Whenever I try to see if there is a software update for my AT&T Captivate I get this message:
"Communication failed Unable to communicate with the AT&T server"
My current build number is ECLAIR.UCJH7 AND MY Firmware Version is 2.1- update 1.

For 3 weeks now I haven't been able to check for an update for my phone. Everytime I try, it says "Cannot connect to the AT&T server" and it won't let me try again for 24 hours at which point it tells me the same thing. Any advice?
View 12 Replies View RelatedEvery time I try to "Software Update" I get a message that says, "can't connect to AT&Ts server. I've tried it every day for the last two weeks and get the same message every time. Everything else works fine on the phone as far as downloads goes.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I check for a software update I receive the error message :"Samsung cannot connect to the ATT server" This is getting old. I have search the threads on this site and google this problem but can not find an answer to this problem. I have seen other's post the same question and it doesn't seem to get answered. I called ATT and even Samsung neither could explain it either. Samsung had me reset my phone that didnt work and now they want my phone back for 5 days to reflash it. I dont think that will solve the problem either.

When I set up the account everything appears to go well but then I get a modal window telling me to visit orange.seven.com.I've visited that page and it is empty.The same thing happens when I try to connect to a hotmail account and a Google account using the blue Google icon (rather than the default black one). Has anyone managed to get an exchange or hotmail account successfully set up?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a co-worker who suddenly can not connect to her Exchange account via her phone. It mysteriously stopped syncing emails on Dec. 5, and since then the phone can not connect to the server. Error message reported is "Unable to connect to server." I even completely deleted the Exchange account from the phone and attempted to re-add it, but adding a new account failed with the same error message.
The weird thing is that the account worked perfectly fine before Dec. 5, and we can't think of anything that changed on the phone or on the server at that time. Meanwhile, other Android phones in our workplace continue to receive messages from the Exchange server, including my own Nexus 4 with the exact same server settings and another co-worker's Droid Razr.
The problem phone is a Samsung Galaxy S on US Cellular, running Android 2.3.6.
I have a hosting account at godaddy ruinning Linux. Is has MySQL. I am creating a J2ME application that runs on android and I was wondering if there is any simpler way to connect from j2me application to my MySQL server?
Is it required to install anything at my server? which I cannot do because of the shared account. Any way to just open the connection, update some data in the MySQL from j2me application?
I got a Captivate on the Rogers network here in Canada and I have some questions about some weird things I've noticed.
1. Some apps don't show updates when there are updates availableI use AppBrain and when I log in it says there are updates available for the following: Street View, Maps, Movies, Vlingo Voice, and Layar.I checked the version numbers of what is installed on my phone and what's in the market and sure enough the market versions are newer.However, when I open the Market application it doesn't show those applications in the list of downloads (and so no available updates).Also, if I go to the app page for Google Maps for example it shows an Install button, not an update button or "Installed".I use these apps so I know they're installed.What's going on?Is it because they came pre-installed?Can I safely update them through AppBrain even though the Market doesn't even show them as installed?
2. I can't find the Google Car Home app.I have searched via the Market and AppBrain and can't find this app anywhere.
3. Duplicate entries under Accounts and Sync.When I go to Accounts and Sync under settings I have two Facebook entries (both the same Facebook account though) and two Twitter entries (both the same Twitter account though).If I go in to each entry they have different settings. For example, one Facebook entry has just "Sync Contacts" while the other has "SNS setting", "Sync Contacts", and "Sync Calendar".Same with the Twitter entries. Why are these duplicates here?Also, when I go in to some contacts they have duplicate linked contacts from Facebook. So I have one contact who under linked contacts shows two linked contacts, one says it's from Facebook, the other says "Unknown" but I know it's also from Facebook since it has their Facebook picture (and they only have a Facebook profile and aren't in any other service like Google or Twitter).
I have Feeds and Updates showing up twice on one of the home screens. Is there a way to remove one of them?

View 12 Replies View Relatedi cant connect my captivate to my computer.it was fine at first now it doesn't work.when i connect my phone to my computer i do the following:
1)select mass storage
2)scroll the top menu down and select mount USB
3)press mount
Ever since I've updated my phone shuts down randomly. Maybe once every other day, sometimes less. It would be a huge issue but my phone is also my alarm clock for getting up for work at 4am. I don't have any app killers, or battery savers installed. One thing I did notice POST update was, when you go into the running applications menu. The uptimes on the system apps seem to indicate the phone shuts them down to sleep or something. Several times Ive noticed, that even though my phone has been on for several days, the system apps have been running for 5/ 8 hours.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been reading a lot of people getting errors while trying to check for samsung updates on the Captivate. I experienced this as well. I narrowed the problem to various Task Manager apps killing the "Device Management" task that is native to the captivate and launches after each reboot. When this task is killed, you will receive the "DM Initialization Error. Check your network or Sim Card" message every time you try to check for an update. Solution: Reboot and exclude the Device Management process from any of your task killers.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to track down a rogue application that seems to be receiving massive amounts of data. On the iPhone, I would use about 200mb/month due to WiFi at work and at home. However, on the Samsung Captivate, I can go from 100MB/month to 2+GB/month! I noticed huge amounts of data being used on my commutes to and from work.
On occasion, my home WiFi/DSL would get so lagged due to my Captivate being on the network that my son would complain and I would then put the phone in air plane mode. I reasoned that if it was happening on my WiFi network, as well as 3G, then perhaps I could using my router to log the activity to see what sites my phone was trying to connect to, then perhaps I could pinpoint the offending application.
My phone was connecting to a website that was part of a posting that was on facebook, which was only showing on the Samsung "Feeds and Updates" widget. I wasn't running the native facebook application at the time. I had the "Feeds and Updates" widget set to never update, unless I manually did it. Why was it trying to connect when it shouldn't have been? Don't know. Am I certain that this widget was the offending application? Not sure. Since removing the widget, I haven't had any bandwidth spikes.
PS. I tried Droid Wall, but it fails to work.
I am currently running a rooted Samsung Captivate. I have not flashed it or anything and am still running 2.1 with the firmware update (JH7). I rooted to get rid of AT&Ts bloatware which I did using System App remover. With Froyo on the way, I was wondering if a master reset would turn it back to stock (minus AT&T bloatware) and enable OTA updates again?

View 11 Replies View RelatedFor the past few weeks ive been trying to do a software update on my phone. i know 2.2 isnt available yet, but i just wanted to give it a try for sh!ts n giggles. my old captivate that i returned was able to connect to the att server and gave me a message saying that there are no updates available. the new captivate i have wont even connect to the att server. it sucks that i have to wait 24hours until i can try again. everytime ive done it, it gives me that error message. anyone else having this issue? i thought being rooted and having the one click lag fix was the problem so i undid the lag fix and unrooted, but i still got the same error message. im worried that when 2.2 is available, i wont be able to get it since i cant even connect to the att server.

I also have my itouch with me and after it connects with hotel server, a sign-on screen comes up and I enter the server password.
Can't get the Captivate to supply a sign-on screen. Is there some other way to enter the server password that was supplied to me?
I tried searching and didn't have any luck with results, so I apologize if it's been covered, but I'm having difficulties connecting my Captivate to my PC via USB to transfer pictures/data/music.I've had the phone for a few months now but this is the first time I've really attempted to connect, as my pictures are piling up and I'd like to back them up for safekeeping.I already had the drivers downloaded months ago when I first got the phone but when I connected it today, I got a message that Windows (Win 7, 64-bit) failed to recognize the device. I went out, using the link in the Captivate Guide here (which is where I got them initially), and redownloaded the drivers to ensure I had the appropriate/most current version. Installed them, made sure the phone was set to 'Mass Storage' in USB settings, and still fail to connect when I plug the USB cord in. Windows fails to recognize the phone as a device and errors out each time.I tried putting it into USB Debugging Mode, but still get the same thing. I tried 'Ask on connection', I tried Kies, etc and nothing will work.Am I missing a step here, or doing something wrong? This has been extremely frustrating.

The drivers are ok on the PC, it seems to be something with the Captivate.The screen says initializing and seems to cycle between the home screen and USB screen but doesn't establish a connection.

I have synchronized my phone with my exchange server and appear to have lost most of my appointments, and some of the ones that I didn't loose have replicated themselves many times. Does anyone know what caused this, how to stop it, and is it possible to recover the lost appointments? I know I had a lot of things scheduled for this week, but with the exception of a few things that have either been there for a long time or are reoccurring appointments, they are all gone.

View 27 Replies View RelatedI recently got my Samsung Captivate and it works pretty well (even the GPS) however, when I try to update is (manually) it takes forever trying to connect to the server and in the end it never does (and thus I cannot connect for another twenty-four hours).So I said ok, i'll use Kies to update the phone, so I download Kies and try - however, the when I connect Kies says "The Device is not supported by Kies" and as such I cannot interact with my phone in this manner.
