Is there a way to assign multiple ringtones to each number, not to each contact? I have several contacts that have multiple numbers and would like "home" "work" "mobile" etc to all be different ringtones but still remain within the same contact.

Totally new to "smart phones" and feeling pretty dumb right now I have managed to download a bunch of sounds (mpga) and saved them in my "sounds" folder on my Captivate. And following advice, have gone into my Contacts, scrolled down, and assigned a file as ringtone, then hit "Save". When viewing the contact, it shows the file as being assigned as their ringtone. And then when the call comes in.... Rings as default. Whats going on? Do the sounds have to be in the Ringtone folder? If yes, how do I do that? If no, what am I doing wrong?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to JH7, and realized that I can no longer use my own specific audio files as ringtones anymore...its only letting me use the stock ringtones. When I go to Settings > Sound and Display > Voice call ringtone , the only ringtones I can choose from are the ones that came with the phone. It's the only thing that pops up. Theres nothing for me to click anymore that lets me search my android system for audio files.

When I navigate to the MP3 that I want as my ringtone, I tap the menu button to find the "Set as" option, but that option seems to have been removed altogether! Am I missing something here, or have AT&T and/or Samsung decided that we're not allowed to set our personal MP3's as ringtones and therefore are forced to either do without, or buy them from wherever? Has anyone figured out a workaround and/or fix to this problem?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have no SD card yet (its on order now) but I have 20 tones already that I downloaded from Zedge - can I use them now for sms and ringtones without the card then just add them to the physical card once it arrives? I have tried but with no success. I am able to play them in the player just not assign them as. My only guess is it is because I have no SD card yet. I searched the forum but found no topic quite like this.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI always create calendar appointments with an alarm. A few days ago I went to Settings/Sound and Display/Notification Ring tone and set it to "on time". Maybe a day or two later I created my own notification ring tone and set it in settings. The ring tone works fine in Astrid and Nudist. However, the calendar notifications still use the "on time" ring tone. I even tried changing the notification ring tone to "tweeters" but calendar still uses "on time", even after multiple reboots.

View 27 Replies View RelatedI just got my Captivate this past weekend and love it so far. I came over from the HTC Aria so I am a little Android savvy. Question is this. I put a 2GB SD card in my Captivate and want to set one of the songs on it as a ringtone. I would also like for the external SD to be the default location for pictures when I take them. Thirdly, I want to access the external SD card when I connect my phone to the PC via the USB cable, but for the life of me, these 3 issues I cant seem to resolve and they were cake on the HTC.

Now I am trying to link to them and all I get is library. Are the ringtones in the wrong location? The basic process of setting it to a contact (as listed in many places) doesnt seem to work.

It's annoying that when I download ringtones on my Captivate, it puts them right into my music files so that when I'm listening to music, the ringtones pop up and play every once in awhile. I picked up the Captivate the other day and so far I love it but is there a way to assign custom non-Samsung message tones? I mean for texts and emails, calender alerts. When I open the apps and go to settings then change alert tone only the Samsung preloaded ones show up. I can choose any ringtone for calling, just not messaging. I downloaded several apps such as SMS Pop-Up and Chomp SMS to see if that would give me the option to choose any tone but no such luck. My last 2 phones have been a Blackberry Bold 9000 and a Backflip and both those phones had those capabilities. Anyone have any ideas?

The procedure is given on page 75 of the manual. But it doesn't work.When I try it, I get a screen that says to press Menu and touch "Get friends" or "Accounts". But pressing Menu does nothing.I've gone through and activated sync for all accounts (and run sync multiple times), and my contacts DO all show up when I select "Contacts" from the home screen, but the manual's procedure still fails as described above.

Context: I was given a brand new SIM card for it I switched from a Blackberry Bold.The AT&T rep. tried using the machine that connects both phones and synchs contacts from one to the other, but it did not work. My question is: How do you synch contacts from a Blackberry to the Captivate? Before you answer, let me say that I do have a Gmail account and I know the Contacts app can synch with the account, but I do not store my friend's phone numbers on there - and I do not want to individually input each one. Also, I own a Mac and when I had my blackberry I did not back up my contacts on my Mac, and did not have Outlook to back them up onto even if I had tried backing them up - so I cannot simply export my contacts to .csv and load them up to Gmail. There is more I can say (for instance, it seems as if my contacts have been put onto my Captivate, but they're not in the Contacts App that came preloaded with the Captivate...they are, instead, in the folders section under Contacts...how the heck did they get there?!) but I will stop here and see if anyone can guide me through this very frustrating process.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just got a SF about a week ago, and am loving it! I rooted within 30 mins of leaving the store, and wanted to downclock the phone when the screen is off. I've been reading a bit, and apparently the Fascinate downclocks automatically to 100MHz by itself? Can anyone confirm this for me please? I tried setting the screen off profile on SetCPU to 200MHz, but noticed my phone freezing up in standby mode. Nothing would wake it up, except a battery pull. I tried bumping up the speed to 400MHz, same effect. I noticed the problem became worse and worse since I've installed it. I had to stop using SetCPU. The problem went away after I stopped using it. I was using SetCPU 2.00 I believe.Also, another question. Is there anyway to set custom ringtones for individual contacts? I don't see the option anywhere.

Something that was a non issue on my old faithful G1.Samsung, it seems, has seen fit to screw with the contact management making it necessary to have a contact in the phone memory proper to assign a custom ringtone.I have found a simple solution. Download Ringo Lite from the market place. It will allow you to assign ringtones to any contact on the phone in a really simple manner and the app is free. It has other features like assigning rings to sms messages and stuff but I don't care about that or need that. But for setting ringtones it works just dandy.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo yesterday I noticed that I would occasionally receive multiples of the same text message. It started out only being once or twice, but it has increased in frequency. Today, I reset my phone with Odin3 and installed SRE 1.2.2a. Also, I added the lag fix. Unfortunately after resetting, I am still experiencing the same problem. I thought it was an issue with handcent, so I switched to chompSMS and the same thing is happening. Most recently, I have received the same text message 7 times, and it was originally sent an hour ago. The odd thing is that each copy that is sent to me shows the ORIGINAL send time, so its something on my end that is going wrong. For the record I have notifications only turned on for one SMS client at a time, so thats not an issue. i have toyed around with my sms settings and everything but for some reason I still am getting this problem.
