Though I'd post the correct settings for users in the uk with hotmail addresses that want to configure POP3 on their Hero.
Incoming Settings
Email address = Your email Address
Username = Email address again
POP Server = pop3.live.com
Security type = SSL
Server Port = 995
Outgoing server Settings
tick login required
SMTP server = smtp.live.com
Security type = TLS
Server Port = 25
New user and new Droid owner here. As a previous BB Curve owner, I was pretty excited to drop the clunky BB OS in favor of a more user friendly device. I am trying to get my email set up on my Droid. I have my personal email through my webhost (Dreamhost.com) which allows us to have either IMAP or POP3 email access. I have attempted to set up each on my phone and still have similar issues.
1. Emails constantly show up dated 12/31/1969 - typically these are auto generated emails from eBay or CRON based emails from some applications I have developed. Is there an known issue with the way the OS reads auto-generated time stamps?
2. Multiple notifications received on same emails. Once again tied back to my additional POP3/IMAP account, but I receive the notification icon of new emails after I have read them - and even sometimes deleted them from my Droid.
3. Not so much an email issue, but a general question. Is there a way to "unlock" the phone other than sliding the screen up or pressing the top botton?
I am having some very annoying email problems that I have fought with for almost a week, researched and tried multiple programs, and followed about every tutorial on this and similar sites to make work. My school system's email provider is junk, but since I'm a traveling teacher (I bounce between schools) it is very important that I be able to receive and reply to emails from administrators and other teachers. I'm coming from five years of Blackberry email, where all it took was inputting my address and password in the BIS email page and never having to give it a second thought.
So far, here's a rundown on what's happened and what I've tried:
1. Using My Accounts and the stock email program, my email address has been added. It will not connect when set up as a POP3 account; I must set it as an IMAP account to retrieve any emails. No matter what port setting I use (25 or 587), I cannot send or reply to email.
2. Using K-9 email, I am able to download email as POP3 with standard settings (port 110). As with the built-in client, I am unable to reply to or send emails.
3. Before you ask, 587 never worked. I've tried.
4. The email address is configured in accordance with our service provider's instructions..
5. This issue has occurred in the same manner on both 2.1 and 2.2.
I was frustrated with our droids ability to use multiple pop3 email accounts at once. Sometime my emails would arrive hours after they were sent, which in business is unacceptable. Multiple pop3 accounts and gmail through activesync worked so smooth on my windows mobile Omnia i910. I am now trying to use mail fetcher integrated in gmail. I like it ok, and it's polling interval is getting shorter all the time (since google automatically calculates how often it should do it). I setup the pop3 accounts to get Labeled as the email account they come in on and auto Archive. I Archive the mail because I do not like a common inbox. Call me old school or whatever but I like to keep my buisness and pleasure separated. Here is my question:
My real question is now on my phone how can I automatically tell when a new email arrives from one of those other accounts (since it auto archives under it's label and hence doesn't show up in my inbox). If I can get this working my phone will be everything I always wanted.
I can't seem to find a good email set up on my Droid. When I got my droid I set up my email for POP3 since I have Yahoo Mail Plus. I do not want to use imap for many reasons. It set up no problem, put it constantly pulls old messages from the server or ones that I deleted off the phone (not the server) days earlier. So then, I switched to having gmail pull my yahoo mail via pop3. That solved the old message issues, but if anyone know about gmail, you can't set the frequency by which it pulls from the server. I would always get my email anywhere from 30 minutes to and hour and half after it was actually received. So today I tried the new imap set up. It works except I have a computer at home that's pulling the message via POP3. When it does that, it marks them as read on the server. Because of that I don't get notified of new messages. When the Droid syncs with yahoo, it shows that the message is already read.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI configured a couple of yahoo email accounts I have... got them setup no problem, did the manual setup, and selected IMAP... entered all the IMAP settings for incoming and outgoing servers... got it connected and receiving emails...
Problem is! NO PUSH? There's even an interval setting in the options, that asks how frequently to check, but NO PUSH...
I could have sworn when I had my first Nexus a few weeks back that my yahoo emails were getting push'ed but now I'm not so sure...
I just got my HTC Desire on Friday and I have been having trouble setting up the POP3/IMAP mail program. I have several email addresses and wanted to put them all on this but so far have only managed to get 1 to work.The address I got to work was a @hotmail.com address.

- Multiple exchange accounts
- IMAP/POP as well?
I can't even find an app that supports multiple exchange accounts and the apps that do support exchange (touchdown) don't support pop3/imap.
I thought I had it worked out...But need alittle help. I was receiving RR emails thru GMail on my Droid but now they are not coming thru...I do not have Weatherbug loaded..just got phone 2 days ago so only have Pandora and SportsTap loaded. Here is what I have done so far. I set up my GMail to use my RR email as well. I went to GMail Settings. I added RR as my POP3 email account..."POP Server" set to pop.roadrunner.com and Port set to 110. In the "Accounts and Imports"..."Send mail as" the RR is set to Default. Do I need to change any of the settings in the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" section of GMail Settings?

On the BB, there was an option to have both device and server inboxes sync'ed up, for read/unread and deleted emails... wondering if there's some setting to do this on the Android?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've seen various threads about IMAP settings to use for Yahoo email, but it wasn't clear from most of the posts I read whether it was referring to free Yahoo email or a Yahoo-based account associated with home high speed internet. Some gave parameters not using SSL encryption, and I know that would not work for me, but some used very similar setup to what I currently use on my Palm Pre (which uses an IMAP server with "palm" at the beginning of the name, so I don't know if there's a "secret handshake" between the Pre and the server that disallows access via other devices).
I have AT&T DSL (swbell domain email) and am strongly considering dumping my Pre for an EVO, but IMAP access to my swbell account is a must-have. I have a gmail account, but I'm pretty well-established with the swbell account, and don't want to deal with auto-forwarding. So has anyone successfully set up IMAP access to an AT&T/Yahoo email account? I tried using an IMAP server and parameters I found here through Windows Live Mail, but I keep getting some sort of certificate error claiming my system doesn't support something the server is expecting. I have tried in the past with Thunderbird as well using the palm IMAP server, and never succeeded with that either. So I'm a little hesitant to take the plunge until I have a high level of confidence it'll work. Plus I'm waiting for the Android version of HanDBase anyway, since I use that via Classic on my Pre. I don't mind buying an email client if the standard android client doesn't support it. I may do that anyway if there are better ones out there.
Pro's/cons of either setup via the HTC client? I currently have it set up using IMAP, but then I can't access email via WiFi. Yahoo doesn't support IMAP Idle, so it can't simulate push mail. Therefore you need to set a frequency for it to poll.
I was thinking of switching to SMTP so that I could use it at home via WiFi. I already have the IMAP poll frequency set to 1 hour, and could do the same with SMTP. Is there a good reason to stick with IMAP rather than SMTP?
As of 11/07, I began having problems with Yahoo Mail through IMAP setup on my DINC. I no longer receive any new messages. I've restarted the phone. Deleted the account and set it up again. Not sure what happened.

After the OTA I have discovered (to my frustration) that the email I have been deleting from my Eris is being permanently deleted from my Yahoo Plus account. I have searched here and all over trying to see if there is new settings or what but can't find anything to include the "don't delete from server" setting for the account.
With my other yahoo accounts (free) I didn't have the option to keep them on the server and accepted that as it was a struggle to get the free accounts up early on.
Keep the emails I delete from my phone on the server?
I have K-9 set to check mail every min. I see in the notification where it says "sending mail", but it does not check incoming mail. I have tested both the incoming and outgoing ports and they both pass. What do I have to do to get it to check my incoming mail? If I do a manual "check mail", then it receives it fine.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a Hotmail account and I downloaded the Hotmail app and set up my email. However, when I delete an email on the phone I would like it NOT to delete on the server. I have tried looking everywhere for this setting ("Never delete from server") on both the app and on the server itself with no luck. I noticed the native email app has this setting but I prefer to use the hotmail app. I have also tried K-9, and while I really like the UI it has not been reliable in delivering my hotmail (gmail gets delivered right away).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two pop3 email accounts set up on the Driod and I'm wondering if there is a way to set it so the last 30 days or so of emails are saved on the droid, even after dowloading them at home and deleting them from the server?Right now, the droid only shows email that is still sitting on the server. On the BB i had, it used to download a copy of all pop3 email to the device and the copy would stay there unless i manually deleted in on the BB.

Its not like theres even pictures or detail in the email. whats the problem? i hate buying the latest and greatest and discovering its not as good as years ago. even my gmail doesnt alert me half the time when i have mail. blackberry was alot slower but a million times faster with important mail.
View 22 Replies View RelatedI was under whelmed with the email client which handles POP3 (hotmail, yahoo, verizon, etc.) accounts, and was looking for an "Outlook Mobile" type client, coming from my Moto Q. The stock client just seems to limited, aside from having some issues. Looking around, I came across the K9 Mail client and found that it was available in the Android Market. Its only been installed for a few minutes but in checking the settings/features, its much more robust than the stock client. Many more check intervals, options to set default number of messages, delete from server on delete option. The only caveat on install stated that it may have issues with Hotmail (i.e. Plus or paid accounts may have connection issues) but my basic free Hotmail came thru fine.
Text is much easier to read with the white background, black text and 2 line info display. You can also manage identities, and has more features I don't understand, and probably wont use. With my check interval at 3 hours, I sent a test message from my comcast account (not involved with DROID) just now and got some certificate error message from the program (has its own mail folder for errors), when I performed a manual check/sync. I just ran it again and the message came through. I think it may have been SMTP setting issues, but they seem resolved. Based on the the interface and options alone, I think I'll work with this app.
I just set up my main email account, and made sure both the email addy an passowrd were right several times, yet it can't seem to connect.
Is there a better app?
just got the DROID and my biggest complaint right now is with the Mail application (not the Gmail one). I have it set up for IMAP for my home email, and I can not move messages from my inbox into another folder.Can you actually do that? If so I haven't been able to figure out how.If you can't, is there a different Mail application for Android that will let you do that?It seems like a common enough feature that you would think it would be there.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone recommend, use or just know of an email client other than K-9 for use with IMAP email. I use touchdown for my Exchange/Corporate account. I have been using K-9 for my email client, which is alright and gets the job down, but I am wanting more.
I have searched the MArket place but can' find any.
Basically I am having issues with my schools email account. I have it setup via an imap account. Everything works great over wifi. The problem however is once I switch over to 3g.
Once I switch to 3g I am still able to receive emails just fine the problem occurs when I try to send an email. Basically it just sits in the outbox and says connection error. I tried using K-9 to see if that would help but it's still a no go k-9 gives me an error message every time I try resend the email.
So is there some setting or something I am missing that could be causing this problem? Currently I just have my schools email forwarding to my gmail account which is ok but sucks when I go back to my desktop and emails I deleted are still there and unread.
What are the settings to get your mail from yahoo.com.. I know I have to change it to IMAP but what are the port and IMAP server for yahoo?
