Motorola Droid :: How To Remove SU?
Nov 18, 2010
I was rooted and then not and then again and then not and now I'm back on my "not rooted" kick. I have actually found the phone quite snappy without root and have had no issues since unrooting. This morning I was doing some house cleaning and found that SU is still installed on my phone. I tried to uninstall and got the Uninstall Unsuccessful message. Can someone walk me through uninstalling this app? I have the Android SDK tools installed and have used them, although I am by no means an expert or even a casual user, so be gentle. I am assuming that I will be able to remove the app through some sequence of adb commands.

I'm using 2.3.13 deodexed with the Gala X 1.5 theme and found these have duplicates in my app drawer. Which of these duplicate .apk files can be deleted/renamed without consequence? Also, this is done with root explorer in the system/apps folder, correct?

So my phone was rooted using 1 click method during 2.1. However, my phone is now in 2.2. I did a hard/factory reset. Apparently that didn't remove Superuser permission. Residual root files are still there. I made sure to untick the option to back up my settings. So... I'm guessing I have to manually get it out. Any ideas how I can do it now? I'm looking to root 2.2 but I think it's best if I start fresh.

I'm trying to remove my root. I had tried to remove root using SuperOneClick but it said superuser not on this device, even though it was. After a ton of work I finally FINALLY got superuser.apk off of the phone. Now what do I have to do next to finish unrooting my phone?

I did some searching and didn't really come up with an answer, so flame away if it's out there. Is there a way to get rid of the entire notification bar at the top of the screen? I am running Bat Stat and Clockr so I thought it would be nice to get rid of it.

Is there anyway to easily remove the bootstrap? I seem to have jumped the gun without reading that the bootstrap causes you to not be able to upgrade to 2.2. Anyway, I know you can flash the .SBF to the phone (by the way, I have no idea what that .SBF file is.), but I'm looking for a way that you can just remove it without losing all of my applications and such. So is there any easy way to do this? Also, if there is, I'd like to edit my post and put it in here as a tutorial so they can possibly sticky this thread in case anyone gets into a situation such as mine.

I'm developing the Soup or Root program for droids (computer-based, no apk yet sorry) as we all know, but I'm getting so tired of having to reflash my Droid to stock ROM over and over and over! I'm now working on Soup or Root 2.0 which means I'm going to be rooting my droid multiple times again to test effectively, but I really really really like the custom ROM and settings and everything I have on there now. Is there a way that I could save my Droid's current state exactly how it is as a flash able ROM for when I'm done testing, just flash to this ROM and I'm back to what I like? That way I could flash to stock ROM, root test, reflash stock ROM, root, repeat until testing is complete, then flash to my current state (ROM backup) and be happy with my Droid? Maybe I could get the droid simulator on my computer to be recognized by ADB, what do you think? That would save me all trouble of confusing the crap out of my poor Droid!

When I originally rooted my phone (I had 2.1 at the time), I was able to remove all the bloatware i didnt want by going into Root Explorer and changing each application's file extension from .apk to .bak.
Now, with Froyo, I tried to do the same thing, but the only apps that show up in /data/app are the ones that I have installed off the market.
Am I looking in the correct directory? How do I go about removing all this crap in Froyo?

I know that for example the Droid X has motoblur, and the bootloader hasn't been figured out yet, so you can't use custom roms. However, can root access allow someone to remove motoblur, or is that impossibe still?

When I first set up my phone, I synced my Google contacts (from 2 accounts). I have since cleaned up my contacts, no longer syncing the Google contacts ... I only have my phone contacts. After cleaning things up, I still have 2 empty "Google" contact groups. My question: Is it possible to remove a contact group? I haven't found a way to do it and I have had no luck searching here or on the rest of the internet. I just want to clear up the clutter. I think it's silly to have 2 empty contact groups.

Is there a way to do this? Basically all I want to see to the right side is the 3G/1X indicator. I would love to remove, or at the very least hide, the battery and clock info.

So I did a rename to the file gtalkservice.apk to *.bak. I never use the app because I have eBuddy. But since I did it I am getta the error that com.google.process.gapps is force closing when I reboot the phone. Is this caused because gtalk is gone? And why?
Now the weirdest thing is that GTalk is still there, but I've previously been successful on Visual Voicemail, and others.
