View 1 RepliesI just got my first Droid. I was wondering with gtalk is there anyway to set a Notification for when someone signs on to there gtalk or gmail.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone know if there's a way to do this? Right now I have to keep an eye on the notification LED and that doesn't really work if it's in my pocket...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 Gmail Accounts, one for business/school and the other for friends/personal/gtalk. Is there anyway I can run my gmail app with the business account and Gtalk with the other account? It's kind of obnoxious to have to switch back and forth.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have this weird issue with my newly rooted Droid, whenever I turn on USB Storage, five apps that I have (ShootMe, Factbook, Dictionary.com, TTS for google translate and Battery Gauge Widget) remove themselves from my phone.
I did some searching around my phone and realized that all five of these apps are in a folder called ".android_secure". What can I do about this annoying problem? Can I move them into another folder where all my other apps are or something? Anyone else have a similar problem?
I am unable to use Gtalk, gmail, Maps, Market, Email (all pre installed) using GPRS/EDGE (Vodafone Live) on my Milestone. But All of these works with Wi-Fi connection. I installed Meeboo Messanger, this is also not working with GPRS/EDGE.
I called Motorola Customer care, they are saying that I have to take a DataPlan from Vodafone and should ask Vodafone to activate all GPRS/EDGE settings on my mobile. So I took a DataPlan (200 Rs. 100 MB), Vodafone People are saying that all available setting are already activated on my cell. But I am still unable to use any of them above. Every time no network connection found error is coming.
Is anyone else having issues with gmail notifications? I check my gmail and have emails from a day ago but no notifications have come through. Sync for each account is turned on and background data is turned on. I have factory reset twice and it has fixed nothing. Deleted all folders in my gmail accounts as well.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I get a new email on gmail, I pull down the notification drop down, select the email then view the email, and out of habit or ease of use, I hit the home button ...because it just makes sense that if I don't need to respond that I want to go back to the home screen directly. Why in the hell does the stupid notification not go away until I check the email 2 times.the only way the notification goes away is if when I select the email to check, I have to hit the back button which takes me back to the email list then either hit back again or home.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to urn off) the differentiate (and turn off) gmail notification from the SMS notification? Is there any way to set different ringers for different SMS contacts?
View 20 Replies View RelatedI've had my Droid since they came out last year. Somehow I was able to configure notification lights for Gmail and Handcent, but I don't remember how. I had to wipe my phone and start over and now I can't figure out how I did that. I have Touchdown Pro for Exchange and that allows me to customize the LED for that app, but I can't find the settings for Gmail or Handcent. I know they used to be there, but I can't remember what I did to make them appear. I must have installed a third-party app, but I have no idea what it was. Any idea how I did it? I'd really like to get those notification LEDs back!
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo when I get a new email from my gmail account, the icon appears on my drop down menu. When I click the notification it brings me to the email, but the notification remains at the top of the bar until I click it again, which brings me to my inbox. This is not really a big issue, it just kind of gets annoying clicking every email twice. Any solutions?
View 2 Replies View RelatedUnless I'm mistaken, it seems the X only ringtones or vibrates one time when an SMS, MMS or GMail is received. There does not seem to be a method to allow periodic ringtones, vibrations or LED blinks -- to indicate a message was received. So the only way to see if you have a message seems to be to wake the phone up. If true -- this would be a real bummer.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI made the switch from the (surprise) iPhone on the day of release to the Moto Droid. I really do like the phone, but there are 2 consistent quirks that I can't find an answer to after searching Google and many many forums.
1. Lock screen timeout. This one really annoys me for some reason (probably just because I feel like it's a waste of battery life). So I have the screen timeout set for 1 minute, so if I have the phone unlocked, and I don't use it for 1 minute then it locks itself (fine, good). BUT, if I have the phone locked, and I just hit the Home/Lock button on the top of the phone to see the lock screen, WHY does the lock screen stay on for the same amount of time (1 minute) before going off again??? If I don't unlock the phone, I just want that screen to turn off quickly, maybe in 5-10 seconds.
2. Gmail notification. I have 2 gmail accounts (1 for school, 1 personal), and it's the only mail I use or have set up on the phone. All I want to have is a notification of gmail in the taskbar so when I hit the Home/Lock button and see the lock screen, I can tell if I have gmail or not. I DON'T want the LED to blink if I don't check or delete the mail (turning LED gmail notification off). (Having the number of mails would be nice too, either in the taskbar or on the home screen, or optimally, both).
So, I would like to assign separate ringtones for my gmail and sms alerts. Apparently, the Android system groups these together; I can assign a different tone for regular email, but not gmail, as the Android system groups them under "notifications." Is there an app out there for this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI would get a Green Led Notification for GMAIL . And then when i would i check it , it doesn't show on my status bar . It stayed like this for almost two days .. and then just then I signed up for this forum it sent me and email to my phone .. surprisingly .. my Led blinks , the phone vibrates and GMAIL shows on the status bar ..What can I do to prevent the GMAIL &continuously Led blinking .. to happen again ? What's wrong with my DROID ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there an app out there for 2.0 that will allow me to specify the color of the LED based on whether it is an email, gmail, facebook? I already have Handcent for SMS.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIt is easy to find on google which is the broadcast receiver to listen for sms messages. Is there also a similar receiver to listen for gtalk messages or new emails?
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes the gtalk use sms? am I getting charged for text messages? verizonwireless.com has a 3 day day on my current usage, so it's hard to test.
View 4 Replies View RelatedBoth my wife and I have the droid, no matter what we set our status to (available, DND) in the gtalk app we appear away to everyone. The status messages seem to update fine though. Is their a setting we're missing, or is there a bug in the gtalk app?
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy business Gmail account is the main account on my X and I have a personal Gmail account also on my X. The issue is I want to use my personal email for Gtalk but I am unable to log in with that email, it seems that my business email is locked in. any suggestions?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I did a rename to the file gtalkservice.apk to *.bak. I never use the app because I have eBuddy. But since I did it I am getta the error that com.google.process.gapps is force closing when I reboot the phone. Is this caused because gtalk is gone? And why?
Now the weirdest thing is that GTalk is still there, but I've previously been successful on Visual Voicemail, and others.
How do i log off gmail and gtalk. I tried disabling the data traffic and clearing the cache.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason it can't stay logged in, Gtalk logs in and out like every 5 seconds. I have deleted the app, factory rest, battery pulls but no luck. The factory reset was for multiple reasons.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo sometimes I'll go into my contacts and notice that some of them have the green ball lit up telling me that they are online in gtalk. Now I am not signed onto gtalk... but yet somehow I see that in my running services that GTalkService is running.
I can only assume that its eating away battery trying to see how is online and not. I certainly don't need this info unless I wish to go online myself... in which case I would actually go into the gtalk app.
ANyways, obviously i've been killing it in the running services, but it just comes back all on its own. ANy idea why or how to stop it?
I have a CLIQ that has gtalk always running, and sometimes I'm also on a PC with gtalk running on gmail. How can I control which device I'm chatting on? I notice that sometimes when I leave my PC and go for lunch or something and someone sends me a gtalk message, I don't get it on my phone. Only after checking my chat history in gmail do I see it. This sometimes happens even after I shut down my PC if the user sends a message right after I do so.
View 5 Replies View RelatedGoogled this issue and can't seem to find the resolution. I am using the Gmail app which came pre-installed on the phone. I have entered my account details, I can send emails but I don't get a notification when I receive an email to my Gmail Inbox. I have checked the settings and I have setup a ringtone and selected the option to flag up an icon in the notification bar. However the only way I know I have an email is if I open the app. I have a task manager and Gmail is on the ignore list.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIf you are a business user like me, then you probably need your phone to sound EVERY time you get a new email, not just at the first unread message. This has been so frustrating since I purchased the Droid, and a quick google search showed that this is a problem many have but google was not exactly rushing to fix!
Issue 4190 - android - Gmail Notifications Bug?Project Hosting on Google Code.I stumbled upon Gmail Notifier (free) in the android market a couple of days ago, and it fixes the problem! Plus, it has has multi-account support and custom options regarding LED color, vibration length, etc. And it does not run in the background, so no decreased battery life, etc.The original version did not have support for multiple accounts, but I sent a quick email to the Dev and he fixed it in the new update that came today!I'm using it in conjunction with Gmail Unread Count widgets, and finally the email on my Droid is up to par with (well, actually better than) my old blackberry!
Figured I'd ask one more odd question...
Is there a setting or app that would allow me to add a "gtalk" icon to a contact so that when I select a contact I would get the option to directly "talk/chat" with them via "Gtalk"?
Currently, when I select a contact I get the following icons:
"phone or call", "edit info", and "Instant Message"
I'd like to add to that list the "Gtalk" option.
I fooled with the Gmail app a bit yesterday, and came to the conclusion that I only get a single audible notification for multiple e-mails, even when they are spread out over many minutes. Going in to the Gmail app and viewing new e-mails seems to be the only thing which resets things so that a new audible alert occurs. (BTW, the testing was performed by sending e-mail from a PC using a non-Gmail account.)Anyone else notice this? Clearing notifications in the notification panel doesn't seem to affect things - I was only able to trigger a new audible alert if I went into the app and opened one of the e-mails.Note that I could observe the same behavior even if the phone wasn't sleeping (e.g. powered by the USB, "never sleep" policy, and with the ddms monitor running).Seems like this should be reported as a bug - if I am purposefully ignoring my phone for whatever reason, there's no way I can tell the difference between one arriving e-mail or twenty.
Separately, I tried to answer the question, "does Gmail push?", but couldn't come to a definitive conclusion - the behavior doesn't seem to be "simple". With only WiFi turned on (even with a "never sleep" WiFi policy), I could observe rather long delays (> 20 min) between sending of e-mail and receipt of email on the handset. (I could do this without touching the handset by passively sniffing WiFi packets "off the air").
The handset does initiate a long-lived TCP connections to Google's servers, and if new mail comes in within five or ten minutes, it is apparent that it is the Google side of thing that starts talking on the idle (virtual) circuit. So, that's a kind of "push"; OTOH, it also looks like the Google servers will time out that virtual circuit (sends TCP reset) after 15-20 minutes.I don't have a way to trace things with WiFi turned off and Mobile Network on - the first thing event that seems to show up (with each new e-mail) in the ddms monitor is activity tagged with "GTalkService". This seems to happen more repeatedly - I only saw delays of 90 seconds or so when using the Mobile Network exclusively.
