View 17 RepliesI bought one of the $4 batteries from Amazon. I dropped the Droid from several low levels at several angles and it never rebooted. Clearly the original battery was just slightly smaller dimensionally to allow a brief but significant loss of contact with the Droid. Verizon did send me a "refurb" but I send it back with a note that it was unacceptable to send a phone which at one time had someone else's problems in it as a replacement. I'm so very glad I did.

View 29 Replies View RelatedI have used blackberries forf the past 6 years and I really miss the ability to just type in a number right away or even just type part of someones name to make a call. Having to open the phone app, then go to contacts, then either scroll through the list or press search and THEN type a name is just PAINFUL. We're talking minimum 4 actions to accomplish what I used to be able to do at any time immediately. It seems to me that a keyboard widget on my home screen would be able to address this issue.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI know there are many talks of multi-touch on the Droid, and I don't doubt it's existence but does anyone else notice that the touch screen keyboard is really slow? For example, I'll try to type something really fast and it'll only catch about 60% of what I type, which makes everything gibberish. It can't keep up. Not that I type extremely fast or anything. I can also see the keys I press popping up to let me know what letter I'm pressing but it still doesn't read it at times.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to lock the screen just by closing up the keyboard on the droid? instead of pressing the button on top? maybe an app or very how-to detailed command line?

Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.
I have little spots on my screen. They aren't dead pixels and they can't be cleaned off. It looks like they are like little spots of residue left over from the screen protector that was on the phone when you buy it. But they don't come off. They're only noticeable when the background is white.
Second, the keyboard is wavy. It's like the rows of the keyboard go up and down, almost like the keyboard didn't fit well in the area it's supposed to go. So the spaces between the rows are lifting up a bit and creating a wavy keyboard. This isn't really much of an issue, but just curious if other people see this as well.
Really bothers me when I'm playing Snesoid and the keys keep going dark if I'm going through text or reading menus or something. Any way to get the keyboard illumination to stay on?

View 1 Replies View Relatedhow does the keyboard on screen compare with the eris? i been looking at so many reviews and some claim they are either EQUAL or LESS THAN the eris'.they say the eris has more seperation between the buttons for less mess ups and more of a push button feel.reason is - if i get a droid, i want to be able to type mostly on the virtual keyboard and not mess with the slider unless it serves the most practical.so far with the eris im amazed at the keyboard on screen, used to HATE typing on screen but now i love it.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this is normal or not, but my phone slows down for a good 5-10 seconds after I download/install an app. It's virtually unusable for that time - it happens every time I download one.usually when the notification bar alerts me that it's finished downloading or installing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo through a weird assortment of events i managed to crack the screen on my Eris. But this is the trippy part, I didnt break the glass but the touch sensors underneath. So now i am unable to use the menu or home buttons and the entire left part of my screen and more. I am unable to unlock my device in anyway that i know(menu button, the slider). Is there any other way to unlock it? I now have 11 unread texts and 4 voicemails that I desperately want to view. Oh and I know some of you won't be happy about what I'm about to say but.... I took the leap to the moto droid. I had the chance to get it on a 1 year because I didnt get insurance and I went for it. I will really miss my Eris but the keyboard lag was just killing me.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAnyone else noticing some strange behavior on the market lately? Most notably, I've been seeing fairly significant swings in the active install count (on the order of 3 points in a single day) which has been highly unusual for my app so far. Also downloads have been way down over the past few days. Is it possible that people don't love me as much as I think they do? Or is there another market bug similar to the one that cost me 8 percentage points in active installs last time that never got corrected?
View 3 Replies View RelatedNow, when it comes to the official Android Facebook application I've been using it on my Nexus 5 and my previous Galaxy S2. I use to always try and remember to place it in the background to minimise battery drain (I know this isn't perfect, but it did make a difference battery wise, because if I leave it in the foreground, the battery would drain).
Recently I've been running a number of tests and I have identified whenever I receive a Facebook notification, battery drain dramatically increases (e.g. over 10% in an hour with no use (sitting idle (black screen) and locked). If I don't get Facebook notifications, then the battery life is solid and last for ages.
So I tried: Disabling all Facebook notifications. I've then tested a number of times... I get a friend to send me a Facebook private message (they then SMS me to let me know when they send the Facebook message). My phone does NOT generate a Facebook notification message, BUT I notice the dramatic battery drain kicks in as described above (phone gets very warm as well) when they send the Facebook notification.
* I then tried ending the Facebook task. This does nothing. The dramatic battery drain pattern continues.
* If I turn the phone on and off, it stops the battery drain.
* I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Facebook. No difference, problem still occurs.
* I'm using the latest Facebook application as at 30/01/14.
I know the advice is to uninstall Facebook, but I know I could also install Greenify, but I don't want to root my phone (yet) (and the non-rooted feature is something you need to remember to do - knowing me I will forget to force stop)).
There was something similar on Facebook Messenger (which I don't have installed) (I just found a battery-draining bug in the Facebook Messenger standalone app, and how to report it at Facebook who can fix it. : Android)
Is it worth buying BK over using the API from Sense UI? As a side note, can anyone direct me on how to get the API and install it? I am a relative newbie to Android.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am new in Android and i am working to make an on-screen keyboard which can be visitable via arrow(direction) keys of my external keyboard. I mean i wanna move left, right, up and down in the on-screen keyboard's UI (keys) with pressing arrow keys from my external(hardware) keyboard. The key that cursor is on should be focused, when i press an arrow key from my external keyboard the focused key should change and when i press "enter" from my external keyboard it should be operated.(written to the screen etc.) How can i make this? Is there any idea? How can i make virtual keyboard's keys visitable? It doesn't look like moving around a matrix of buttons.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen outside or in the car, the landscape brightness of my Eris is rather dim making viewing difficult but when I switch back to the portrait view the screen is of normal brightness. Inside, switching from portrait to landscape viewing is not an issue. This was happening while on 1.5 as well. I have looked and played around with settings but can not seem to find a solution. Any suggestions?Another quirk, that arose with 2.1, is the keyboard. It seems to easily go to all caps, numbers, or exits with the slightest variance off of the A, M or the space key. My daughter's Eris is having the same issue with the keyboard. Any suggestions for a better keyboard?Eris is my first smart phone and I am loving the experience.

I have BetterKeyboard, but its phonepad keyboard isn't T9. the HTC Touch Keyboard sucks because it doesn't fit the screen correctly. EvenBetter keyboard isn't that great overall. TouchPal is by FAR the best I've used, but version 1.0.0 doesn't have configuration options and landscape doesn't fit screen width. View 12 Replies View RelatedSwype on the Droid X with 2.1 originally had a black keyboard with bigger keys to swype or type on. With Froyo, it's now showing as a white keyboard with smaller keys that looks look the Swype keyboard I had originally had on my Droid 1. Is this the "new" keyboard look for Swype on the Droid X or is there a way to bring back the old look before upgrading to Froyo on the Droid X? The version that is showing on the DX now is 1.64.40.9380.
