/2 and still, the exact same directions no matter what I put in.I have not turned the phone off/on or anything like that, because quite frankly, I shouldn't have to!Anyone get this happening with GMaps?

Sep 16, 2010after installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?
