First off let me say that I was wrong about this issue. Its not an issue with Easy root it is just something built into android. So I apologize to anyone I argued this subject with but specifically Patch. Its also not an issue with rom manager. This applys to users that after flashing a custom recovery they can boot into it once but the next time you try to boot into recovery it has reverted to stock.
This mostly happens to users of easy root or users that use my guide for rooting using Linux
So for the fix.
Download this file and place it in the root of your sd card.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7223192/install-recovery.sh
Download Terminal Emulator from the market. The one by the dev Jack Palevich.
Open it and type the following commands.
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
dd if=/sdcard/install-recovery.sh of=/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
chmod 550 /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
sync
after that just flash the custom recovery of your choice and you should be good to go.
I tested this on my phone and another user tested it for me and it worked for both of us. If anyone has an issue let me know. This issue is so sporadic that its hard to have people test the fix.

First off you must have a 100% stock rom and be rooted.

I felt it was a bit hard to follow the directions posted on how to restore your recovery after clockwork or allyRR (custom recovery) on a rooted ally so that ota updates will work correctly.
-If you are not rooted install a app called astro from the market and install universal androot from your sdcard ( Universal Androot Beta )
Anyway, here is my simplified version. It was tested on windows 7 x64 and x86 props to drellisdee im just restating his work (http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/146564-ally-recovery-img-here-custom-roms.html)
The file links are on his post and elsewhere on the fourm
-Download-
android sdk (found on official android site)
flash-image (needs to be unziped)
stock_recovery.img (thanks to drellisdee)
install android sdk to C:
install Lg Usbdriver - if needed copy flash_image to the root of your sdcard (remember to unzip it)
copy stock_recovery.img to the root of your sdcard
run cmd (windows command shell) as administrator by left clicking it
/ cd C:androidsdk ools (sdk's tools directory)
/ adb shell
/ $ su
you should have root # prompt on you phone, allow acess.
/ # mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
/ # cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
/ # chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
/ # mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
/ # flash_image recovery /sdcard/stock_recovery.img
/ # reboot
now your done ... wasn't that easy....if you wanted to completely revert to a stock 'out of the box' ally flash the lg v6 rom first then fix your recovery second
thanks to death2all110(How-To: Flash Stock LG Rom)
Finally i have to recommend flashing first the vzb deodexed and radio rom, then velocity 2, then the new v4 jit oc kernel and install adw launcher and set cpu @ 740mhz for max performance/max stability if you want a rooted ally... personally i used allyRR to achieve this, it personally gives me less trouble than clockworkmod... all of these file can be found on this forum or market.

this isnt the same as all the others, i rooted my phone and was able to download apps for a few minutes, after that all my apps would sit at "starting Download" i would wait hours for it to work but nothing ever changed. i paniked and reset factory settings on my phone so i only have stock apps and SU, the catch is it wont let me delete SU so my warrantee is void. also when i try to reboot recovery it looks like it will then goes black and starts normally. is there a way to remove SU or reboot recovery another way? i would be fine if the market started working again please help.

For the life of me, I can't seem to flash the stock recovery using my phone. I've used terminal, rebooted in recovery and tried to flash zip. Nothing works, just using my phone. I see a flash alternate recovery option in ROM manager but idk how to activate it?

Finally got Velocity installed and setup the way I like it. It's a tremendous improvement in overall performance compared to the stock. Kudos to Trident for taking the time to put this together for all of us. I only have one problem with it that I hope I can do something about or I may end up back on the stock ROM. Velocity comes with the latest Google maps version, which I hate because you can't clear the data so over time the app builds up more and more used space. Since I use the Google Maps Navigation pretty much everyday for work, that's going to be a small problem. Does anyone know if there is an app out there that allows you to clear the map data periodically? Or is there a way I can push the stock Map app into Velocity and do what I did before and simply ignore the update notices? I know I can just keep uninstalling it and reinstalling it periodically and i may end up doing that if there is no way to clear the data because I would really like to keep Velocity. I hope this doesn't come across as a knock on Velocity because it's not meant to be. I think it's a tremendous upgrade to the Ally and if it wasn't for my unique situation of using Google Maps so much, I wouldn't even be asking.

I'm looking at sending my phone back in to TMO, but I don't want there to be a trace of anything. I rooted via the update.zip and flashed Clockwork, but haven't flashed any other roms or anything.
I was curious, is there a way to flash back to the stock recovery? Or would uninstalling Rom Manager, then unrooting via terminal, have the same effect?

I hit the top button. Flash Clockworkmod recovery or what ever it said. I then backed up my Current ROM. I then downloaded Cyanogen v6.0.0 cr2. It downloaded and rebooted my phone. But It went to a screen with a Triangle w/ exclamation and a phone under it. I then hit the up vol button and camera, and now I'm at the Android system recovery page and I don't know what to do next. These are my options reboot system now apply sdcard:update.zip wipe data/factory rest wipe cache partition wipe base band data. I did click to backup current ROM and wipe data and cache.

Let me start off by saying I did/still do have a nandroid and also a custom ROM zip on my SD. I used the ROM manager application to wipe data/cache, like I have done about 10 times this past week, and flashed a new ROM. So my phone reboots to recovery, "clockwork mod recovery", you have to use this recovery to use ROM manager, and instead of flashing the ROM, it gives me some error message. Now for anyone who isn't familiar with clockwork recovery, you can't flash a nandroid from it, you have to revert back to the stock recovery to flash a nandroid, or at least I do.
So now all I can do is reboot my hero which brings me back to stock 2.1 with no root access. Now I know what your thinking, "just flash your nandroid", but now I can't. To flash my nandroid I would have to reflash the stock recovery image through ROM manager, and now I'm stuck with the clockwork recovery image because ROM manager requires root to swap recoveries, and no ability to nandroid back to where I was before. Basically, unless there is a way to change my recovery back to stock without being rooted currently.

I found an update on my wife's Ally for ROM Manager and updated it, to find that there is now support for the Ally! I installed it a few days ago after rooting it within minutes of pulling it out of the box. Link below from twitter!
Twitter / Koushik Dutta: LG Ally recovery and ROM M ...
Now yall devs get to deving! I'm sure there are plenty like me who would donate for some sweet ROMs and OC kernels.

Just rooted yesterday, and everything was running great... untill I installed Simply Stunning v4.3. I went to make a back up and found that I cannot access my recovery, it was stuck at the M. Now Rom Manager says that if this happens, flash a different recovery then flash clockwork back. Here is the catch- When I try to flash a different recovery I get this, "An error occurred while flashing your recovery."

Is there any way to remove keyboard shortcuts for a rooted phone? For instance, while texting i sometimes press ALT+DEL and it removes the whole line i was typing. Kind of frustrating. So if there were a way to remove those shortcuts through terminal or modifying files that would be great

note before attempting any of this that rooting does void your warranty. I also am not reponsible for any damage that is done to your phone but am more than willing to help you solve a problem in IRC. See my signature on how to get on #ally IRC channel. I do not actually use the Clockwork Recovery (i use drellisdees).
Guide to flashing roms on the LG Ally with screenshots. First off. Make sure your phone is rooted. If your phone is not rooted see the following options.
Option 1a: Universal 1 click root. (easy way) Universal Androot Beta
1b: z4root 1 click root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953

Before applying the Turbo4 ROM, I ran Linpack to get a base number so I can compare it with the number I get after I apply Turbo4. I got a 4.188. The phone is rooted with many of the stock apps removed running the Zeam Launcher, but no other custom ROMS.
Is that a pretty good number to start with? It was higher than I was expecting because most linpack scores i've read about are in the 3's.

But i thought when I rooted my Incredible that unrevoked told me i was finished... should I select reboot in the clockwork mod? or jsut do a nandroid real quick?

I've had my INC Rooted and have the old version of ClockworkMOD Recovery since I did it.
I believe i know how to do it,
1) Download http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recover....5.0.1-inc.img
2) DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PHONE
3) Run unrEVOked v3.0
4) Under FILE choose CUSTOM RECOVERY
5) Point to the img file
6) Plug in your phone
What does the new version do that the old one doesnt?
Is it in my best interest to do it?
How do I do it with v3.1?

Had an issue with Rom Manager. Just installed it on my rooted S-off with Cyanogenmod 6 dinc and it is not recognizing that I already have Clockworkmod recovery flashed. It is telling me to do it again, however I have read in a few spots that with S-on it is just fine allow Rom Manager to reflash it but with S-off this could be an issue. If I allow Rom Manager to reflash clockworkmod when I already have it on my phone will it be a problem?

I recently rooted my Hero using superoneclick, worked like a charm. I downloaded ROM Manager and was looking to start experimenting with ROMs. For starters, I figured I'd load one of the ROMs already preloaded in ROM Manager (free version).
So I downloaded the ROM which seemed to go fine, clicked on it, followed the prompts which eventually led me to reboot into recovery mode via Clockworkmod to "complete the installation." So I got to the reboot screen, here's what it looked like (below). What do I do from here? Where did the ROM download to? How do I "complete installation." Thanks.
Not sure what to do once I reach this screen. It already asked if I wanted to back up the current ROM and wipe, which I agreed to. when I downloaded the ROM it didn't ask me where I wanted to save it to, when I got to this screen I looked in the SD card by clicking "install zip from SD card" and didn't see it there. Where is it?
