Motorola Droid :: Clockworkmod Recovery "An Error Occurred While Flashing Your Recovery"
Jul 5, 2010
Just rooted yesterday, and everything was running great... untill I installed Simply Stunning v4.3. I went to make a back up and found that I cannot access my recovery, it was stuck at the M. Now Rom Manager says that if this happens, flash a different recovery then flash clockwork back. Here is the catch- When I try to flash a different recovery I get this, "An error occurred while flashing your recovery."

I rooted my stock 2.2 Evo a few days ago and have been loving CM6 on it. I had Clockwork Recovery 2.5.0.1 installed and finally got used to using it. I read that ROM manager was a nice graphical interface to CWR so I went to check it out. Unfortunately I couldn't do anything at all in it. Every time I tried to do anything it said I needed Clockwork Recovery installed. This confused me because it already was installed.
I would try to install it anyways, I would select "Evo CDMA" and then it would fail every time. I decided I would try to install Amon-Ra instead, and then just flash back. ROM Manager was able to flash Amon-Ra easily, but now still gives me an error every time I try to install Clockwork. I'm still new to the whole rooting scene and this is the first problem I've run into. Also, I already tried Fixing User Permissions.

So I flashed back to sbf then rooted. Now I downloaded ROM manager and tried to boot into clockwork recovery through it to update back to 2.2. Well, every time I click "reboot into recovery", it just restarts my phone. I've tried clearing cache, uninstalling and reinstalling rom manager but nothing will boot into recovery. I've tried downgrading to a different clockwork mod recovery, but it gives me the error message "an error occured while downloading your recovery".

I hit the top button. Flash Clockworkmod recovery or what ever it said. I then backed up my Current ROM. I then downloaded Cyanogen v6.0.0 cr2. It downloaded and rebooted my phone. But It went to a screen with a Triangle w/ exclamation and a phone under it. I then hit the up vol button and camera, and now I'm at the Android system recovery page and I don't know what to do next. These are my options reboot system now apply sdcard:update.zip wipe data/factory rest wipe cache partition wipe base band data. I did click to backup current ROM and wipe data and cache.

Just rooted my DInc, trying to install ROMs using ROM Manager v2.5.0.3 but every time I select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" I get an error message stating: "Error while downloading from server. Please make sure that you have a stable internet connection, and that your SD card is inserted and has free space!" I have about 25gb left on the SD card which is most definitely inserted. Plus I have full 3g and have no problem downloading and installing ROM Manager as I reinstalled several times. Any way to fix this or do i have to install ROMs manually?

I have read through the guides referenced in the sticky but I'm still a bit lost on this sprecovery and clockworkmod recovery or whatever. I've rooted my FRG22 and have the superuser permissions and have installed titanium backup. I will backup my SMS/call log/apps/etc before flashing any ROMs.
I want to now do the nandroid backup business, but I'm lost on whether to use sprecovery or clockworkmod recovery. One of the guides says clockworkmod recovery is easier. I'm not about the 1-click stuff, I'd rather understand what it is i'm doing. Where do I get either of these utilities? Which one is "better" to use?
The concept is that the utility lives on my sdcard and creates a backup image that can then be loaded if manage to flub things up going back and forth between ROMs? Is this the utility that would run when I boot the phone and press X? (Right now if I do that, I just get the phone and exclamation point, i take it because I have no recovery utility installed?) Sorry if this has been covered, I've been reading all evening, just need someone to break it down for me.

My friend tried using a ROM Manager on his DX and it doesn't seem to be working right. When trying to flash a ROM it reboots, attempts to boot into Recovery, fails, then boots up normally.
When I boot into into his ClockworkMod recovery manually, it doesn't appear to have all the options like it should. For instance, I cannot create a Nandroid backup or flash stuff from the SD card. Is this normal?
From within the ROM Manger I tried to flash a new ClockWorkMod Recovery but that also fails just like flashing a ROM.
I have an Incredible so I don't wanna screw up his DX so how do I flash a new Recovery for him? I can't create a backup of his stuff so I want to be extra careful.

note before attempting any of this that rooting does void your warranty. I also am not reponsible for any damage that is done to your phone but am more than willing to help you solve a problem in IRC. See my signature on how to get on #ally IRC channel. I do not actually use the Clockwork Recovery (i use drellisdees).
Guide to flashing roms on the LG Ally with screenshots. First off. Make sure your phone is rooted. If your phone is not rooted see the following options.
Option 1a: Universal 1 click root. (easy way) Universal Androot Beta
1b: z4root 1 click root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953

I rooted my android device with froyo yesterday. I installed the rom manager and its associated programs. Then I downloaded and installed the Cyanogen 6.0 mod. I was able to install the mod yesterday but I did not wipe my data clean which made the startup screen loop. I restored my phone, and now I can not reinstall the Cyanogen 6.0 mod. I go into the rom manager and select download, I select to wipe my data and to backup the system, then I restart in the Clock Work Recovery Mod. Once there I can not find the Cyanogen 6.0 to flash. I have been trying to get this to work for the past 24 hours!

I am on twrp recovery version 2.1.3 and to upgrade to 2.5.0.0 I used the Google .im app but even after the message showing that recovery was flashed successfully, when I reboot into recovery I still see the 2.1.3 twrp only..So I tried flashing it with terminal emulator but it didn't work. This error shows up every time failed scanning partitions failed with error : - 1
I tried putting the .img file in the root folder as well but it didn't work..I tried naming the root of sd card as storage/emulated/legacy, storage/ emulated / 0, /sdcard, etc but it keeps on giving this error every single time!

So I was having a problem with my Optimus V (Virginmobile) and I couldn't send or receive texts. I did a factory restart thinking it would work but then found myself at the recovery menu. When I try to flash xionia_cwma_12518.6.zip it says E:cant find update script. When I try and flash CM7.2RC1_VM670-BobZhome-052012 it installs and when I reboot i get taken back to the recovery menu.
In short; My Virgin Mobile Optimus V is stuck in a recovery loop that I am unable to get out of due to an error while trying to flash ROMs/ Custom Recovery.
The error reads at the end of all attempts: E: Can't find update script.

I just received a used phone that, when powered on, has Clockworkmod Recovery.
Why would this be on the used phone? Has the OS or phone been tampered with by previous user?
I cannot figure how to get to main phone screen.

First off let me say that I was wrong about this issue. Its not an issue with Easy root it is just something built into android. So I apologize to anyone I argued this subject with but specifically Patch. Its also not an issue with rom manager. This applys to users that after flashing a custom recovery they can boot into it once but the next time you try to boot into recovery it has reverted to stock.
This mostly happens to users of easy root or users that use my guide for rooting using Linux
So for the fix.
Download this file and place it in the root of your sd card.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7223192/install-recovery.sh
Download Terminal Emulator from the market. The one by the dev Jack Palevich.
Open it and type the following commands.
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
dd if=/sdcard/install-recovery.sh of=/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
chmod 550 /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
sync
after that just flash the custom recovery of your choice and you should be good to go.
I tested this on my phone and another user tested it for me and it worked for both of us. If anyone has an issue let me know. This issue is so sporadic that its hard to have people test the fix.

Using Rom Manager, Clockwork recovery, on any ROM, currently Pete's V1. I have yet to successfully restore a previously backed up ROM without getting the MD5 checksum error. I've tried both from inside Rom Manager, manage backups, and booting into recovery and hitting the backup directory. File names are left at default, as 2010-05-02-02.42.46. Frustrating as I wind up having to start from scratch if a ROM install fails.

But i thought when I rooted my Incredible that unrevoked told me i was finished... should I select reboot in the clockwork mod? or jsut do a nandroid real quick?

I've had my INC Rooted and have the old version of ClockworkMOD Recovery since I did it.
I believe i know how to do it,
1) Download http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recover....5.0.1-inc.img
2) DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PHONE
3) Run unrEVOked v3.0
4) Under FILE choose CUSTOM RECOVERY
5) Point to the img file
6) Plug in your phone
What does the new version do that the old one doesnt?
Is it in my best interest to do it?
How do I do it with v3.1?

Had an issue with Rom Manager. Just installed it on my rooted S-off with Cyanogenmod 6 dinc and it is not recognizing that I already have Clockworkmod recovery flashed. It is telling me to do it again, however I have read in a few spots that with S-on it is just fine allow Rom Manager to reflash it but with S-off this could be an issue. If I allow Rom Manager to reflash clockworkmod when I already have it on my phone will it be a problem?

I recently rooted my Hero using superoneclick, worked like a charm. I downloaded ROM Manager and was looking to start experimenting with ROMs. For starters, I figured I'd load one of the ROMs already preloaded in ROM Manager (free version).
So I downloaded the ROM which seemed to go fine, clicked on it, followed the prompts which eventually led me to reboot into recovery mode via Clockworkmod to "complete the installation." So I got to the reboot screen, here's what it looked like (below). What do I do from here? Where did the ROM download to? How do I "complete installation." Thanks.
Not sure what to do once I reach this screen. It already asked if I wanted to back up the current ROM and wipe, which I agreed to. when I downloaded the ROM it didn't ask me where I wanted to save it to, when I got to this screen I looked in the SD card by clicking "install zip from SD card" and didn't see it there. Where is it?
