Steve.
I'm actually more disappointed than I am happy with the update. This is just a minor vent, ignore if you don't want to read. I'm coming from Windows Mobile. Having apps running or not, was a simple thing. With android, why does it have to be an annoyance? I understand Android handles programs in the background well esp Froyo. But why does it have to be a pain, esp for the OCD types, when you close apps you don't want running, they just open themselves again? You can go as far as going into the services, and shutting down that service, not only the app, and have that service restart itself. With 2.1, using Advanced Task Killer, the apps were closed and never really opened again. Unless I lost service or something, which for some reason triggers the internet related apps to open again.
Now I did a hard reset earlier hoping to fix some of the problems I'm having. It didn't really help at all. One problem I'm having is, my Evo NEVER sleeps. Currently synchronized at 0:52:xx Up/Awake times, restarted earlier hoping for change. 2.1, I never had this issue. And after hard resetting, I'd think it would be normal as it is the bare OS itself. Didn't work. Downloaded System Panel lite, forced closed some apps, also from settings-applications. Still same results. 2.1, I had a very good standby time when I wasn't using it.............
I don't know a ton about Android but I rooted my wife's EVO using Unrevoked (I think the 2nd rev of Unrevoked) earlier this year. I have been having her ignore the upgrade notice that keeps popping up until now - I'd like to upgrade her to 2.2 so we can have video chat w/ Yahoo Messenger. I downloaded the update and went to install and got the Android guy w/ the Exclamation Mark triangle thing. I've read thru a bunch of posts and it seems like most people recommend either unrooting by various methods then doing OTA update, or flashing a rooted 2.2 ROM.
Most of these posts are a couple months old from when the OTA came out and I was just wondering if there was a better way to go about doing this now that I am not finding. Bascially I want to: Upgrade from rooted 2.1 to rooted, standard Sprint 2.2 without losing any data/apps. Can someone point me to a step-by-step on how to do this or possibly a video walkthrough?
1. I run an application called "lockpicker" which allows me to bypass the Exchange Lock screen, which made me put in a password every time I would turn my phone off, or every time I would shut off the screen (which was VERY annoying). I have had no problems with my work email, connecting to it, or with the exchange lock screen since installing lockpicker. In fact, its like the lock screen doesnt even exist, which I love. I hear that lockpicker is NOT compatible with Froyo 2.2, which makes me extremely nervous about upgrading, because if I have to put in a code every time my phone goes to sleep, I will like the phone a lot less.
2. Google Listen - I use this program to listen to 5-6 podcasts that I subscribe to and I find that while it does have some bugs, its simple and the easiest way I have found to organize my podcasts and listen to them. I hear that this doesnt work anymore with 2.2 either (although I could be wrong).........
If I already upgraded my Droid X Unrooted phone to Froyo 2.2 with an earlier version I assume I will have to roll back to 2.1 to get the automatic update tomorrow. Is there a way to wait for one of the android sites to get the latest version, download it and do the upgrade myself? If I have to roll it back, what is the best way to do it?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just bought a rooted Nexus One with a FRF83 build preinstalled. It's been working great but I keep getting messages about installing OTA updates but they always fail (says E: No signature (575 files) E: Verification Failed) I tried manually downloading the FRF85 and FRF91 update, copying as update.zip to my SD updating from the recovery menu but it still gives the same error. From the little info I've found online it may be an issue with the ROM but I can't tell for sure. My ultimate goal would be to go back to stock Android with the latest official Froyo build.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an application which resides on the phone memory but downloads large data to the SD card on first launch (the app needs to be able to work without an internet connection most of the time) When using the recommend directory given in Froyo it seems all files on the SD card are deleted when I install a newer version of the .apk. I'd preferably like the files removed on uninstall, but not on upgrade since the files on the SD card aren't going to change between application versions, and forcing the user to re-download a large file that is independent of the application version does not seem reasonable. At the moment it seems I'm forced to use a different directory to the recommended one in order to stop Froyo deleting all the files when the application is upgraded. Am I doing something wrong, or is this how it is supposed to work (I'm guessing it is)?

This dire warning was plastered all over the main VZW device forums here recently. As data-wipe is a routine step when flashing a custom ROM, it certainly raised a few eyebrows in xda and other quarters. Now the posts are just gone...
Its a simple question. Do you lose everything when you do a reset? i.e. Pictures, texts and music is my main concern.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI used to have a RAZR flip-phone, and while I love my current phone much more (an AT&T SGS2) I do sometimes miss the option to have the phone beep at you when you lose signal and again when you get it back. I am volunteering every day in West Liberty, KY (which was basically destroyed in Friday's tornadoes) but cell service is down except for small pockets here and there that for some reason get just enough service to send a text or sometimes make a phone call. Anyway, if I could get an app for the SGS2 that would run all the time and notify me when I have lost and regained cell service it would work for me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know when I dumped my Incredible for an EVO, I couldn't just transfer my APPBrain apps to the EVO; I am replacing my current EVO for a new one tomorrow, and I am wondering if I have to find/download all my apps again, or I can just re-sync the new phone once I put AppBrain on it.
View 15 Replies View RelatedMy phone isn't working right. It will randomly restart and get stuck on the white HTC screen. It'll only boot back up after a battery pull. I'm going to reset it to default but I want to know how I can back up all my stuff. I could care less about my applications but I don't want to lose contacts or SMS/MMS records, etc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Nexus 4 and I would like to avoid losing it. I have no problem in spending some money on it, but it must work with/without internet connection (so I can save my phone with an sms if there isn't internet connection).
Actually I found "Locate My Droid" but I noticed there are various apps of this type, so before buying a PRO version I would like to know some well known names where I can choose from.
I've a Lg 2x (Aka Optimus Dual) temasek's UNOFFICIAL BUILD, now i saw an update from temasek. I'm asking how i can install the new room file as a simple update without losing any app/contact etc.
what's the correct way to do an update of a custom Rom ?
If I take out my card will I lose any of it when I put it back in my phone .
View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst happened a few weeks ago. I was sending out a mass text and it forced closed and I lost all my messages. Its been happening ever since every few days randomly when I send a text. Anybody know what the reason for this could be? Its the stock text messaging app.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a question regarding syncing and g mail. I have only had the phone for a few hours, and I love it, but I am a little frustrated. I have setup my Google Mail, Contact, and Calendar and everything works great until I try to delete a goggle mail from my phone. When I delete the msg from the phone, it deletes the msg from the g mail server. I DO NOT want this to happen. I have looked into g mail and the settings, along with the settings on the phone. I have also tried to create filters, and I still have the same results. Is it possible to only do a "one way" sync? I do not want to lose msgs off my g mail. Am I doing something wrong, or am I just missing something?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat is that sticky post about ? How many of us have wiped our phones and NOT lost 3G ? It would be one thing if that post said you "might" lose it, but it says you "will" lose 3G. So not true. Fact is, I did it to my phone yesterday. Twice Guess what I still have ?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy personal phone is the Moto droid (verizon), and I use it for all my personal stuff... gmail, internet browsing, google calendar, personal calls/contacts, etc.
It would be convenient to view my work email (corporate exchange server) on my droid.
If I enable the exchange account on my droid, how much control to I cede to the corporate IT department (I really don't trust them with any of my personal info)?
I heard that they can (also heard that they can't) wipe my phone. Is that true? If so, is it just my corporate/exchange email, or the gmail, personal contacts, google calendar (etc)?
Can they access browser history? Phone logs? personal contacts?
Basically, I'd like to keep my personal and work lives as separate as possible, but it would be easier to carry access my exchange email from that personal device.
Just got my Evo last Fri at Best Buy. Since my wife's line was eligible for the upgrade, I used her upgrade. Best Buy did the swap to get the Evo on my line. However, afterwards, we found that both our saved voicemail msgs got deleted and both our VM mailbox got reset. Had to set a new pwd and greeting.
I called Sprint today and they said that anytime you upgrade to a smartphone, your VM will get reset. Nobody told us this. There's nothing they can do to recover. My wife lost a couple of important msgs and is not very happy.
Anyone else have this happen? Is Sprint's explanation correct? I thought VM would just transfer over.
