So last night I got a new text, drug the puzzle piece to the slot, and the screen froze.A few moments later I get a force close error for messages.Fine, it closes.I try to open it, nothing.I check task killer, it's not running.I reboot the phone, messages comes up, all messages are gone

This is the second time this has happened. All of the sudden, without warning, all my contacts are gone. I sent a text not 10 mins ago, at that point everybody who I'd texted had their names and photos next to the texts. Now, I'm left with just a bunch of numbers. I checked my "Contacts" app, and it's empty. It did the same thing about a week ago, but it was early and I had a Nandroid backup from the night before, so I only lost about two texts. My last backup is from two days ago, too much for me to restore back that far. Any idea a) WHY this would happen, as randomly as it did? and b) How to get back any contacts that might not transfer from a GMail/Facebook Sync? Would this be a problem with the phone, or something I did to the phone that would make it do this literally randomly?
I guess I'll throw in that I mainly use Handcent, have ChompSMS on here as well, and haven't used the default messaging app since I downloaded Handcent. I also am no longer able to sync Facebook it appears.
Also, contacts are the only thing missing. All other data is still there, along with all apps and even my homescreen layout is still intact.
I've had my Captivate since the 19th of July and have been pretty happy with it but today my email accounts disappeared from my phone.I've been using the email app that came with the phone without issues but today my personal gmail and my work exchange accounts vanished. I noticed I hadn't received a new email notification in several hours so I went to check my email it prompted me to setup an email account. Anyone else have this happen? I only have 2 days to return my Captivate, it's been a good phone so far but I cant afford to lose my email accounts for no apparent reason again. I haven't installed any new apps or made any changes to the phone.Coming from the Blackberry world I took it for granted that email just worked flawlessly.

On my Captivate, I have all my contacts synced from my pc's google account. So when I click on Phone, Contacts, all my contacts have the google logo next to the phone number. When I click on Groups it shows Family, Friends, Google, etc. It has zero contacts in all groups except for 30 contacts in my Google groups.(which is all the contacts I have in my phone.) On my friends Captivate, he doesn't have his contacts synced from Google. He goes into his Contacts, Groups and can click on Family or Friends and can add people from his contacts to the Family or Friends group. I can't do this cause all my contacts are synced from Google.

I haven't received any texts since yesterday but all calls and outgoing texts work fine. Is there any way to fix this or do I have to un root?

View 10 Replies View RelatedWell, right now, I have an iPhone 2G with a 20 dollar data plan that also includes 200 texts. It's part of a family plan, and I'm probably going to go Samsung Captivate or iPhone 4 in a few days. My questions include
1. Can I just use the 20 dollar data plan for the iPhone with that phone, like, without them knowing? Any serious consequences involved with it?
2. Similar to the first question, can I just use the non-smartphone data plan, which is 15 bucks a month, and use that with the Captivate? Would they know which phone is using it?
3. Once I switch to limited data, like 200 MB or 2 GB, can I switch back to unlimited?
I don't pay my own bills, parents do, but don't want to put on an extra 10 or 15 dollars a month right now, just for data, when I could just continue using whatever I'm using.
Just got my refurbished Captivate in the mail today, charged and activated it as per the instructions. It worked just fine for about 30 minutes or so. I put on a few apps and showed them off to my roommate, and things were going fine. Then all of a sudden I couldn't send or receive phone calls, nor was I able to get/send text messages. With no pattern or logic I would go from 3g to edge to neither of the two symbols (just full signal strength) to the international no sign where my full bars just were. If I typed and tried to send a text while the no sign was visible it would send and receive texts as soon as I got signal back, but that would only last a few minutes.
I've tried hard and soft resets and restoring the phone to factory settings, all to no avail, as well as checking my message center number. I've looked around in the forums and can't seem to find anyone who has had this problem, and I was hoping someone would have some advice or could point me to a thread that I may have missed. I'd talk to AT&T but chat hours are over and I have to be up early for work tomorrow and need my phone for that, so I'm not sure I can ask customer service tomorrow beforehand.
I haven't gotten text messages in 3 days. I haven't changed any of the SMS settings so I'm wondering what happened. I can send out, but not receive. Any ideas?

So this morning I got a text after she took the girls to school and she was heading to work that all her contacts we're gone. I've read on other posts to put all other contacts checked and it should be fine. So hopefully it works. Is there a way to save contacts to the mirco SD card at all? I have a Samsung Galaxy S, international version, not SIM-locked, not rooted, running Android 2.1-update1. Today I suddenly noticed that my Contacts icon has disappeared from the bottom bar (so I'm not talking about any widgets or shortcuts which the user can manipulate, it's the one which is supposed to sit between the Phone and Messaging icons). The contact data hasn't gone anywhere, I can access contacts through the Phone app, but the missing Contacts icon still bothers me.
I have updated a bunch of apps recently - all of which I have used for a long time before without any problems, such as: Advanced Task Cleaner Pro, Smart Keyboard, Layar, Google Maps, KeePassDroid, Retro Camera and maybe something else too. Today I also erased the trial version of the dictionary app SlovoEd Deluxe and installed the paid version.
Now, should I try to erase the (free) apps one by one to see if that solves the problem, or do I have to go for a hard reset/return to factory settings straight away?
I used to have the "1X" icon on my notifications bar. According to the manual, it meant that I was connected to the "3G" network and was transmitting data (fyi with Sprint). That icon has since disappeared?
Does that mean that i'm no longer connected to 3G speeds?
Okay, so I've searched and found nothing similar to this - my phone deleted all the pictures that I've taken, every single one. From the SD card. I haven't done anything unusual, although the phone did a spontaneous reboot this morning. All the rest of my files seem to be there, including some desktop background images that showed up in the photo gallery - it just deleted the photos that I've taken. It's not rooted or anything, just running stock with the OTA update. WTF is that all about? I am beyond fed up with this kind of garbage.

To add music to my moment i usually take out the SD card put it in the adapter and and drag music into the music folder from my laptop once the SD card in in plugged in. The last time i did this, i put the SD card back into my phone after just adding music to it and my music library was empty. i plugged the SD card back into the computer and the music folder is missing. i tryed to add all the songs back into the phone but the computer tells me the SD card is too full. Ive checked the entire SD card to make sure i didn't just accidentally drag and drop the music folder somewhere else but theres been no luck. any suggestions?

Problem: I get the normal notification of an SMS in the status bar, but when I go to "Messaging" (the default SMS client - no Handcent or other installed), the SMS is not there.
I have deleted several large SMS threads in case this is a memory issue.
I just activated my new fascinate and can not receive or send texts from my GF (who is on att) but I can get texts from my roommates (on verizon). Anyone know what the deal is?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I get picture texts, it comes up with a play button in the message thread. Clicking it will 'play' the image for 10 seconds, and I found out I can tap the screen and hit pause to look at the pic longer... but I can't figure out how to save the image. I've tried:
holding finger on the play button in-thread
holding finger on the image
hitting the menu button on either page
with no success.
I rooted my captivate thinking that i could install apps that are blocked on my phone, like Sirius XM, WiFI tethering.....even after rooting the programs are still being blocked and i cant install them. am i missing something? im new to android and had an iphone that i jail broke. im confused on what rooting actually.
