I have been playing with this apparently and I hooked my phone to Xbox live too see how it would work. Even though it gives a strict Nat type it works well. using the setting in barnacle is there a way to make the Nat type open?

I can't get Barnacle to work with my rooted droid or any other WiFi app for that matter. I have kernal 2.6.32.9-g874c292 android-build@apa26#1
I have tried it with and without Skip wpa_supplicant
I have tried it with and without USB debugging
I have tried regular barnacle and Barnacle legacy
I have turned it on, waited 1,5,10 and 60 minutes and pushed associate
No matter what I do I can't get it to broadcast. Any help would be appreciated. If someone else has barnacle running please tell me the settings and steps you used to get it running.
I have a rooted Motorola Droid running the Barnacle WiFi tether app which has been working great. The problem I am having is trying to use a VPN connection over the Barnacle Wifi. Is this even possible ? Or maybe possible with a different wifi tethering app? I have tried connecting to my VPN first with the Droid and then turning on the Barnacle Wifi Tether which doesnt work. Then I have tried starting up the Wifi Tether and then trying to connect the VPN from the Droid and also tried connecting to the VPN using my iPad connected to the barnacle wifi, with no luck.

Looks like a very neat (and free!) app. Requires root access, but that's not a huge deal. Barnacle Wifi Tether - Easiest Tethering for Motorola Droid. Barnacle Wifi Tether - Android app on AppBrain. Might be a good thing to try out.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI really want a free wifi tether, from what I have read barnacle is very good, and keeps AT&T from seeing that I'm tethering. Here is my journey thus far:
1. search barnacle on app market: no results
2. download double twist, search for barnacle, find it, scan the barcode. It recognizes it as barnacle. Sweet. I press the button to continue to app market, market opens, says "can't download that" or "error" or something.
3. Find the barnacle apk. online, download it to my computer, connect my captivate to my computer, throw the apk. file onto the captivate. Sweet! Now I have the apk. file on my phone at long last................
After not being able to get "android wifi tether" to work with my iPad, I downloaded Barnacle from the market and it is working flawlessly. Didn't see many threads mentioning this app for root users. It looks pretty robust and pulling about 2gbs and 400kb up. Will update post with any problems or other remarks. Anyone else using this?

View 36 Replies View RelatedAs the title, I downloaded barnacle about 2 weeks ago and could not get it working on my phone then visited the makers site on my laptop. Found a link on there to the settings needed to make it work on the X10 and here it is: Set LAN to athwlan0 Thats it! So if your rooted you can turn your X10 into a wifi hotspot and run what you want on it! 2 laptops and a PS3/Xbox? no problems. Let your poor friend who needs to use wifi to go online with their phone? No problem.
Apparently you can even let an ipad go online via the app and it is bloody fast I use a dongle for internet and although its on the same network as my phone the phone is lightening quick at sending data! Once connected it will show up as your only connected to a local network but it runs via an adhoc network so will only show a local connection. There are a few other minor connection details but you should find the answer with playing with it or just post on here and I will try to help.
Alright so, I've recently rooted my phone and I installed terminal emulated, I have superuser permissions and I'm semi-familiar with both. I got an app called Barnacle Wifi Tether and when I try to run the app, it says permission denied and it doesn't ask for superuser permission. When I go into terminal emulator and type in su it says permission denied.I forget the code to manually give SU to something like Barnacle...I'm tech savvy but not Droid savvy yet so be gentle!

When i try to search for barnacle wifi tether in the marketplace nothing shows up? Also internet nor marketplace work without wifi, texting does though. There is no 3G or Edge symbols beside my bars either.

Froyo Overclocked Kernels includes *wifi* fix is where I got my kernel. I've been overclocking to 1200 GHz.

I just rooted my evo 4g so I can tether to my iPad aim using. Barnacle used to work on this laptop .. but I was running windows 7 Pro and Velocity V2.I am now running Windows XP Pro and Velocity V3 with the GNM Turbo 4 with kernel.In case it matters,the laptop is an HP EliteBook 8440p.I've been working on this issue for about 8 hours.on and off.
I don't understand the difference. It seems a lot of people are trying to get Wireless tether to work on the ally but I don't understand. Barnacle works just fine. Is there some sort of difference?

I stay connected to the barnacle wifi signal but no Internet, in the barnacle app I get connection errors, I just need to stop the service and restart for the problem to be fixed, this only happens when the screen turns off so now I have the screen always on when tethering but that is not good form the battery.I have auto killer installed, I tought that it was the problem, and that auto killer was turning off the service but I uninstalled auto killer and problem persists, I have no other task manager installed.

Does it make the internet faster when wiFi is enabled?
Is it using MORE or less battery power to be left in WiFi connectivity mode? (maybe it uses less battery when surfing the net, but if Im not surfing the net wifi should be off so that both 3G and Wifi are not both draining?)
Is there a way to set my phone to automatically connect to certain WiFi networks when the phone recognizes they are available? (i.e., my home wireless network as oppossed to just getting alerts on EVERY available network?)

This puts a huge drain on my battery. I'd prefer to have the OPTION to connect to wifi if/when i want to and to use the 3G network otherwise. Any idea how I can address this issue?
