HTC EVO 4G :: Upgrading To OTA Froyo From Unrevoked 2.1

Nov 22, 2010

I don't know a ton about Android but I rooted my wife's EVO using Unrevoked (I think the 2nd rev of Unrevoked) earlier this year. I have been having her ignore the upgrade notice that keeps popping up until now - I'd like to upgrade her to 2.2 so we can have video chat w/ Yahoo Messenger. I downloaded the update and went to install and got the Android guy w/ the Exclamation Mark triangle thing. I've read thru a bunch of posts and it seems like most people recommend either unrooting by various methods then doing OTA update, or flashing a rooted 2.2 ROM.

Most of these posts are a couple months old from when the OTA came out and I was just wondering if there was a better way to go about doing this now that I am not finding. Bascially I want to: Upgrade from rooted 2.1 to rooted, standard Sprint 2.2 without losing any data/apps. Can someone point me to a step-by-step on how to do this or possibly a video walkthrough?

If you've lost your root due to upgrading to 2.2, you're most likely in luck.

Check out this link, [ROOT] unrEVOked 3.2: one-click root for Froyo, no downgrading - xda-developers, then head over to ##unrevokedtest at freenode.net to get in on the testing.

For those wanting to root, you may want to wait for unRevoked 3.2. It is supposed to be 1-click root and requires no downgrading.

HTC EVO 4G :: NEVER Sleeps - Upgrading To 2.2 Froyo?

Aug 3, 2010

I'm actually more disappointed than I am happy with the update. This is just a minor vent, ignore if you don't want to read. I'm coming from Windows Mobile. Having apps running or not, was a simple thing. With android, why does it have to be an annoyance? I understand Android handles programs in the background well esp Froyo. But why does it have to be a pain, esp for the OCD types, when you close apps you don't want running, they just open themselves again? You can go as far as going into the services, and shutting down that service, not only the app, and have that service restart itself. With 2.1, using Advanced Task Killer, the apps were closed and never really opened again. Unless I lost service or something, which for some reason triggers the internet related apps to open again.

Now I did a hard reset earlier hoping to fix some of the problems I'm having. It didn't really help at all. One problem I'm having is, my Evo NEVER sleeps. Currently synchronized at 0:52:xx Up/Awake times, restarted earlier hoping for change. 2.1, I never had this issue. And after hard resetting, I'd think it would be normal as it is the bare OS itself. Didn't work. Downloaded System Panel lite, forced closed some apps, also from settings-applications. Still same results. 2.1, I had a very good standby time when I wasn't using it.............

HTC Incredible :: Upgrading To 2.2 Froyo - Exchange Lock Screen

Sep 4, 2010

1. I run an application called "lockpicker" which allows me to bypass the Exchange Lock screen, which made me put in a password every time I would turn my phone off, or every time I would shut off the screen (which was VERY annoying). I have had no problems with my work email, connecting to it, or with the exchange lock screen since installing lockpicker. In fact, its like the lock screen doesnt even exist, which I love. I hear that lockpicker is NOT compatible with Froyo 2.2, which makes me extremely nervous about upgrading, because if I have to put in a code every time my phone goes to sleep, I will like the phone a lot less.

2. Google Listen - I use this program to listen to 5-6 podcasts that I subscribe to and I find that while it does have some bugs, its simple and the easiest way I have found to organize my podcasts and listen to them. I hear that this doesnt work anymore with 2.2 either (although I could be wrong).........

If I already upgraded my Droid X Unrooted phone to Froyo 2.2 with an earlier version I assume I will have to roll back to 2.1 to get the automatic update tomorrow. Is there a way to wait for one of the android sites to get the latest version, download it and do the upgrade myself? If I have to roll it back, what is the best way to do it?

Nexus :: Upgrading To Latest Froyo Build - Verification Failed

Jul 4, 2010

I just bought a rooted Nexus One with a FRF83 build preinstalled. It's been working great but I keep getting messages about installing OTA updates but they always fail (says E: No signature (575 files) E: Verification Failed) I tried manually downloading the FRF85 and FRF91 update, copying as update.zip to my SD updating from the recovery menu but it still gives the same error. From the little info I've found online it may be an issue with the ROM but I can't tell for sure. My ultimate goal would be to go back to stock Android with the latest official Froyo build.

Android :: Storing Data On SD Card In Froyo - Files Deleted When Upgrading

Jul 24, 2010

I have an application which resides on the phone memory but downloads large data to the SD card on first launch (the app needs to be able to work without an internet connection most of the time) When using the recommend directory given in Froyo it seems all files on the SD card are deleted when I install a newer version of the .apk. I'd preferably like the files removed on uninstall, but not on upgrade since the files on the SD card aren't going to change between application versions, and forcing the user to re-download a large file that is independent of the application version does not seem reasonable. At the moment it seems I'm forced to use a different directory to the recommended one in order to stop Froyo deleting all the files when the application is upgraded. Am I doing something wrong, or is this how it is supposed to work (I'm guessing it is)?

HTC EVO 4G :: OTA 3.26.651.6 And Unrevoked 3.21

Sep 29, 2010

I've looked around and it seems that everything is about the current OTA. I have a friend whose running OTA version 3.26.651.6 will Unrevoked 3.21 still work for rooting it? When I rooted (a while ago now) I ran Unrevoked and then Unrevoked Forever, if I want to root his phone + nand unlock, do we still have to run Unrevoked Forever? I read in several threads that you don't need to run it anymore with the update of 3.21, but I'd just like to make sure!

HTC EVO 4G :: Rooted With Unrevoked 3.2 - Not Flashed ROM

Sep 23, 2010

I rooted with Unrevoked 3.2 but I have not flashed a ROM yet. My biggest concerns are that I will loose everything. If I flash the new OTA ROM, do I loose all my settings, like my gmail accounts, checkbook balances, game scores etc? I did (at least I think I did) and Nandoid backup using ROM Manager, confirmed the filename that I chose was on the SD card. Does that mean that if I boot into recovery mode, I should see the file? And can I boot into recovery to verify that it's there and then back out? Sorry for the noobie questions, searching through the forums (which I did) can be very challenging.
