View 32 RepliesI need to find a hard case for my phone with lots of protection any ideas i have the bodyglove already
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to start a hard case review. Anyone got a hard case yet? Will seidio make one for this phone? How about screen protectors? I'm assuming the steinheil crystal for the regular galaxy s they have on the website won't fit?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my Captivate for a few weeks now. I've noticed since day one that the search button 'hard button' on the lower right of the phone, mysteriously 'pressed itself'. The first few times I figured I pushed it on accident with my pinky or something. That Is Not The Case. I know I'm not going crazy but every once in awhile, the hard button lights will go on and the vibrate (I have vibrate set to on) will go on and the search will pop up. All on it's own. This happens at least 5 times a day. If not more. It doesn't do it on any one specific page, it does it no matter what I'm doing on my phone. Sometimes I'll literally watch it just laying in my hand when my phone is on and the search will pop up.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAs I recall, every review for the Captivate dings it for being hard to see the screen in direct sunlight. But is it just me, or is it not that bad? I've been using mine outdoors for running. That includes controlling the media player, switching to email to link to the map my running team emailed to us, and then referencing the map when so I knew where to turn. I'm not reading War and Peace with the reflection of the sun glaring off the screen, but all in all, I've found it pretty easy to use outdoors. What are your thoughts on real world outdoor SAMOLED usability?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a Verizon phone that I can afford to buy without the contract. Can someone either list for me the phones that use the Android OS or tell me the least/less expensive ones? I've been having trouble finding this information.I was at the Verizon store today and liked the Motorola Citrus. I didn't realize until I looked it up later that it was released just yesterday. Any info on this phone? Are there even less expensive phones?Also, do all android phones have google maps/gps? Can the google browser be used with all of them?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe Captivate (and Galaxy S in general) all come with Swype, right? But Swype isn't a market app right now, right? As in, the HTC Aria can't get it unless it is rooted/worked around (not too hard, but a hassle)
So is the Captivate the only phone on AT&T that can officially have swype? We all know that Apple won't let Swype in their market
Is swype coming to the official android market? is it already there? (I don't have an android, but I want one)
I know many developers ask about the best Android phone for development, but my question is almost opposite: What is the least expensive Android phone that I can get away with TTS (text-to-speech) and ASR (automated-speech-recognition) software development?
To further clarify my question:
Do all Android phones support
TTS and ASR?
Do all Android OS versions
support TTS and ASR?
If the answer to either of the above
is 'No', then which brand/model will
provide me with TTS and ASR functionality
while minimizing out-of-pocket
expense?
I have a $300 iPhone app that I might like to port to Android.It is for a very narrow set of users, so no matter how low I make the price, I will never sell very many.But for those few users, it is definitely worth it, as evidenced by my iPhone sales.So the $300 price point is necessary. However I have heard that the Google Android Market puts a limit of $200 on apps.I have also heard that it is possible to distribute apps independently of the Market, in which case I suppose I could charge as much as I wanted. But then I would have to devise my own licensing scheme.Are these assumptions right?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've always been using RelativeLayout everytime I needed a View container, because of it's flexibility, even if I just wanted to display something really simple.Is it ok to do so, or should I try using a LinearLayout when I can, from a performance/good practices standpoint?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone use in ear bluetooth headphones? Looking to buy some but never had a pair before so no idea who makes good bluetooth ones. Are they all really expensive? I wouldn't want to pay more than like 65 for a pair really..
Mainly to be used with my Desire.
OK I'm reading this page:
http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/faq/commontasks.html#thre...
The code is as in the example (see below). In my application, the worker thread has done loading of large bitmaps, and I need to notify the UI thread the filename of the bitmap that was loaded as they get loaded. How can I notify the UI thread of the filename of the bitmap just loaded? I can see anyway to for updateResultsInUi() to be able to take a parameter from the example below.
public class MyActivity extends Activity {
[ . . . ]
// Need handler for callbacks to the UI thread final Handler mHandler = new Handler();
// Create runnable for posting final Runnable mUpdateResults = new Runnable() { public void run() { updateResultsInUi();
} };
@Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
[ . . . ]
} protected void startLongRunningOperation() {
// Fire off a thread to do some work that we shouldn't do directly in the UI thread
Thread t = new Thread() { public void run() {
mResults = doSomethingExpensive();
mHandler.post(mUpdateResults);
} };
t.start();
} private void updateResultsInUi() {
// Back in the UI thread -- update our UI elements based on the data in mResults
[ . . . ]
}
Do the apps get stored on the internal SD card on the phone? Or on the section where it says Internal phone storage?

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I got my phone a week ago or so and it just now started having problems with the GPS and randomly shutting off as well as the battery life being drained within a couple of hours from fully charged. Im guessing I should exchange my phone for a new one within my warranty period. Do I need to bring the original box and everything along with it to exchange it?

View 22 Replies View RelatedSo, got my Captivate yesterday.. first Android device (and loving it). Noticed something weird, when i went to bed last night it was at 50% battery, turned the phone off and plugged it in figuring it would charge overnight. however when I turned it on this morning the battery was at 10%. Not sure if this was just a fluke or not (i'm assuming fluke since I don't see any other posts on it). Can't see why it wouldn't of charged, let alone drain the battery.. any ideas? I can assure you it was off all night.So does this phone only charge when on? Something specific to Android or just a fluke maybe something i should think about a return trip to at&t for? Gona see what happens tonight when I do the same thing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe lady at Rogers (major provider in Canada) said that you should charge you captivate while its off. These will help extend battery life. What do you guys do?
View 16 Replies View RelatedIn the latest version of Google Maps for Android, is there a big search box at the top of the map that you cannot hide? I saw this on a Captivate at the ATT store and it didn't look like there was a way to hide it. This would definitely keep me from upgrading from my current version, 4.3.0. Can you guys take a look and let me know if it's something that can be hidden?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't mind paying as long as the game is good. For the specs of Captivate (1.0Ghz Processor, 512MB ram), Most of the games out there are just pitiful I don't know whether that's the result of lack game developers on Android or programmers today don't know how to optimize, I used to play way better games on a Pentium MX 166Mhz computer with 32MB ram (Quakes, Red Alert, C&C, Diablo just name a few so you know I am not bull shiting).
