I just am wanting to know if one (or more) of the four hardware buttons can wake the device. My impresssion is yes but I need to know for certain.
I need to wake my sleeping android device up at a certain time.
Any suggestions?
P.S. Wake up: turn display on and maybe unlock phone

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a timer that schedule a task to run every 5 minutes. This task send a request to a server, so I need to be sure that CPU is on so that wifi or 3g can be used.
So the first thing I do in my run() method is :
CODE:.........
And the last thing I do in the run() is : wl.release() ;
I would like not to release here to be sure my service will run in the next 5 minutes :
The question is : if the device is already in a sleep state, can I wake up it with my wl.acquire() ?
My app seldom needs to put the device (or screen) to sleep. That is - programmatically imitate user pressing on red stop-call button. According to docs PowerManager.goToSleep() does just that, but requires android.permission.DEVICE_POWER, which is never granted to apps!
(A) What on earth should I do to get this working?
(B) How can I programmatically wake up the device.
just to clarify - I'm not interested in a wake lock solution.
when i try to wake up the droid the buttons at the bottom light up but the screen never comes back up and i have to pull the battery to reboot it, is there any easier fix then that? this is happening too often now...........

I'm wondering how I can choose to wake up my phone without having to do the slider everytime or at all.I work at my home office 12 hours a day and my phone is on my desk always.I use it alot and put it down, then use it some more and back down again.I'd like to conserve battery and not set it to just "screen stay" aka never timeout because that just uses so much battery with the screen on.And using that slider over and over and over well you get the point. So how can I just set it to wake up on like touching the screen or something?
View 7 Replies View RelatedOn my last full discharge, I looked at the Spare Parts app battery history, and took a look at partial wake usage since I've read thats where you can see what apps are really draining your battery. What i saw that above everything was UID 10074, then android system, and then usual stuff. What is UID 10074? I google and searched, but the one time it was mentioned someone said they didn't know. It said something like over 3hours usage for partial wake for UID 10074. My battery life isn't terrible, but this thing seems like its hogging resources?
View 8 Replies View RelatedOne thing i envy on the iPhone is that it has a real button for 'Home' so you can wake the phone up from sleep by pressing it. Its 10000% more convenient than going up top to the lock/sleep button (especially on the droid which feels kinda awkward to get to) So my question is, are there any apps out there, or any settings, that will make it so i can wake up my phone by pressing either the volume rocker or the camera button or maybe something that keeps the home key awake?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis has almost become a gag, if I hit the lock button or allow the screen to timeout while inside of a text message, when I awaken the screen for whatever reason and I do not immediately hit the home button the messaging app freezes and then force closes. This happens if I try to respond or go back to the msg list. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere are a bunch of threads out there talking about battery usage and how to figure out what's draining your battery.
Almost all of them say to go get Spare Parts app from the market and check you "partial wake usage".
I did that and 95% of my partial wake usage is from "Android System".
Is that normal? Anyone who is getting good battery life (20+ hours) - what do you see in the partial wake usage?
I just checked my phone:
13h 10m 23s since unplugged
Partial Wakelock:Android System Total time: 13h 1m 44s
Is this normal?
The only widgets I have are:
Stock power control widget
Ringer Toggle Widget
I am running GDE in the background (not my default home screen).
Biggest thing I'm concerned about...can the X be woken up by one of the front hard buttons? Without 3rd party app?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy screen turns black when i wake up my phone. frequent reboots, that it does on it's on, not to mention the lines showing up across my screen. this phone has never been dropped and has a screen protector and case on it. looks like i'll be calling verizon for a replacement - totally unacceptable, but understandable considering it's a new phone.. and it seems these days things are being rushed out the door.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've read around that the Apple headphones with the microphone do not work with the X. But all the threads I've read that from are from a while ago. What I've learned is that apparently other headphones with mics will work but these will not pickup your voice through the mic, and the volume and click buttons will not work. My question to you is, did anybody get these headphones to work with the mic and buttons? How did you get it to work? It seems to me that it is a software issue because other headphones will work, so has anybody configured there phone in a way to make it happen?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs anyone else just hating the hardware buttons for Menu, Home, Back, and Search? I can barely one-hand with the touch screen as it is, but the hardware buttons are making me change my whole hand position to press them. Plus, the cover I have on it comes right up next to them, making them even more difficult to press.
I kind of wish they were Droid-esque touch buttons instead.
I have had a bunch of problems with my droid keyboards. What is happening is that the corner of the keyboard buttons will bend up - it then gets caught on my cover, or on the phone as it slides. I originally had the problem with the lower left hand corner of the I button, I replaced the phone and got a 'certified like new' phone from verizon. Now the lower left hand corner of my R button is starting to have the same problem. If I move my finger over the board, the corner will actually poke my finger. What gives? Is anyone else having this problem? I am very careful with the phone and don't do anything unusual. I wonder if I am dragging my fingers as I message, etc.
View 12 Replies View RelatedThe "Menu", "Back" and "Search" buttons are not working for some reason? The "Home" button is the only one that works. I'm talking about the hard buttons on the bottom of the phone. This started today. Tried removing the battery and restarting the phone and that didn't seem to work either. Now Droid X not booting at all. Just stays on the "M" and nothing happens. Tried the Power button with home key press to get to recovery and nothing.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAnyone found out how you can dim the 4 buttons when your droid is in media dock? I know that they are controlled by the light sensor, and light up when in darkness. Anyway to stop the light sensor? I have tried the brightness, it is set at none, still the little 4 buttons light up as soon as it gets dark. Dim the screen and still can read by the buttons. Why have a dimmer that only dims the screen?
View 5 Replies View RelatedHow do you guys like the physical buttons vs. the soft buttons (glass) on other phones? I've got an Incredible that I really like, but I'm having two issues that I'm not liking. Call quality and battery life. I looked at the Droid X and really didn't like the physical buttons. How many of you were disappointed by the physical buttons but have found them to be OK after using them?
View 35 Replies View RelatedIs it just me or do the bottom 4 physical buttons on the droid x and the camera button feel flimsy, cheap, or loose?
View 13 Replies View RelatedSo far so great with the new Droid X!! I have not had any of the lag problems or battery life issues that I have seen posted. My X is fast and smooth, I love it so far. Having said that, I can see a potential problem with the physical buttons on the device. When I first started using the X, the buttons were tight and had a crisp feel when pressed.
Now after 1 day of use, the" back" button is getting loose and is not nearly as crisp as it was. I don't think it will last much longer. I wish there was a way to back out of a screen or app via a screen button as opposed to the physical one. If anyone knows a way to avoid using the physical button to go back a web screen, please let me know. Other than that, this thing rules.
