Android :: Yahoo - Configured As IMAP - Still Not IMAP - Push

Feb 13, 2010

I configured a couple of yahoo email accounts I have... got them setup no problem, did the manual setup, and selected IMAP... entered all the IMAP settings for incoming and outgoing servers... got it connected and receiving emails...

Problem is! NO PUSH? There's even an interval setting in the options, that asks how frequently to check, but NO PUSH...

I could have sworn when I had my first Nexus a few weeks back that my yahoo emails were getting push'ed but now I'm not so sure...

HTC EVO 4G :: Using IMAP With AT&T / Yahoo Email

Aug 11, 2010

I've seen various threads about IMAP settings to use for Yahoo email, but it wasn't clear from most of the posts I read whether it was referring to free Yahoo email or a Yahoo-based account associated with home high speed internet. Some gave parameters not using SSL encryption, and I know that would not work for me, but some used very similar setup to what I currently use on my Palm Pre (which uses an IMAP server with "palm" at the beginning of the name, so I don't know if there's a "secret handshake" between the Pre and the server that disallows access via other devices).

I have AT&T DSL (swbell domain email) and am strongly considering dumping my Pre for an EVO, but IMAP access to my swbell account is a must-have. I have a gmail account, but I'm pretty well-established with the swbell account, and don't want to deal with auto-forwarding. So has anyone successfully set up IMAP access to an AT&T/Yahoo email account? I tried using an IMAP server and parameters I found here through Windows Live Mail, but I keep getting some sort of certificate error claiming my system doesn't support something the server is expecting. I have tried in the past with Thunderbird as well using the palm IMAP server, and never succeeded with that either. So I'm a little hesitant to take the plunge until I have a high level of confidence it'll work. Plus I'm waiting for the Android version of HanDBase anyway, since I use that via Classic on my Pre. I don't mind buying an email client if the standard android client doesn't support it. I may do that anyway if there are better ones out there.

HTC Incredible :: Yahoo Plus - IMAP Or SMTP?

May 15, 2010

Pro's/cons of either setup via the HTC client? I currently have it set up using IMAP, but then I can't access email via WiFi. Yahoo doesn't support IMAP Idle, so it can't simulate push mail. Therefore you need to set a frequency for it to poll.

I was thinking of switching to SMTP so that I could use it at home via WiFi. I already have the IMAP poll frequency set to 1 hour, and could do the same with SMTP. Is there a good reason to stick with IMAP rather than SMTP?

Android : K9 Email - Set It Up Using IMAP

Jun 1, 2010

I'm trying to set up K9 on my Incredible and am having one little problem (so far).

I'm trying to set it up using IMAP.

When I set up the account, I chose Push (though I don't see that option anywhere now that the account has been set up). I also have polling off.

That still seems to be checking email and notifying me upon arrival of new emails.

What I'm having trouble with, though, is it's not syncing correctly with my server. If I delete/mark read/etc an email on the server, that doesn't get automatically reflected in K9.

That's how IMAP is supposed to work.

If I delete it on K9, it does immediately delete it off my server.

Any idea what I might be missing?

Also, is using K9 w/Push going to be tougher on the battery than using the Gmail app?

Android :: IMAP And Self-signed SSL Certificates

Oct 23, 2008

I'm using the Email application. I get a "non-trusted certificate" error when setting up mail for IMAP. This is expected because I generally self-sign my certs. Though, what is not expected is that there seems to be no mechanism to accept non-trusted server certificates. No self-sign certs? That's a deal breaker. There has got to be a work-a-round.

Android :: IMAP Folders In Gmail

I've just got my HTC Desire and configured it all as standard i.e. followed the install walkthough. It is now up and running but I've noticed within my GMAIL account some IMAP folders have arrived, these are new folders all emails that are used on the phone now arrive with one of these labels on. I tried changing the titles of these within GMAIL but then it sets up the Imap ones again. anyone know if I can either get the phone to stop doing this, or if I can change the label?

Android :: How To Reamp K-9 Imap Folders?

Feb 5, 2010

I just bought a HTC Magic and because I don't like the built-in mail client, installed K-9. Now I can access my IMAP mail account pretty easy and everythings seems to work fine. The only problem I have at the moment is that K-9 creates some new folders for trash, sent and other standard stuff. Does anybody know how to remap these folders to use the folders that are already in use (e.g. map "Sent" to "Sent objects")?

Android :: How Well Does G1 Handle Imap E-mail?

Nov 10, 2008

I briefly owned a blackberry not too long ago so that I could handle work e-mail on the go. However, I was disappointed with its e-mail capabilities (or lack thereof) and quickly got rid of it.Due to the nature of my work, I use several different e-mail accounts and I need to be able to access them using imap so that when I move or delete an e-mail locally, it gets updated on the server. Can the G1 accommodate this? For each e-mail account, can you specify things like imap and smtp server?I use a gmail account, a google apps account and three other accounts with other e-mail providers.

Android :: Get Gmail Set Up In K-9 With IMAP IDLE?

Jun 8, 2010

I have 2 hotmail accounts, a gmail account, and another account. After doing some digging it seems that the only IMAP IDLE or other push-email support for hotmail is if you have a BB. There was something about a new feature coming out with the next windows live update but that is a while away.

1. What I'm trying to do is get my gmail set up in K-9 with the IMAP IDLE. As I understand it this is near enough instant email delivery which is exactly what I need. I entered my details into K-9 using the automatic account setup. Is there a drawback to this? What about security like SSL/TLS? and authentication? And whats this about compression on Mobile/WiFi/Other networks?

I sent an email from my hotmail to test if IMAP IDLE was working. It took a 3 minute delay for both my desktop and phone to pick up the email.

I am running K-9 2.6 on a Hero 1.5

2. It is likely it was just the latency between email servers at peak time, but are there any steps I could take to tune K-9 into a leaner meaner email receiver? In the options I see 1st class folders, 2nd class folders, folders to check with push, other folder options, configuring ingoing/outgoing mail servers.

3. I understand that the 1st/2nd class are priorities but what do the above options mean for me?

4. I'm going to forward both hotmails to my gmail. Any ideas for a better setup? Or have they tried similar and had problems?

Android :: K9 Mail - (IMAP) Trash Folder

Android :: IMAP - Deleted Emails Reappear Again Inbox

Apr 17, 2010

I'm having an issue with deleting emails from the generic email client on Android 1.5. I use the gmail app for dedicated gmail stuff, works like a dream. However, my uni email address (IMAP) using the normal 'email' app is a different story. It will receive emails no problem, but if I delete them they disappear for 2 seconds, then reappear in the inbox again (in the same place) with a line through them, they don't even move into the trash folder. However, what does happen is that they disappear off my webmail server. Is there a way of actually removing something from the inbox once it's been received, or is it there forever? It's a LG Gw620 (eve/intouch max) running android 1.5.

Android :: IMAP Email Not Shown In Outlook Sent Items Folder

Oct 18, 2010

I have an HTC Desire and have set up multiple email accounts on it with no trouble. The system works great. The only problem I find with work email accounts (non-gmail or hotmail) is that when I send an email it saves to the sent items folder on the phone but when I go to Outlook and go to the sent items folder there it does not show the sent item. But other than that there are no issues with sending or receiving. I am using 1and1 IMAP for these emails that are having trouble. Has anyone else found a solution to this without downloading an app. I am very used to the system already in Android 2.1.

HTC EVO 4G :: How To Open Attachments From An Imap Account?

Aug 1, 2010

We will be replacing our Palm Treo 755s with HTC EVOs. I have one now and am tasked with getting all the synchronization set up and working for the 30 attorneys and administrative staff I support. The only issue I am having is that I am unable to see, let alone open attachments on emails I receive on the phone. I can see that the message has an attachment because it has a paper clip next to the subject/sender in the email list. When I open the email, I see no evidence of an attachment. One thing I just figured out was that I can open PDF attachments as the phone came with a PDF viewer, but cannot open .DOCs even though I have installed the Docs Togo basic program. (It includes the DOC and XLS viewers). Is this not sufficient to open the attachments? If not is there some other FREE app that will allow me view these attachments on my EVO?

So far I have the phone setup with my IMAP and it's pretty decent, messages appear as unread if I've read them on another computer, I can switch to different folders I've setup, etc. The only thing is that it checks mail every 15 minutes (i could change it to 10 but the polling technique is still used). Is Exchange ActiveSync any better in Android or is it buggy? I'll switch if the push email really is instant and non buggy.

HTC Incredible :: K9 Email Configuration For IMAP

May 11, 2010

I am trying to use the K9 application with Yahoomail on my Droid Incredible. Yahoomail does not work the way I like with the standard HTC email client. It does not save email to sent items when I reply something I really like and when I delete it does not put the items on the server into trash. I have a few questions about the K9 yahoomail setup with PUSH rather than Poll.

1. Does Yahoomail on K9 support PUSH without polling? I want to save battery and avoid polling plus I simply like push better.
2. If it does support PUSH for incoming what is the full setup and configuration to get this to work. I have tried it and it does not seem to download test email. But if I perform a Poll it does.

I am using imap.mail.yahoo.com 143. I also received an update of K9 today from the market that said it fixed the IMAP notification issues.

General :: IMAP Emails Not Deleting?

Mar 22, 2012

I just traded in my webOS Veer for a giant of a phone - the Samsung Galaxy SII.

I have a typical IMAP mail box setup (non gmail). Most everything works fine. However, when I delete emails using the Galaxy, they don't actually delete. In the next sync, they pop right back up.

I guess I was a little spoiled by how well webOS handled the setup of all my email accounts, so hopefully I am just overlooking something obvious.
