Samsung Captivate :: Flashing Back To Stock Firmware
Aug 30, 2010
So I've been tinkering around with Odin and flashing to the many firmwares floating around- the latest is the JFM6 i9000 firmware.. Which also included flashing the CSC and kernel..
My question is, since I flashed the csc and kernel, how do I flash back to the stock JF6 rom that came with the phone? Just the pit and .tar (pda)? I have the firmware and the pit file.. just wondering what is entailed because of flashing the additional csc and kernel files as well.

I currently own a Samsung galaxy s2, which is still in warranty.
I was wondering if after i flash it with a custom ROM of ICS, i was thinking about sticking on Resurrection Remix ics v1.0 PRO.
If it were possible to literally put the stock operating system back onto it, potentially reapplying my warranty?

I am not planning on doing this, but this just popped into my head. If you have installed a custom kernal while rooted, and you want to flash back to 2.2, do you need to install the stock kernal.

Would the process just require using the RUU to flash back to stock and waiting for the update? I am currently all the way rooted and running the Cyanogen nightly.

I bought a Hero (CDMA) from a friend. Wasn't sure if I was going to keep it (bought it dirt cheap so was maybe going to resell it) but after playing around with it I decided to keep it. Rooted it, flashed in custom cyanogen ROM...set it up just the way I wanted it, all before activating the phone. LOL
So as I'm sure many of you know, you can't activate with a custom ROM. From what I've read in other forums, rooting doesn't matter when activating, it's all about the ROM. So I'll have to flash back to stock 2.1 to activate this thing. I called Sprint and played dumb but there was no way they could activate it apparently. Well, technically the phone is "activated" but can not be "programmed" for use with a custom ROM.
So will the flashback to stock 2.1 de-root? Or can I just back up my current ROM, flash to stock 2.1, activate and then simply reload my custom ROM?

Alright this may have been asked a few times, or maybe it could not of been asked. I just can't find the thread related to answering this question.
Okay so my question is, can I flash Galaxo 1.6.2 or GAOSP "without" ODIN flashing or updating my firmware to 1.6? and not then what consequences would occur if I don't flash firmware update before GALAXO 1.6.2 flash. My phone firmware version is I7500ZHJA1 and I believe that is the latest firmware for my region which is still Android 1.5.

I was trying to get my phone to return to stock, because i had a problem with rooted phone. So, i was looking for Firmware for Returning to Stock. and i found one, and used Odin3 to force update with the firmware, then i turned on my phone... and the screen said AT&T WORLD i accidental downloaded AT&T Galaxy S Captivates firmware... and now i cant go to 'Reset Factory Mode' or 'Downloading Mode'. can anyone help me? if i just can go to downloading mode, i can fix this. is there anyway to auto-goto downloading mode when you insert USB? like un-screwing the phone and doing something? i can take any-risk to fix this.

After jacking up my vibrant... I needed to flash back to "out of the box" status. After hunting around a bit I came across this and SUCCESSFULLY flashed my phone back.
I'm passing this on for the people who are new to flashing with this particular phone and don't know where to start etc.

Haven't heard much lately regarding this topic, I hope people don't let Samsung off the hook. We need to keep the pressure applied until something is delivered. What bothers me the most is, if the Epic has the GPS fix, why not the rest of us? Goes to prove that the GPS issue might still be being worked on and Samsung/Sprint are just trying to calm fears.

I seem to be having problems getting access into recovery mode. It's a brand new Captivate and it came preloaded with Firmware 2.1-update1I tried variations on this, but from everything I've heard, this should work just fine: Hold both volume buttons while powering on and keep holding the power button 3 seconds after the ATT logo appears (before it power cycles itself). Nothing triggers, and it just boots up normally.I've also tried the "One Click Root/UnRoot" method, with no luck.Has ATT gotta more aggressive with locking us out?

I'm trying to install the leaked official 2.2 froyo update (I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low.exe) that I picked up from Cognition over on XDA but when I run the Odin one click downloader it hangs at <ID:0/006> Added!!
<ID:0/006> Odin v.3 engine (ID:6)..
<ID:0/006> File analysis..
<ID:0/006> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/006> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
I removed the battery and restarted and flashed the factory ATT ROM and that worked fine. Why this is just hanging up on install. Seems everyone else who's downloaded it had no trouble. I've tried the file direct from design gears and also the mirror on multiupload.

So after flashing to the JH2 firmware, I noticed that the battery is reaching high temperatures during voice calls - Before the firmware flash, the phone would not get above 100 degrees during a voice call. After 8 minutes on a voice call, the phone is reaching upwards of 110 degrees.
