Motorola : Flashing P3Droid Kernal Or New ROM Restore Apps?
May 16, 2010
I recently rooted 2.1update1, I backed up twice with sprecovey...2.1 unrooted, 2.1 rooted. Then downloaded Ti backup and did a full backup of apps. I bought ROM manager and downloaded p3droid 1ghz kernal and flashed it. I know it probably worked but I ended up restoring to the back up that ROM manager made just before flashing p3droid kernal. How can I restore my settings and apps after I flash a ROM? Is there a way to add p3driod to over clock without overiding my apps?Didn't want to get in too deep without finding out first. I read for weeks before I rooted, Im ready for the quick answer. Im considering CM or Nexbeast...not sure. I really don't mind the rooted droid OS, but id like to use wireless tether and over clock a little. If I flash to a new rom can I redownload TI backup and have it restore all my apps from my SD? I also have sprecovery backups on my PC, but that wont help because they were created on stock 2.1 rooted.

I have been using Fresh 3.2 but have been playing around with other kernels (ie Toast, King, etc.). I want to return to the new kernel in Fresh 3.2 but can't seem to find it (I only want to flash the kernel so I don't have to do a complete wipe). Flipz says to use the Fresh Updater, but I see no options for kernel only.

I am using a P3Droid 800 low voltage kernel. Before, setcpu would read the OMAP3 temp. It will not do so any longer. I installed temp monitor and asked it to display cpu temp on the screen and it told me that I was not using a Tasmanian custom droid kernel? So I basically cannot utilize the cpu temp function with P3Droid's kernel.

Now that I'm fully rooted I'd like to experiment with a few different ROMs. My issue is: I'm a heavy user of Folder Organizer (great product). After I rooted initially, I flashed the Fresh 3.3 ROM after backing up using Titanium, Astro File Mgr, AND MyBackup Pro (I don't mess around). After I was done with the flash, I went to restore with Titanium. It didn't restore all of my apps, and actually not much of my data (for example, it didn't restore SMS for some reason). No worries: I went to my Astro backup, it got a few more of my apps, no data.
Finally, I turned to MyBackup Pro, fortunately it restored my SMS data. To wrap it up, I wound up having to restore a few apps from AppBrain, and I had to reset all the folders in Folder Organizer (a real pain). Is there a can't miss backup/restore process when flashing ROMs with Folder Organizer? I don't mind having to restore a few missed apps, but it takes hours to get the folders back. I'm also paranoid about the missind SMS data, but I think I have that covered.

I have a new D2 as a replacement for my D1. I like it, but I hate mutable. I have been able to successfully replace the messaging app to stock androids, but I am looking to replace the dialer, contacts app, and the car dock to the stock android ones. Any advice on how to do so? I cant install via an adb connection, and I cant install it with any file managers, so I really don't know what else to try. Also, please dont suggest any ROMs, I prefer to do it all myself.

First of all, salute to BH_MAN for offering so much joy to BHII users.
My questions is how to back up my apps. Everytime I flash a new ROM, all my installed apps and settings are wiped away. If there a way to back them up and restore them after flashing?

Installed Flash Rec after trying to root my hero (following the guide stickied to the top of this forum) and its not giving me the button/menu item to flash it. My options are to Download Recovery Image (Grayed out) or Restore Backup Image which once clicked gives information 'Backup Complete'. How do I proceed?

How come there are certain apps that will not allow me to restore even though I have a valid backup for it. For example I have the HTC_IME with a valid backup but when I click in within TB my only option is to delete the backup file, no restore available. There are other apps like that as well.

I am trying to batch restore all of my apps and it gets to about 4% and the phone restarts. I can not figure out why it is doing this. I have used it many many times before and never had had this problem. Though I know it did start when I loaded up CM6 and it also did the same thing. I am now back too BB .04 and it is doing the same thing. I assume it is some corrupted file somewhere?

Will titanium backup restore the market links with the apps so that I can still receive market updates?
I want to change ROMS without having to make a list of my current apps and reinstall each one. But I still want the ability to restore and get updates for all the apps I have.
And one other question, when I backup my apps, and then do a nandroid restore I assume Titanium backup will need to be reinstalled. Once I do this will I still be able to restore the apps from the SD card?

I Installed Smoked Glass V5.0 from V4.5. I ended up doing it twice, and to make a long story short I lost my files in AK Notebook.
Here's my question:
1. Should I backup my current configuration
2. Then "Restore" my backup prior to upgrade
3. Grab my files (hoping they will be there) toss them on my mac
4. Then just "Restore" back to where I am now?
Need those files by tomorrow, any assistance is much appreciated. It's not that it's an emergency without them, but I will have to do some legwork to gather that info again.

I installed my first custom rom and kernal yesterday and unfortunately I'm having some battery problems. I left my phone on for 7 hours idle and it only has about 80% left.
The rom i used is BB .4, Kernal is Chevy ULV 1gig
My idle temp is 26c, basic use temp is 36c (browsing, right after quadrant use), is that high?
The usage breakdown is:
Total time on: 6hrs 52 m
Phone Idle: 26% 6hrs 43 min
Cell Standby 20% 6 hrs 49 min
LauncherPro 16% 5m 56s
Android System 12% 4m 32s
FlipClock Blackout 9% 3m 31s
Voice Calls 8% 1m 35s
Display 7% 6m 7s
If it is the kernal then i have to go back to stock right? because ULVs use the least amount of power?
During installation of rom and kernal, i did the wipe data/cache stuff. I also installed a custom boot animation. lots of stuff to do on my first day.

I have the FRF57 Froyo ROM installed, and with it comes a 600 OC. I'd like to push it up to 1GHz, but I'm unfamiliar with OCing the Droid. Could you guys post a link to the kernal, please? I can't find one. I'm using the Clockwork flash. Also, to install the kernal, is it the same as installing the ROM? (unzip it into clockwork backup folder, boot in recovery, and restore it?)

Might someone on the official 2.2 OTA look at what their baseband and kernel version is and post it here. I just updated but want to confirm that I got the full update and not just the system files.

Is it possible to backup all your apps using something like astro, copy them to your computer, compress them into a zip file, move that back to your phone and flash that after flashing a ROM to restore your apps, is this even possible or is it more complicated than that?

It looks like Chevy's kernal is breaking the root access for Titanium. Anyone else having the same issue? When I first installed BB .7, Titanium worked fine. Then I installed Chevy's kernal and now it doesn't have root access. Looks like a couple other people are having the same issue on AllDroid. I'm using BB .7 with Chevy's 1ghz kernal.

I've rooted my Desire, and am currently using the deFrost FroYo ROM.I'm trawling through and looking at different ROM options.I currently have all of my applications installed on the SD Card.If I take out the SD Card with the installed apps, and use a 'fresh' SD card to flash the new ROM, will putting the original SD card in the phone retain all of the apps and just work 'as is'? Or do I still need to back them all up somehow?

What is the best way for restoring apps after a ROM install. Currently I am using Defrost but it updates that often I try to keep up. I have got into the practice of making a backup using ROM manager then doing a full cache and data wipe before installing the new ROM.
I have been letting the phone do its own thing and eventually the apps seem to restore themselves eventually, but is there a quicker way to restore them after a full wipe.

Generalized Android question. I'm currently on an HTC Hero, getting an HTC Aria. I am only a couple weeks into the Hero so still learning. When I move to the Aria, is there an easy way to restore the apps I have already put on my Hero or do I need to download them individually, again?
