Samsung Captivate : Losing 1% Battery Every 2 Minutes
Jul 29, 2010I have a utility at the top called Battery Indicator reporting the percentage of battery power remaining. I did a test where I would randomly click pages on this site and wait a few seconds on each page, over 3G, and concluded I was losing 1% every 2 minutes. Is this normal or is it comparable to your experience?

Nov 15, 2010I got a Captivate on the Rogers network here in Canada and I have some questions about some weird things I've noticed.
1. Some apps don't show updates when there are updates availableI use AppBrain and when I log in it says there are updates available for the following: Street View, Maps, Movies, Vlingo Voice, and Layar.I checked the version numbers of what is installed on my phone and what's in the market and sure enough the market versions are newer.However, when I open the Market application it doesn't show those applications in the list of downloads (and so no available updates).Also, if I go to the app page for Google Maps for example it shows an Install button, not an update button or "Installed".I use these apps so I know they're installed.What's going on?Is it because they came pre-installed?Can I safely update them through AppBrain even though the Market doesn't even show them as installed?
2. I can't find the Google Car Home app.I have searched via the Market and AppBrain and can't find this app anywhere.
3. Duplicate entries under Accounts and Sync.When I go to Accounts and Sync under settings I have two Facebook entries (both the same Facebook account though) and two Twitter entries (both the same Twitter account though).If I go in to each entry they have different settings. For example, one Facebook entry has just "Sync Contacts" while the other has "SNS setting", "Sync Contacts", and "Sync Calendar".Same with the Twitter entries. Why are these duplicates here?Also, when I go in to some contacts they have duplicate linked contacts from Facebook. So I have one contact who under linked contacts shows two linked contacts, one says it's from Facebook, the other says "Unknown" but I know it's also from Facebook since it has their Facebook picture (and they only have a Facebook profile and aren't in any other service like Google or Twitter).

Samsung Captivate :: Phone Randomly Shutting Down After Updates
Sep 25, 2010Ever since I've updated my phone shuts down randomly. Maybe once every other day, sometimes less. It would be a huge issue but my phone is also my alarm clock for getting up for work at 4am. I don't have any app killers, or battery savers installed. One thing I did notice POST update was, when you go into the running applications menu. The uptimes on the system apps seem to indicate the phone shuts them down to sleep or something. Several times Ive noticed, that even though my phone has been on for several days, the system apps have been running for 5/ 8 hours.

Jul 27, 2010I've been reading a lot of people getting errors while trying to check for samsung updates on the Captivate. I experienced this as well. I narrowed the problem to various Task Manager apps killing the "Device Management" task that is native to the captivate and launches after each reboot. When this task is killed, you will receive the "DM Initialization Error. Check your network or Sim Card" message every time you try to check for an update. Solution: Reboot and exclude the Device Management process from any of your task killers.

Sep 28, 2010I am trying to track down a rogue application that seems to be receiving massive amounts of data. On the iPhone, I would use about 200mb/month due to WiFi at work and at home. However, on the Samsung Captivate, I can go from 100MB/month to 2+GB/month! I noticed huge amounts of data being used on my commutes to and from work.
On occasion, my home WiFi/DSL would get so lagged due to my Captivate being on the network that my son would complain and I would then put the phone in air plane mode. I reasoned that if it was happening on my WiFi network, as well as 3G, then perhaps I could using my router to log the activity to see what sites my phone was trying to connect to, then perhaps I could pinpoint the offending application.
My phone was connecting to a website that was part of a posting that was on facebook, which was only showing on the Samsung "Feeds and Updates" widget. I wasn't running the native facebook application at the time. I had the "Feeds and Updates" widget set to never update, unless I manually did it. Why was it trying to connect when it shouldn't have been? Don't know. Am I certain that this widget was the offending application? Not sure. Since removing the widget, I haven't had any bandwidth spikes.
PS. I tried Droid Wall, but it fails to work.
Samsung Captivate :: Master Reset Clear Root To Allow OTA Updates?
Oct 3, 2010I am currently running a rooted Samsung Captivate. I have not flashed it or anything and am still running 2.1 with the firmware update (JH7). I rooted to get rid of AT&Ts bloatware which I did using System App remover. With Froyo on the way, I was wondering if a master reset would turn it back to stock (minus AT&T bloatware) and enable OTA updates again?

Samsung Galaxy S :: Calendar Appointments Out By 30 Minutes
Jul 27, 2010I have configured my phone to connect to my Microsoft Exchange server and when the calendar syncs all the appointments are 30 minutes early. I have connected to a second exchange account on a different site and it does the same. I have checked the timezones and they are correct. Also the default purple with black text is drive me nuts so any suggestions on changing this would be great.

Aug 12, 2010Just got the phone and loving it so far but im having major issue's with You Tube, Most video's take about 5 mins to load in low quality and in high quality it can take upto 30 mins or more which of course by that time the phone locks and the video has to restart again.
Any suggestions as to why it takes so long? Also is there a setting for video's to automatically start in high quality? And for the phone not to lock?

Samsung I7500 :: Firmware Updates
Oct 22, 2009I have an unlocked 02-germany Galaxy on Orange UK. This was all news to me today that the Galaxy users aren't entitled to Over-The-Air updates nor is it apparently a "Google" phone in the same way the HTC G1 is. (Samsung, when are we getting Donut?). I'm not clear what the distinction is. Maybe someone can tell me. This is a big let down to be honest, I wouldn't have probably bought the device if I knew this. Even app updates nots don't come through and my bro has been showcasing Donut on his G1 (also on Orange UK) all morning to make matters worse. Any news on when we get donut now? Is this the only non-OTA updated Android device. How does one confirm this? I presume the Magic is however.

Jul 27, 2010Okay, start at the start! got this phone (unlocked pay as you go) from Clove (Excellent) and put my o2 pay as you go sim inside, and straight away im on 3g no problems.....
Then..... See some nice new firmware, (JM2) and think i will have some of that! (Install with odin, not using CSC file Initially, then using CSC -- EURO ? not UK specific? file included with update
And now....
On both counts i have had to manually install the apn settings, (no problem)
But....
Apps are missing from the market place, (new google id & with & without csc file)
Im thinking the CSC file is more important than we think, in that it holds APN information for UK operators, and that when you go into marketplace this CSC file reflects a UK phone in some way, and displays according apps
Battle for Mars ... only the lite version is available HistoryEraser ... is no longer available etc etc...
So two things can anyone with JM2 see those apps?, and other thing I have a feeling that Kies won't update our phones to the latest firmware (Eventually) if our csc file reflects that our phone is a EURO phone, not neccesarily a problem if you use odin but you know what i mean!
Other thing that i wasnt aware of ... using odin resets battery stats. On xda developers there is a fix for this
Last thing......
Can someone who can see these apps upload the csc file somehow.

Samsung Moment :: Firmware Updates
May 29, 2010I didn't do a before/after comparison of the firmware in my Moment, during the upgrade to 2.1. But did a firmware update come along with 2.1, or was that strictly an upgrade of the Android software?
Maybe there's something there, that would resolve the CDMA lockups that we sometimes encounter, since the 2.1 update didn't entirely solve the problem.
Maybe we'll see an update from Sprint/Samsung.

To be fair, I doubt that it would really take until Dec. 25th to get it done but its just ironic in my opinion with all the Samsung hate (by reason of software updates) as of late.

Oct 25, 2010I rooted my captivate thinking that i could install apps that are blocked on my phone, like Sirius XM, WiFI tethering.....even after rooting the programs are still being blocked and i cant install them. am i missing something? im new to android and had an iphone that i jail broke. im confused on what rooting actually.

I got my phone from AT&T store where my friend works so he took my data plan out of the plan for now but he said they will find out and add into your plan again. Also, He said that they recognize by your IMEI number. My question is: Is there anyway I can change my IMEI number? I was thinking to use my simple free Nokia phone's IMEI number and use it for Samsung Captivate so AT&T thinks that I am using Nokia phone.
