Motorola Droid :: Need Typing Speed Tester App For On Screen Keyboard
Jan 25, 2010
Is there an app for testing typing speed using the on screen keyboard? I have one for the physical keyboard (txtspeed) and I am a pathetic 12WPM, but wonder what I get on the on screen one.

This was asked in the Droid forum, but I suppose people without physical kb don't go there so I might ask this here as well.. Does anyone know an app which lets you test your typing speed with the on screen keyboard?

So is there an easy way to type the word "I'll". I have to upper case the letters then type "I", then switch to the symbols and type ', then back to the letters to type "ll". This just seems way to much for a little word. My BB Tour would recognize so much easier. If there is no easy way to type it, wonder if Froyo will fix it.

thinkbroadband.com have made available an android speed tester. I always thought my mobile broadband speeds were bad: now I have confirmation. Both upload and download were 0.02mbps. (My wifi speed was, as I expected, my normal 9mbps.) Mobile broadband is really poor - hardly usable.

Sorry if this has already been said, but while I was typing on the keyboard I noticed something cool. If you type a text or sentence and you look back and notice that a word you tried to type got switched to a different word because of a missed key or just because of the predictive text, instead of moving the cursor back and erasing, you can just click on that word. This brings up the original suggestions along with what you actually typed even if you've moved past this word. Maybe the original Droid had this? I came from an HTC Droid Eris.

I have a Milestone (Droid) which I think is excellent, but I'm struggling with the hard keyboard - I haven't found a way of holding the handset comfortably while using the keyboard efficiently.

I've done this several times with the W key on the keyboard. When I'm typing really fast and drag my fingers to type "saw" for example with just my left thumb I'll catch the bottom left of the W key while the A is pressed down and it'll lift up and make a popping noise. I'm worried eventually I'll snap the W off the keyboard.

I have searched google and this forum and have not seen the same problem. When texting using my physical keyboard the phone inserts spaces or @ signs after letters that I type that are not the word I meant to spell. Sometimes what results is not even a word. I tried disabling the auto completion feature but it still happens. Has anyone else seen this and is there a fix?

Can anyone recommend a good, portable bluetooth keyboard to use with Droid? Quite often I do need to be able to send considerably long messages via Droid and to me there's nothing as fast as a real keyboard, where you can use all ten fingers.

Looking for a virtual keyboard that doesn't cover up the original screen when you are typing. I.E. if I'm typing something into a Google search box, I want to see the letters appearing in the search box, not some other box that I then have to send to the original application. Ideally it would also have a tab key on the main keyboard. Anything like this exist?

I've recently published a new release of my compass "DGT Compass" but unfortunately. I'm receiving some negative feedback from Droid owners. Not very useful those feedbacks just saying "it doesn't work on Droid!". I would appreciate more details from some Droid tester.

Dont get me wrong, the QWERTY keyboard is sick, and I love it. But after typing on the keyboard for while, I wanted to switch it up, so I tried the on screen key pad. And to my surprise, the on screen keyboard appears to be much quicker than using the QWERTY!

I've heard that people say that the Droid feels "Snappier" when navigating the home screen and such. I use Dxtop and was wondering if that same benefit will be noticed on there or will I have to return back to the default home to get the speed boost? Any info would be great!

Is it common that the default keyboard and input method is a bit slow and lags pretty heavy behind typing? It seems like the Eris can't keep up w my typing and it causes delays and issues when typing messages, etc. Not sure if its the hepatic feedback or the correcting, but its frustrating at times. Apart from that, I like the keyboard and the predictive text works well.

I text. A lot. It's very irritating when the keyboard on the Eris can't keep up with how fast I type. I'll be finished with my message, and the last few words take 1-3 seconds to show up, which is fine I suppose. However, when I make some errors, the auto-correct feature doesn't work because apparently my typing speed is too quick for it.
Everything works fine when I type slowly, but that's annoying too.
I barely have any apps besides the stock ones. In running services I only have the calendar, Google Voice, Touch Input, and BatteryTime running. I don't use any app killer, I have animations and haptic feedback turned off. I don't know what else I can do to speed this phone up.
This problem, the lag in switching from portrait to landscape, and the lag with calls is really making me want to sell my Eris and purchase the Incredible, or I may wait until the "Moto Droid X" releases in July....or is that just a rumor?

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that they're message typing skills have gone down with 2.1? I seem to get way more typos.
I seem to have noticed that the touchscreen accuracy has reduced with this build, so I think that's part of it, but I'm also wondering if the typing prediction isn't as good as 1.5 was? I just typing doong, meaning to get doing, but it didn't change it. In fact, of the options it did give me for that, "doing" wasn't one of them.
Is it just me being critical knowing it's a beta build, or is anyone else noticing these?
And I've already recalibrated the keyboard and the g-force.

Just wondering if there is anyway to set my phone in such a way that my ring tone will turn off when I open the phone (either unlock/ do anything to the phone). As it is right now my ring tone (a full mp3 song imported from my pc) will play until I drag down my notification bar. I'm using tone picker and handcent sms if it makes any difference.
Also, is there a way to edit the the keyboard input sound when typing with the stock keyboard?

I just got handcent and I love the messaging...but I am trying to find out how to keep the keyboard on the screen instead of always having to click to bring it up to send a message. I hate having to press the screen after each message I send...is there a way to lock the keyboard on the screen?

I have used blackberries forf the past 6 years and I really miss the ability to just type in a number right away or even just type part of someones name to make a call. Having to open the phone app, then go to contacts, then either scroll through the list or press search and THEN type a name is just PAINFUL. We're talking minimum 4 actions to accomplish what I used to be able to do at any time immediately. It seems to me that a keyboard widget on my home screen would be able to address this issue.

I know there are many talks of multi-touch on the Droid, and I don't doubt it's existence but does anyone else notice that the touch screen keyboard is really slow? For example, I'll try to type something really fast and it'll only catch about 60% of what I type, which makes everything gibberish. It can't keep up. Not that I type extremely fast or anything. I can also see the keys I press popping up to let me know what letter I'm pressing but it still doesn't read it at times.

I have a Huawei Honor U8860, which is rooted and running Miui 3.1.11. I experience an annoying problem with the keyboard. Here is what happens.
Any time I am entering text, whether i'm texting, facebooking, emailing, navigating, googling, etc, the standard android keyboard disappears while i'm typing. It's very random and not consistent. Sometimes I can type normal and sometimes only 10secs before it happens. Then I'll have to wait to get the keyboard reappear. After the keyboard reappears it may stay up for 10 sec before it disappear again.
I have tried installing Touchpal Keyboard. It works fine in the beginning, but after a while the problem come back and the keyboard disappears.
