Motorola Droid X :: Way To Remove Koush's Recovery?

Aug 21, 2010

Is there anyway to easily remove the bootstrap? I seem to have jumped the gun without reading that the bootstrap causes you to not be able to upgrade to 2.2. Anyway, I know you can flash the .SBF to the phone (by the way, I have no idea what that .SBF file is.), but I'm looking for a way that you can just remove it without losing all of my applications and such. So is there any easy way to do this? Also, if there is, I'd like to edit my post and put it in here as a tutorial so they can possibly sticky this thread in case anyone gets into a situation such as mine.

Motorola Droid X :: Way to remove Koush's recovery?

Motorola Droid X :: Manually Boot Into Koush Recovery

Oct 7, 2010

I semi-bricked my phone. I installed Rubix Rom through Rom Manager and it installed over top of FlyX. It starts up like normal (just doesn't go to the Koush Recovery screen on startup). When I unlock the phone, there is just the status bar and everything else is completely black. I can connect usb and change how it connects. Is there a way to get into the Koush Recovery manually at startup somehow? I just want to flash back my backup. I'm at work and I'm using OSX so I can't exactly do the SBF (unless someone knows a way without having to set up a virtual machine).

I've been on the fence forever with rooting my x. Been lurking your forum for awhile now among others. reading up. Just scared i'll mess my phone up and have to buy another. I'm sure you deal with people like me daily. Anyways, I'm going to wait for the official 2.2 to come out, then worry about rooting. My question is, If I would use androot and koush's backup, and only used trustworthy roms that people post on forums like this, with positive feedback. do i really have to worry about bricking my phone?

Motorola Droid :: Fix - Stock Recovery Coming Back / Custom Recovery Wont Stick

Aug 24, 2010

First off let me say that I was wrong about this issue. Its not an issue with Easy root it is just something built into android. So I apologize to anyone I argued this subject with but specifically Patch. Its also not an issue with rom manager. This applys to users that after flashing a custom recovery they can boot into it once but the next time you try to boot into recovery it has reverted to stock.

This mostly happens to users of easy root or users that use my guide for rooting using Linux

So for the fix.

Download this file and place it in the root of your sd card.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7223192/install-recovery.sh

Download Terminal Emulator from the market. The one by the dev Jack Palevich.
Open it and type the following commands.

su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
dd if=/sdcard/install-recovery.sh of=/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
chmod 550 /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
sync

after that just flash the custom recovery of your choice and you should be good to go.

I tested this on my phone and another user tested it for me and it worked for both of us. If anyone has an issue let me know. This issue is so sporadic that its hard to have people test the fix.

General :: Any Way To Remove Factory Reset Option From Recovery?

Dec 20, 2013

I'm on a team that manages a large number of Android tablets for the company at which I'm employed. The higher ups are concerned that our users will just walk off with the tablets and do a factory reset, making the device theirs. I was hoping there was some way to password-protect the bootloader, but it doesn't seem like that's possible. So now we're thinking that even if we could remove the recovery, it would ease the minds of the higher-ups to know that if a tablet disappears, the user will have to have a working knowledge of fastboot to be able to to a factory reset on the device, and that's good enough for us. I've looked into possibly modifying the stock recovery to just remove the factory reset option, and I would be willing to flash a modified CWM or TWRP without factory reset, if either of them exist.

I know the old adage: Physical access is root access, but if we can at least dissuade them from stealing the devices, it would make my bosses feel much more at ease about spending a buttload on the tablets.

Motorola Droid :: Can't Get To Recovery

Oct 5, 2010

trying to remain calm, but not doing a very good job. Just received a new replacement Droid, rooted it using easy root. Everything worked fine, I was able to restore all of my apps from TiB with no problem. Went to ROM Manager to install a new rom, but wanted to reboot into recovery first to ensure all was working okay, but never made it to the recovery menu, just got an exclamation point in a triangle with a phone symbol at the bottom. Now I'm stuck in a bootloop and I'm unable to get into Clockworkmod recovery, I have no idea what to do? Edit: okay, I have no idea how I did this, but I tried to go into recovery again and got the same exclamation in a triangle, but I decided to randomly hold down the Power button along with the camera button and hit the volume rocker and even with the symbol still showing, I got a recovery menu where I was able to reset and reboot and i still have root. Truly have no idea how I did this, but sometimes the sun shines on.

Motorola Droid :: How To Remove SU?

Nov 18, 2010

I was rooted and then not and then again and then not and now I'm back on my "not rooted" kick. I have actually found the phone quite snappy without root and have had no issues since unrooting. This morning I was doing some house cleaning and found that SU is still installed on my phone. I tried to uninstall and got the Uninstall Unsuccessful message. Can someone walk me through uninstalling this app? I have the Android SDK tools installed and have used them, although I am by no means an expert or even a casual user, so be gentle. I am assuming that I will be able to remove the app through some sequence of adb commands.
