Is there a way to lock the screen just by closing up the keyboard on the droid? instead of pressing the button on top? maybe an app or very how-to detailed command line?

From a black screen, sitting on my desk, or bed...the screen would magically turn on. And not always to the lock screen. Sometimes would just turn on and be unlocked (I don't have it password locked, so it would open to the desk top without having to swipe) And if left alone, it will go to dark after 1 minute. It has cycled through this on/off 3 or 4 times, all without me touching the phone at all.If I power it down, it appears to solve this until.I don't know what, but eventually it will go through this routine again.

But recently, my screen will turn on (it will display the 'lock' screen) all by itself. It's draining the hell out of my battery; I'm down to 80% after 2 hours, just due to the screen turning on while it's in my holster. Not cool at all.I've noticed this only happens at certain times at work. It hasn't happened to me at home yet, and I don't notice it while It's just sitting on my desk at work. I mainly notice it when I take it out before or after I take a break (leaving my desk to go out for a smoke, or whatever). So here's what I think it is.On my work laptop (Ubuntu 9.10), I'm running BlueProximity, which probes a paired Bluetooth device (my Droid, in this case) and locks my laptop if it's not within a certain range. It *seems* (not 100% sure) that when I leave and re-enter the maximum range of my laptop's BT receiver i.e., breaking and then re-establishing the connection -- that the Droid's screen turns on.Again, I'm pretty sure it's the 2.1 update that caused this to start happening. It only started happening within the last week. I suppose it could be an app, but that seems unlikely. Has anyone else seen a problem like this? Anyone have any ideas for resolving? Is there any info I can provide that would be helpful in pinning down the problem?
View 5 Replies View RelatedDont get me wrong, the QWERTY keyboard is sick, and I love it. But after typing on the keyboard for while, I wanted to switch it up, so I tried the on screen key pad. And to my surprise, the on screen keyboard appears to be much quicker than using the QWERTY!
View 15 Replies View RelatedThis is weird and took me a while to pinpoint exactly when this happens. When I am done using my phone I usually hit the home button to get to my home screen, regardless of what app or what screen I'm on. Then I press the power button at the top top turn off the screen. Almost everyday with what I thought was no clear pattern, my phone would reboot just after setting it down when I was done using it. I found that when pressing power too quickly after pressing home when the app hasn't fully gone away yet causes the phone to reboot. I have been able to consistently do this today from the gallery, not just at a specific picture but when viewing the list of my phone pictures. Over half a dozen times just now, every time, home then power and it reboots. I uninstalled OpenHome thinking it was related to the custom home app, but even with the default home it is still happening.Gallery is not the main problem, it has happened from other apps, but that one I have been able to most consistenly reproduce it because it takes longer for that to close before getting to the home screen (I only have 52 pictures, so I can't imagine that is the reason). I am about to go to a verizon store and see if I can reproduce it on the phones on display.
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust a neat trick, but not sure how useful it really is.If you want to lock the screen without turning the phone backlight off, you can do so by placing a finger on any of the four "touch-sensitive" buttons and pressing the power key.The screen will stay on, but the device will lock.It's up to you to find a practical purpose for doing so.I just though I'd share the feature (bug?) with you all.

View 49 Replies View RelatedHas anyone noticed that if you uncheck the box to enable the lock screen that the Droid X's screen will turn on for incoming text messages? It's rather annoying as I would rather not use a lock screen but don't want the screen turning on for every new text either. Screen stays off fine if the lock screen is enabled. This is my first Android phone so not sure if this is how Android behaves or if it's a Droid X issue.

View 29 Replies View RelatedI have used blackberries forf the past 6 years and I really miss the ability to just type in a number right away or even just type part of someones name to make a call. Having to open the phone app, then go to contacts, then either scroll through the list or press search and THEN type a name is just PAINFUL. We're talking minimum 4 actions to accomplish what I used to be able to do at any time immediately. It seems to me that a keyboard widget on my home screen would be able to address this issue.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI know there are many talks of multi-touch on the Droid, and I don't doubt it's existence but does anyone else notice that the touch screen keyboard is really slow?For example, I'll try to type something really fast and it'll only catch about 60% of what I type, which makes everything gibberish. It can't keep up. Not that I type extremely fast or anything. I can also see the keys I press popping up to let me know what letter I'm pressing but it still doesn't read it at times.

Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

- Added option to disable notification icon

Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.
I have little spots on my screen. They aren't dead pixels and they can't be cleaned off. It looks like they are like little spots of residue left over from the screen protector that was on the phone when you buy it. But they don't come off. They're only noticeable when the background is white.
Second, the keyboard is wavy. It's like the rows of the keyboard go up and down, almost like the keyboard didn't fit well in the area it's supposed to go. So the spaces between the rows are lifting up a bit and creating a wavy keyboard. This isn't really much of an issue, but just curious if other people see this as well.
Really bothers me when I'm playing Snesoid and the keys keep going dark if I'm going through text or reading menus or something. Any way to get the keyboard illumination to stay on?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've searched the internet/XDA far and wide for an answer but can't seem to find a solution that fits my exact issue. I'm trying to mod my android keyboard to have red text color instead of white. I decompiled LatinIME.apk and edited styles.xml found in the Values folder. I only changed TWO lines which contain the hex color code for white- "#ffffffff". I changed them to the corresponding hex code for red which looks like #fff44444. I recompiled using ApkMultiTool. I deleted the resources file using the keep folder method and everything compiles fine. I then pushed the app to system/app making the correct adjustments to the permissions. I reboot the phone and keep getting the error message of, "unfortunately, Android Keyboard has stopped." When I go into my sms app and try to open the keyboard to send a text the message pops up again, however in the background my keyboard pops up and it DOES have the red text color I was looking for. So my modifications worked but I can't get the apk to run correctly. The ONLY file I made any modifications to was styles.xml.
I tried to wipe data for the android keyboard as well as my user dictionary but to no avail. I'm using a t-mobile G2X running Eaglesblood 4.0.4 AOSP.
how does the keyboard on screen compare with the eris? i been looking at so many reviews and some claim they are either EQUAL or LESS THAN the eris'.they say the eris has more seperation between the buttons for less mess ups and more of a push button feel.reason is - if i get a droid, i want to be able to type mostly on the virtual keyboard and not mess with the slider unless it serves the most practical.so far with the eris im amazed at the keyboard on screen, used to HATE typing on screen but now i love it.

My Eris has been working fine with the screen timeout. It is set to go off at 1 minute. But since last night, it's only dimming the screen now. It will not turn off unless I press the end call button. It hasn't been doing that, so I'm not sure what's going on.
