i have a replacement phone coming today, and dont want to have to download all my apps again, and i know on 2.2 you can save them on sd card. how do i do this? or is there another way to back up apps?

Would anybody know how I can transfer my apps to my SD card? I am unrooted FYI-(all factory settings) I have the Astro filemngr...how the heck do i transfer my apps to SD so my OS wont be bogged down(won't this action help my phone w speed??) my mDroid tells me that "space" is limited,"isn't that b/c I have not put those apps on my card. Do they automatically load NOT on my card.

For the record, to go back stock all I have to do is plug my phone in, flash 2.0.1 with RSDlite and download the OTA. right?? I mean when VZW puts out the real 2.2, I assume if I went to that I would be at a disadvantage? I see a lot of people with the processor speed on their home page. How do I get that there? When I did the factory reset google had all of my purchased apps saved, I had to re-download them all of course. I'm pretty sure that it would transfer over to a new phone but that is only an assumption, I was hoping one of you guys with waaaaaaay more tech and computer smarts would be able to confirm this for me.

I called to Samsung support in finland and they said that i have to format the sd card and after that you can transfer some very few applicatoins to sd card but however i have not managed to transfer even one application. I have tried app2sd and searched around the internet in order to find some way to transfer apps to sd card. I found from youtube some kind of way, but there was like downloading some program to computer and then connecting the sd card and phone separately to computer and then giving some commands to computer and copy and cut and clicking thousands folders and some more stuff i didnt really understand the whole thing was really complicated. I am starting to be really frustrated for this problem or whatever it is, its just stupid to even put this kind of faulty "function" to any kind of smart phone. In every other way samsung galaxy xcover 2 is very excellent and easy to use, but i think transfering apps to sd is very important function/tool. I know that different cards read and write at different speeds. SO, in theory, you could slow down how fast your apps run by placing them on an SD card. Is this the case? Or does the card run fast enough that you are only seeing improved performance.

View 3 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is an issue with the ROM I'm using (Sapphire 1.0), ADW Launcher, or just an issue with Android. Any app I have installed on SD doesn't show its icon. Example, I had a shortcut to Vignette on my home screen. Once I moved it to SD it no longer showed the little Camera icon, just a generic Android icon. This happened with every app I moved.

I'm running UD 2.1, and loving the shit out of it. However, I have a couple questions about apps on the SD card:
-Is it possible (and/or smart) to put all apps onto the SD card?
-If yes, what's the best procedure? (partition required?)
-Does the market recognize apps to update/etc from the SD?
-Can you set apps to install to SD by default?
-And finally, if all apps are on the SD, does that remove the need to backup/restore apps when switching between roms?
