I was frustrated with our droids ability to use multiple pop3 email accounts at once. Sometime my emails would arrive hours after they were sent, which in business is unacceptable. Multiple pop3 accounts and gmail through activesync worked so smooth on my windows mobile Omnia i910. I am now trying to use mail fetcher integrated in gmail. I like it ok, and it's polling interval is getting shorter all the time (since google automatically calculates how often it should do it). I setup the pop3 accounts to get Labeled as the email account they come in on and auto Archive. I Archive the mail because I do not like a common inbox. Call me old school or whatever but I like to keep my buisness and pleasure separated. Here is my question:
My real question is now on my phone how can I automatically tell when a new email arrives from one of those other accounts (since it auto archives under it's label and hence doesn't show up in my inbox). If I can get this working my phone will be everything I always wanted.

Is anyone else having issues with Hotmail at the moment? I can't get my phone to sync with my hotmail account all of a sudden, and I have literally done nothing to it since I got hotmail emails this morning. I looked on my account on my laptop and had 4 messages from various times throughout the day, and refreshing the mail didn't fix anything. I sent myself a test email and didn't receive it, so I don't know what the deal is.
Anyway, I'm sure it'll fix itself, but if someone else is having this problem I'd love to know if you've been able to fix it or not.
Edit: Soft reset didn't work, haven't tried hard reset because I have no idea why it would work when Gmail is working fine, phone is not rooted

At a sudden point my device battery settings are not working. I can still enter in the battery menu and see it, but I can't change anything. Can this be a side effect of rooting the device?

I have two pop3 email accounts set up on the Driod and I'm wondering if there is a way to set it so the last 30 days or so of emails are saved on the droid, even after dowloading them at home and deleting them from the server?Right now, the droid only shows email that is still sitting on the server. On the BB i had, it used to download a copy of all pop3 email to the device and the copy would stay there unless i manually deleted in on the BB.

I took my Hero to Sprint because I was having picture mail and sound issues. They told me to wait for the 2.1 update that is coming 4-9. If I believe this, I'd better unroot my phone. I have read about problems with unrooting. Does anyone have any reliable instructions as to how to put my hero back to factory settings?

I have a Hotmail account and I downloaded the Hotmail app and set up my email. However, when I delete an email on the phone I would like it NOT to delete on the server. I have tried looking everywhere for this setting ("Never delete from server") on both the app and on the server itself with no luck. I noticed the native email app has this setting but I prefer to use the hotmail app. I have also tried K-9, and while I really like the UI it has not been reliable in delivering my hotmail (gmail gets delivered right away).
how to find the proper setting? Or is there not a setting like this yet?I have a SGS2(HD LTE) running gingerbread.

I just go hero and I went to the Pop3 setting and started to insert my microsoft pop3 account setting in the fields as prompted. The password was not correct so it would not pull in my emails.I can't seem to find out how to go back into my pop3 settings since the HTC Hero email application will not let me view my previous settings to make changes. There must be a way, I am just not seeing it.Please help me with the correct procedure. It tells me to select my email account from the drop down screen in my created email account, so, I select the email address that it shows that I created.

Has anyone gotten their hotmail to work? I got it to work the first time using the POP3 and STMP method posted all over the net but then when I go to check again, I just get connection error. I tried setup again and I get the "ERR login allowed only every 15 minutes" message. I know I'm probably only one using hotmail these days but that's where most my contacts are.

Hotmail was setup on the phone and working fine. All of a sudden it keeps saying the username and password is incorrect when trying to verify settings. The username and password is correct. Cannot get to Hotmail using phone browser either, I just get a white screen.
I deleted the mail account and re-creatd it but it made no difference. I backed-up the phone contents, ran a repair, and restored the contents again and still no difference. Is it a known X8 issue or has something changed on the hotmail service?

I have had BlackBerry phones for a few years. Now switching to the Hero (love it by the way), I am trying to figure out if there is a way to filter the email that comes to my new phone. On BlackBerry, you could go to options, security and firewall. There you could choose to have email only come to your phone if was from someone in your contact list. Basically keeps all junk out.Is there anything similar to this on the Hero, or an app anyone knows of that can do this, or close? This is the main reason I quit using WinMo phones and went to BB.

I'm a proud new owner of the HTC Hero, I have a very specific interest in getting my email 'just so' on my Hero, and I made it work great. I think others may be in this situation so I made some detailed instructions that I thought I'd share in case it helps some people.
First off this is for those who (but not limited to):
1) Use Microsoft Outlook POP3 Mail
2) Want to keep that as your main mail source, but want to receive duplicates on the phone.
3) Want to be able to reply to a message from your phone and have it appear as if you wrote it from your computer.
4) Receive it as fast as possible
5) Conserve battery life
6) Want to use the HTC Mail widget to preview your messages and have a mail envelope icon in your notification bar.
7) Filter spam and other unnecessary messages from getting to your phone
The best way to set up email on an android phone:
Benefits:
- Email pushed to you, so its recieved quicker and preserves phone battery life. I went from about 8 hour battery life to about 27 hours.
- Combines addresses into one neat mail location
- Lets you reply as if you're replying from any of those addresses
- Filters spam and unwanted messages from getting to your phone
- Many mail options in android by setting it up this way. Ability to flag messages, sort messages, etc.
- Lets you view and quickly flip through or delete messages in a widget.
- Eliminates the "on behalf of" statement when sending through gmail.
How to set up:
- get gmail account
- set up gmail account to receive your mail account(s)... as many accounts as you may have.
- set up filters to filter spam, and any regular messages you dont want forwarded to your phone
- set up outgoing smtp servers instead of using gmail's. I use authsmtp.com. they are good and cheap. This will let you send your messages as if they were from your Outlook account and not send it saying from <your gmail address> on behalf of <your address>
- If you have troubles sending, you might want to set your smtp server's option to send as SSL, and do the same in Gmail...then they should talk nicely.
You probably have a bunch of other settings you want to set between Gmail and your Outlook as well. For example, you want to set your Outlook to leave the messages on the server, and then probably delete them after 2 days (so they don't build up eating up hard drive space). Then in Gmail, make sure that that too does not delete the messages from the server, so that if Gmail checks it first, it leaves it there for your main Outlook account to still get. Gmail is very powerful, as is Outlook so go through your settings to make sure they are all set up the way you want. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things you need to do, so take this guide as a starting point.
On your phone...
Menu->Settings->Data Syncronization->Google
- have auto-sync turned off, & background data turned on (for other apps that likely need it)
- shut off gmail syncronization from the settings menu.
- set up microsoft exchange activesync with gmail:
the whole point of doing this instead of just using the gmail app is to do two things:
1) let us use HTC's nice mail widget to preview and flip through messages, and
2) to have an envelope indicating we have new mail up in the notification bar instead of an @ sign that the Gmail App shows.
Also, if you just set it up as POP3 mail (which you could do to achieve the same thing) the mail notifications will be much slower, and it will eat up your battery life. The Exchange ActiveSync will preserve battery life and push mail to you like the Gmail app does. So again the point here is so you can use the HTC Mail Widget (2 points above)
So to set up ActiveSync with Gmail:
email address (all lower case): user@gmail.com
server address (all lower case):m.google.com
domain:<leave blank>
username (all UPPER CASE): USER@GMAIL.COM
password:<your password>
- Probably do not sync your contacts, this can screw up what you already have.
- Schedule as items arrive.
Now you can add the HTC Mail widget to neatly view messages in a widget, and you'll have an envelope at the top when you get new mail instead of the gmail @ sign, save battery, filter out spam and other unnecessary messages from getting to your phone, and other reasons listed above.

is the earpiece speaker (the normal phone on your ear speaker) sounds like it is blown but i think its something in the phone rattling. I contacted htc about this and they said i have to send the phone to NY to get it fixed and at least a weeks wait. Thats crap turnaround for a phone. I keep the volume 1 click above half and it buzzes. Its only a few weeks old. They said they never heard about the speaker crackle/vibration when i talked to them...
I can hear the same/very similar sound if i tap the top of my phone with my finger (near the camera) with my phone off to my ear. Its the same with the batt door off, the battery out, the sd card out, holding the sd card down/in, and holding the camera clear shield down.
#2 is i have hotmail working on my phone but occasionally when i send emails with reply all it sends complete jibberish like this,...................

I am having serious problems in Configuring Android SDK with Eclipse. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium version. My Eclipse version is:
Code:
Eclipse Classic 3.7.1
Eclipse Java EE IDE for Web Developers.
Version: Indigo Release[code]....
The new window that appears, I have clicked all of those boxes and choose Next. Upto this point, everything is OK, ADT is installed and I am be asked to restart Eclipse. When Eclipse launches, a new window appears and asks me to either install the Android Software Development Kit (SDK) or choose an existing SDKs location. I chose to install Android Software Development Kit (SDK). I have set SDK location to:
C:My_WorkspaceAndroid_SDK. After everything finishes I see two errors:
Code:
[2012-01-02 14:29:37 - DDMS] DDMS files not found: C:My_Workspaceeclipse-SDK-3.7.1-win32-[code]......
If I click into Window ->Android SDK manager, I get another error message saying:
location of the Android SDK has not been setup in the preference.
If I go Window->Preference->Android, I see that, the SDK location is set to "C:My_WorkspaceAndroid_SDK"
But on top there is an error message saying, "Could not find folder 'tools' inside SDK 'C:My_WorkspaceAndroid_SDK'."

Basically I'm not a great techno lad, although I wish I was - I'm trying to arrange so that I can view my hotmail on my phone? I'm guessing it has something to do with the screen with the sort of blank white canvas with two tabs underneath it - a pencil & 3 horizontal lines?! When you press on it it brings up the screen 'Choose a mail provider' with two options of 'Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync & Other (POP3/IMAP). Both options have thwarted my attempts and to be honest I've no real idea what I am doing. I've synced the phone with my outlook CALENDAR at work, but not the emails - again no idea how to do that! I have set my phone gmail up fine, but a blindfolded crippled donkey could do that.

Moved from a droid x2 to a rasr maxx and have been unable to add one of my email account. I'm using the email app native to the rasr and get to the part where you tell it to go off and set up the account, where it cycles for about 45 seconds and then comes back with the message that it could not open connection.
I've made damn sure the account user name was correct as well as the password. Even did it twice, same result. Next I tried to manually set up the account and got the same damn error message. Now, I'm not sure that I had the port correct and I tried all of the security settings to no avail.

So after having my phone for nearly a year (Razr Maxx) I'm starting to have extremely poor battery life. For example, this morning I left my house at 7:00 at 100%. Spent maybe 20 minutes looking at stuff on my phone, browsing a couple of webpages. Then spent about 20 minutes reading a book and listening to music. Now at 9:00am I'm at 70%.
I suspect that there is something that isn't working right on my phone... that I have some program (possibly malware) that is chewing up data or processor time or something. Any utility that will monitor what's going on and is able to report what programs are accessing data and processor power.
