Motorola Droid X :: Not Receive The Gingerbread Update Due To Resolution
Oct 26, 2010
Hear that Droid X may possibly not receive the Gingerbread update due to resolution.
I have 1 week left to return my Droid X and get a phone that will support Gingerbread when it comes out. What about the D2? Will any of the current phones available from Verizon work with Gingerbread?
I know it is speculation right now, but I want to make sure I can and will receive GB. My phone is rooted, but I do not want to wait for a port after it is released.

I see a lot of people complaining about the resolution of the Desire HD. I noticed Gingerbread is rumoured to raise the resolution cap. Would any phone be able to take advantage of this?

All the incoming calls I've received since 2.0.1 update look like this: and it slides right/left not up or down like the arrows point. The whole animation graphic is rotated. No forced update, I waited till I got the OTA. Not rooted, no custom unlock or homes.

If this is true, then I can see why the update is taking so long. All U.S. Android phones to receive Android 2.1, but some will require a wipe - Android and Me.All U.S. Android phones may get an update to OS 2.1 soon

My wife and I have yet to receive the OTA update for our DXes. I verified my system version is still .516. Every time I hit "System Updates" it either gives me a quick "can't do that right now" message or it sits and spins forever on "checking for available update". I have not received any notifications of an update being available.
Is it just my household? Is anyone else experiencing this? And does anyone have advice for me, besides "be patient"?

Just did the Froyo OTA earlier - it updated without a hitch (and real fast thanks to broadband Wifi). I've been playing around with my "new" DX and no issues since the update this afternoon. Seems to working great so far. Even though Froyo has just been released I'm curious on what may be changed/enhanced/deleted/etc for Gingerbread (perhaps what other changes people here might expect or want). I have read some of the posts here about it and understand its mostly just speculation at this point, but I thought I might ask anyway. I do hope Motoblur might be removed or at least diminished more than it is now for 3.0. Its supposed to be out by the end of the year from what I've read. Also some have posted that the DX may not get Gingerbread. Hope that's not true.

I'm a proud user of a Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman and it's currently running on Hybrom v17 and Rage Kernel, but it's still signed as Android 2.3.4. I searched on the internet and it seems that people from my country, with the same phone model and operator are getting the official update... But I still don't have it in my PC Companion... Do I have to return to the stock version of Gingerbread to get the update? If so, do I have to change the kernel back to stock too?

Since accepting the Gingerbread update, I have noticed that the Recent Calls feature of the Dialer now only shows timestamps in reference to the current time rather than the time the call occurred. Calls now show timestamps in the format of 1 hour ago or yesterday rather than displaying the actual time of the call.

I updated my Eris to 2.1 about a month ago, and it's been running fine up until about last week. Lately, the battery hasn't been lasting me more than 12 hours, and I've done everything I can to save battery life, plus the battery cover usually gets hot enough to cook some eggs on top of. The problems I've encountered lately is with making and receiving calls. When trying to call someone, it seems to take forever. I know my phone isn't the fastest Android, but it used to work fine. It takes a good 30 seconds just to type in a 10 digit number; the phone usually freezes a couple of times, its just generally laggy.
When I try to receive a call, the same basic thing happens. The phone freezes up while I am trying to slide the bar down on the lock screen, etc. Here's the main issue. After sifting through the freezing and lagging, and finally get to the call, I cannot hear anything, and they cannot hear me. The call is connected; I see the notification up top, and I have got the vibrate to tell me it's connected.

I have photos I took with my 10mp camera and put them on my droid and before I updated to 2.1 when I zoomed in, it didn't lose any resolution. Now with 2.1 when I zoom in it looks blurry. So now I can't view the photos in it's full resolution.

Coming from a BB curve, I am very excited to watch high quality movies on my subway commute everyday. I would like to start converting movies to MP4 tonight to have everything ready to go on Friday, but I need your help. I know there are many posts on this subject, but none specific to the DROID. What is the best free movie converter and at what resolution to do you recommend converting to? While we are on the subject, what is the best video player for the DROID?

All of our Droid's have lost the mail accounts at least once (when you go to email it shows the "new account wizard" - however, the old accounts still show in the "Sync" area. One of the devices seems to be doing it regularly. Wanted to see if anyone had advice with this issue, as I have heard other discussing the issue, but never seen resolution. Specific to the unit that has lost it several times. I factory reset the device last time to see if that would resolve it. It dropped it again not a week later. This unit is not rooted, and is at 2.0.1. The only other assumption I can make is possible problems with an APP?

What are the best dimensions and resolution for the photo widget? It asks to crop the photo on the phone and it kills the quality and it looks more pixelated when you do.

I send lots of text video messages. Before the 2.2 update, the MMS capable video had a decent resolution up to 30 seconds. Since the update, the resolution on the MMS setting (or the low setting) is horrible and almost too grainy to be visible. Is there any workaround? I tried taking just a very short high res. video but it won't let me text it.

I am using folder organizer which I love, but the stock icons it comes with leave much to be desired.I have been through the market and can't find any decent high resolution icon packs. I would even be happy with just stock android icons. Is there a way to use just the icons from themes?

I am a new android user, and got my Droid 2 the morning they came out at the Verizon store. Now the guy that was helping me at the store told me that the battery life would be bad because of the high resolution screen but I didn't expect it to be this bad. I have been having really bad battery issues and I don't even use it constantly. I have it on around 20% brightness during the day, and I really only send text messages, and some web browsing but not a huge amount. My battery will be drained after 6 hours or so, and will need a charge again. When checking on battery manager it does say that most of my energy is going to my screen, but like I said I don't even have it close to the full brightness. I have been using an app killer program to try to maintain that also, but I did read somewhere that it can actually hurt your battery more, from closing and opening apps. Just wanted to hear some feedback from other users since we a couple days after launch. Everything else has been great with this phone, and I am REALLY enjoying the android OS after switching from a Blackberry.

I have a program that should work on Android 1.5, but when it's run on newer devices with higher resolution screens, it should support the full resolution and not emulate a lower resolution screen. As far as I can tell from the documentation, this should be simple.
I just specify
code:.........
The problem is that if I tell Eclipse to compile for 1.5, it refuses to accept this. It reports an error (targetSdkVersion is an unknown tag) and refuses to compile or run. If I tell it to compile for 1.6 it works fine, of course. But if I then try to install on a 1.5 AVD, the program immediately crashes with a java.lang.VerifyError. I'm clearly missing something simple. How do I get it to compile an apk that works under 1.5, but still includes the targetSdkVersion tag?
