Motorola Droid :: Barnacle WiFi Not Working
Nov 22, 2010
I can't get Barnacle to work with my rooted droid or any other WiFi app for that matter. I have kernal 2.6.32.9-g874c292 android-build@apa26#1
I have tried it with and without Skip wpa_supplicant
I have tried it with and without USB debugging
I have tried regular barnacle and Barnacle legacy
I have turned it on, waited 1,5,10 and 60 minutes and pushed associate
No matter what I do I can't get it to broadcast. Any help would be appreciated. If someone else has barnacle running please tell me the settings and steps you used to get it running.

I have been playing with this apparently and I hooked my phone to Xbox live too see how it would work. Even though it gives a strict Nat type it works well. using the setting in barnacle is there a way to make the Nat type open?

I have a rooted Motorola Droid running the Barnacle WiFi tether app which has been working great. The problem I am having is trying to use a VPN connection over the Barnacle Wifi. Is this even possible ? Or maybe possible with a different wifi tethering app? I have tried connecting to my VPN first with the Droid and then turning on the Barnacle Wifi Tether which doesnt work. Then I have tried starting up the Wifi Tether and then trying to connect the VPN from the Droid and also tried connecting to the VPN using my iPad connected to the barnacle wifi, with no luck.

Can anyone else get barnacle to work after updating to 2.2? My computer was connecting fine before. It sees the barnacle in wireless network list but says it cannot connect to the wireless network. I already uninstalled barnacle and dl'ed again, but that didn't fix it.

So I decided to actually try out Barnacle today, as I've had it installed for a couple days now. Set my options, started it, and connected with an older Acer laptop that a co-worker had at the office. Here are the speeds I got from the local San Diego, CA speedtest.net server...
5.13Mb down
1.37Mb up
Wow...that's phenominal for a mobile device!

Looks like a very neat (and free!) app. Requires root access, but that's not a huge deal. Barnacle Wifi Tether - Easiest Tethering for Motorola Droid. Barnacle Wifi Tether - Android app on AppBrain. Might be a good thing to try out.

When I start Barnacle all I get is
"Please wait while windows connects to the Barnacle network. Waiting for the network"
Barnacle used to work on this laptop .. but I was running windows 7 Pro and Velocity V2.I am now running Windows XP Pro and Velocity V3 with the GNM Turbo 4 with kernel. In case it matters, the laptop is an HP EliteBook 8440p.I've been working on this issue for about 8 hours.on and off.

I really want a free wifi tether, from what I have read barnacle is very good, and keeps AT&T from seeing that I'm tethering. Here is my journey thus far:
1. search barnacle on app market: no results
2. download double twist, search for barnacle, find it, scan the barcode. It recognizes it as barnacle. Sweet. I press the button to continue to app market, market opens, says "can't download that" or "error" or something.
3. Find the barnacle apk. online, download it to my computer, connect my captivate to my computer, throw the apk. file onto the captivate. Sweet! Now I have the apk. file on my phone at long last................

After not being able to get "android wifi tether" to work with my iPad, I downloaded Barnacle from the market and it is working flawlessly. Didn't see many threads mentioning this app for root users. It looks pretty robust and pulling about 2gbs and 400kb up. Will update post with any problems or other remarks. Anyone else using this?

As per requests I have started a new thread. I would like a few people to test it out and see if they can get it working. I have been using it for a few weeks now and has worked perfectly on various Wireless devices that can connect to AD-Hoc Networks. Here are the steps that I followed: Code:

As the title, I downloaded barnacle about 2 weeks ago and could not get it working on my phone then visited the makers site on my laptop. Found a link on there to the settings needed to make it work on the X10 and here it is: Set LAN to athwlan0 Thats it! So if your rooted you can turn your X10 into a wifi hotspot and run what you want on it! 2 laptops and a PS3/Xbox? no problems. Let your poor friend who needs to use wifi to go online with their phone? No problem.
Apparently you can even let an ipad go online via the app and it is bloody fast I use a dongle for internet and although its on the same network as my phone the phone is lightening quick at sending data! Once connected it will show up as your only connected to a local network but it runs via an adhoc network so will only show a local connection. There are a few other minor connection details but you should find the answer with playing with it or just post on here and I will try to help.

Alright so, I've recently rooted my phone and I installed terminal emulated, I have superuser permissions and I'm semi-familiar with both. I got an app called Barnacle Wifi Tether and when I try to run the app, it says permission denied and it doesn't ask for superuser permission. When I go into terminal emulator and type in su it says permission denied.I forget the code to manually give SU to something like Barnacle...I'm tech savvy but not Droid savvy yet so be gentle!

I'm experiencing a weird problem with my wi-fi. I usually piggy back off the wifi at the mcdonalds where I work, but today the wifi isn't letting me do anything. I can't even get to the splash screen to say I agree to the TOS in order to to agree to use it. I've tried everything. My droid says its a good signal and excellent connection... but I can't connect to it. I used my droid to surf the net a little at home before I left for work today, so I know it works, and a few people have come to the mcdonalds and used the wifi while I was here. So I know that works. Is there an app that can tell me what's going on or to test what the problem is?

As far as roms and all are concerned I've managed to get my droid rooted and working. I'm running LFY 1.7 with a P3droid 1000 kernel. My question is, I have tried barnacle, WiFi tether, and every other WiFi tethering app that anyone has suggested and they all start up and say that they are now running. My problem is that no other device will see this WiFi connection, and truthfully I don't believe it's really working. I have been told that slayher's kernels were very good for tethering but whenever I flash one of them, my phone starts, up and gets warm, then reboots. Keep in mind that I am running the kernels at the same speeds. If anyone has any input as to why my WiFi tethering is not working?

My first DX was a major lemon, and of course I've been following the troubleshooting posts on the forums and getting more worried by the minute. None of my calls went through with the first phone; it kept reverting to previous screen, and losing signal to a circle/slash. Please send good vibes towards Philadelphia that this phone is actually a workable one. Also, if anyone could chime in -- I've been a little burned and now want to make sure my battery life, 3G and wifi connections, updates etc. are ducks in a row. What are the very first things I should do? I won't overdo the apps at first, just take it easy.

Hey guys, I've checked out the other threads, but haven't found this problem. I've had my Droid for a few days now, and I'm loving it, but it seems to really be having problems with my wifi at home. Whenever I use it on my wireless here at home, it basically seems to make the wifi stop working on both the droid and my laptop. Everything works fine for awhile, usually until the droid goes to sleep, and then I can't get to the internet on my laptop, or the droid. The signal is still fine, but it doesn't go anywhere.

I had been using Barnacle with my Motorola Droid (upgraded to Froyo), and it connected to my iPad and laptop without any issues.Just tried it the other day, and I get a message stating "Baranacle requires 'su' to access the hardware! Please, make sure you have root access".The phone is obviously rooted (easy root), since I had been using Barnacle before.Any reason why it's not working now? what exactly IS 'su'?

This is news to me and I figured i would share it with my fellow Droiders. I just switched from the Eris to the Moto Droid. I figured switching would render my Eris usless because when starting up the Moto Droid, I had to go through an update orientation and had to connect the phone to a number before getting a chance to view the hoem screen. However, my Eris still works. I can not make phone calls, but I can still use it with the Wifi in my house and can play the music that is stored on the memory card. It is like an Eris Touch. I can also still get apps from the Market and update existing apps.

My Mobile Network isn't working. Period. No it's not location, I get 5 bars of 3g in my room all the time. I'm able to go on WiFi. My 3g just all of a sudden stopped connecting. It says: "Stand by for connecting to mobile network". Not to mention the incorrect grammar, but what the hell? This is the reason I bought a smart phone. It happened 10 hours after the update. In New York City, was working fine at work earlier. I can still get text's/calls.Anyone else have a similar problem?

My wi fi isn't working it has found our connection ever since I turned it on now it doesn't. I am sitting right next to the computer but it cannot find it. I uninstalled 360 camera because that is the last app I installed. It was working fine untill I did the update. Than it did a force close a couple of times. That was yesterday than when I turned my phone on this morning it can not find the connection and the letter icon that shows you have mail is not up in the left hand corner of the phone. I really don't want to do a factory reset if I can help it.
