Motorola Droid :: Can't Clean Little Spots On Screen - Wavy Keyboard
Nov 6, 2009
I have little spots on my screen. They aren't dead pixels and they can't be cleaned off. It looks like they are like little spots of residue left over from the screen protector that was on the phone when you buy it. But they don't come off. They're only noticeable when the background is white.
Second, the keyboard is wavy. It's like the rows of the keyboard go up and down, almost like the keyboard didn't fit well in the area it's supposed to go. So the spaces between the rows are lifting up a bit and creating a wavy keyboard. This isn't really much of an issue, but just curious if other people see this as well.

I got my first smart phone on 15 July, a Droid X. Everything was OK till last week when it died. I took the dead phone to VZ and they examined it and said there was moisture damage. Seems like there are some places on the phone that turn red when exposed to moisture. Bottom line was they are replacing the phone, but I had to buy a new battery and sign up for the $US4.95 a month insurance.
I do live in Florida and it can get hot and humid in the summer here. So my question is just how much do you have to baby a phone like the DX?
I thought I was careful with mine. Did not every carry it with me in the swimming pool. Kept in a nice silicon case to protect from bumps, and had another old HP calculator case that I often kept it in for more protection. Never had anything happen like dropping a Coke on the DX.
The lady at VZ was kind of a bozo, she even wanted to over charge me for the battery; but some guy in a suit came out of the back room and said I was a preferred customer and gave me a discount. When I asked about buying a different case that would protect my phone from water (I have seen OEM water proof cases advertised on the internet) she said that was not necessary.
Do other peeps have "moisture" issues with their phones, and if so how do you deal with them? Now that I know where the red spots show up if there is moisture damage I will probably start checking them. But if smart phones are so fragile that I have to baby them so they last more than three months I may have to review my decision to buy one.

so i got an HTC One X and first thing i bout for it was an invisible shield screen protector, so applied the screen protector and after letting it dry i turned my phone on and it seemed to go well but when i go on a white page i can see black streaks and on the bottom there is a big blue strip which i believe is water. The phone however works perfectly fine and i cant see the spots unless im on a white page but it is pretty bad so i was wondering what should i do to get rid of the streaks?

Dont get me wrong, the QWERTY keyboard is sick, and I love it. But after typing on the keyboard for while, I wanted to switch it up, so I tried the on screen key pad. And to my surprise, the on screen keyboard appears to be much quicker than using the QWERTY!

They function key has a few weird stains on it that look like dirt or coffee stains. Those were there when I first got the phone. Is there any method to clean it without messing up the phone? If it involves buying some sort of cleaning solution, please suggest something I will use for other purposes other than this one issue.

I just got my droid and I noticed that the gap between the keyboard the screen when the phone is closed is slightly more on the bottom left corner than on the other corners. When pushed down I can make the gap go away.

I have used blackberries forf the past 6 years and I really miss the ability to just type in a number right away or even just type part of someones name to make a call. Having to open the phone app, then go to contacts, then either scroll through the list or press search and THEN type a name is just PAINFUL. We're talking minimum 4 actions to accomplish what I used to be able to do at any time immediately. It seems to me that a keyboard widget on my home screen would be able to address this issue.

I know there are many talks of multi-touch on the Droid, and I don't doubt it's existence but does anyone else notice that the touch screen keyboard is really slow? For example, I'll try to type something really fast and it'll only catch about 60% of what I type, which makes everything gibberish. It can't keep up. Not that I type extremely fast or anything. I can also see the keys I press popping up to let me know what letter I'm pressing but it still doesn't read it at times.

I tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.

I use my SD card often and like to keep movies in Movies folder, music in Music folder..etc..basically keep my data nicely organized for consumption later with approriate programs. But when I look in the SD card in windows, there are dozens of app created folders. Is there a way to make android create a Program Files like directory like windows so all app data can go into it?

When I started playing with my new Droid (4409) I saw that it had the same auto-focus issues that everyone else complained about.Setting the unit to action made it focus at infinity, so somewhat better but I couldn't get shopsavy to recognize any barcodes.I cleaned the lens even though it didn't seem dirty and now Shopsavy locks onto bar codes and the unit seems to Auto-focus with just about 100% lock (green corners).Could some of the problems people are having just be be caused by lens placement and skin oils?

I want to clean my SD card with applications on it, but it's not obvious where those apps reside. I understand they may be encrypted, which is fine. I have no intention of copying or trading them. I just would like to know what NOT to delete so that I don't mistakenly erase them from my card.

I'll be getting a Droid about the middle of next week. Most my Google contacts don't have phone numbers attached, just e-mail addresses. I also have a Google Voice account and number and plan on using it for most of my phone traffic (which really isn't all that much). About a dozen of my contacts are in there now with their e-mails and phone numbers.
Most my e-mail contacts (a couple hundred) aren't divided into groups right now.
Do I need to clean up my contacts before getting the Droid and syncing things up? Any tips for doing so if needed? I don't want to mess up my Droid right off the bat if there are some things I go do in advance to make getting up and running smoother.

I'm sure there is no easy answer to this question.. but is there a way to remove the "HTC"-type settings in the CM-based ROMS(Koush/JRummy remix/ UD 10, etc.)? By these settings I mean the Trackball/Breathing light and similar. These ROMS would seem overall more Droid-oriented without these settings that are basically useless to us Deleting the HTC Copyright .apk seems easy enough..

how does the keyboard on screen compare with the eris? i been looking at so many reviews and some claim they are either EQUAL or LESS THAN the eris'.they say the eris has more seperation between the buttons for less mess ups and more of a push button feel.reason is - if i get a droid, i want to be able to type mostly on the virtual keyboard and not mess with the slider unless it serves the most practical.so far with the eris im amazed at the keyboard on screen, used to HATE typing on screen but now i love it.
