Motorola Droid X : Can I Update To A Specific PRL List On Phone?

Nov 27, 2010

I got 2 Droid X's last Saturday. If you hold mine and my wife's side by side (in the house), she gets 3G and 3 to 4 bars, while mine is 1X or lower with no bars 90% of the time.

The folks at my local store did a *228, option 2 on my phone and asked me to the same when I got home. Distance between the store and my house is about 9 miles. I did this. Still no help.

So i looked at my wife's phone and the PRL version on her phone is 65169, the version on mine is 52105. Obviously her list sees better towers or something. Is there any way to get my phone to set at that same version of the PRL list? A way to get a specific PRL on the phone?

I get good reception most everywhere else, but the fact that the exact 2 phones have such vastly different reception in the same place is frustrating.

2.1 Update :: Generic Or Network Specific Update On Phone That Has Been Unlocked?

Nov 2, 2010

I have an X10 Mini that when new was locked to the Orange UK network but I have since unlocked (but not unbranded) it and now use a different network. Which Android 2.1 update will I need? Generic, Orange or the new network provider? If it is the generic one will this also have the benefit of unbranding the phone and getting rid of Orange apps? If it is the Orange upgrade will the phone become locked to their network again and require unlocking again?I need the phone to stay unlocked for the future.

Motorola Droid :: App Update Watch List

Nov 11, 2009

There's a few apps that I have found that look very useful but are currently not compatible with the Droid (or with Android 2.0 as a whole). I thought it would be good to have a thread to track apps that are worth waiting on the update so we can be notified when the one we want is available.aSettings - No coming update mentioned on Market description. User Comments state that BT & GPS features do not work on Droid.Feel free to add any apps you've got your eye on and maybe someone else will have more info on a coming update. But please, let's keep this down to a list of high rated, useful or fun apps that are currently not supported on the Droid, and not a huge list of all apps. That thread has already been started. This thread is to track the release of the updates on 'would be' top-apps for the Droid.

After the update I have noticed several changes, 90% have been welcomed & appreciated.Next thing I know I go to make a call from my contact list and there are zero contacts the really weird part is, if I am texting and filling out the to-whom line, it will automatically populate contacts as if my contact list never vanished it may have been coincidental that this took place the day of the update, but that's where u guys come in.let me know if u have had the same issue.

Motorola Droid X :: Get Google Contacts To Phone List

Jul 19, 2010

So I realized last night that if you make a group in Contacts, that group is created on the Phone Contact List, not in your Google Contacts, and those contacts are then copied to the Phone Contact list. Thus, you can add all the contacts you want to the Phone Contact list, which has the side effect of being able to use the Verizon backup app to make a backup of your contacts.Kind of pointless, but might be useful to people who want to change their default Google account for whatever reason and get some crucial contacts back after a hard reset using Verizon's MyBackup.

General :: Remove Specific App From Play Store List?

Apr 12, 2013

I'd like to know if there's any way I can remove an specific app from the Play Store list, without uninstalling it. Or if there's a way to remove this app from the apps that are checked for updates.

The reason is that I have a Motorola Defy+ and I like the stock music player, which is just fine. There's an update called Tune Wiki which is, in my opinion, pure crap. So in order to install updates of all my other apps I have to install one by one, because I can't choose the option "update all" since it would update the music player too.

Android :: Open Context Menu For Specific Item Of List

Jul 17, 2009

I am using openContextMenu() when someone clicks on an item of a list (not when they long press as usual). The context menu does appear, however, it shows the context menu for the last item that the context menu had appeared. For example, if I long press the item C of the list then the context menu for item C appears, and later if I click on item B, with openContextMenu() the context menu for item C will again appear, not for B that I was expecting. How can I set the current item for which the context menu will appear to be the item of the list the user clicks on? I do have the position from onListItemClick() and I was trying to find a call like setContextMenuItem() or something, but I can't find anything.

Thoughts? I currently only sync 'My Contacts' from gmail to my phone not sure if this matters or not. I don't see an option to sync the other way as I did when using Google Sync on my blackberry.

Motorola Droid :: Contact List - Identifying Incoming Phone Calls

Nov 11, 2009

So I have something like 470 people in my Google Contacts under "All Contacts" and only about 60 under "My Contacts." I like it that way, because then my Droid contact list isn't full to the brim with people whose numbers I really don't need at the touch of my fingertips. That being said, however, it would be very cool if somehow the "All Contacts" section of my Google Contacts could be used to identify incoming phone calls.

For instance:
I want my Brother's phone number in My Contacts so I can call him.
I don't want my ex girlfriend's Stacey's number in My Contacts because I don't need to call her.
I still have my ex-girlfiend's contact info under "All Contacts" because there's no reason to delete it outright.
I would, however, like for my Droid's caller ID to tell me that the person calling me is "Stacey" instead of "unknown caller."

Am I asking too much? I know I could just add everyone to "My Contacts" and that would work, I just don't necessarily want 500 people in my Droid phone book. It's unnecessary. Or even apps that do this?

Motorola Droid X :: Contact List Customization - Show Only Added Phone Numbers

Sep 12, 2010

I am still in the process of learning and customizing this phone so there may be a famous app that takes care of this but I did a search and found nothing. I am not a big fan of how the contact list shows friends from facebook/gmail/Phone. I only want it to show contacts that I have personally added on my phone. Is there a way I can arrange this. I have it to where it remembers phone contacts only when I hit contacts but as soon as restart, it goes right back to all contacts. It also comes up when I try to text someone or in the contact section of the dialer. I just dont like this. I don't mind that they are there, persay, but I don't want it to be default all the time. Is there a way to change this?

HTC Droid Eris :: Left Off Android 2.2 Update List?

Jun 15, 2010

Android 2.2 (Froyo) is official and impressive This one doesnt come as much of a surprise, but its huge news. The newest version of Android Froyo, as in frozen yogurt was officially announced, despite the fact that weve known about it and its features for some time know. The big take-aways are that it is scary fast (2-5x faster than Android 2.1 for CPU-bound activity), browser Javascript performance is 2-3x faster than 2.1, there is a new data backup API, Android is more enterprise-friendly than ever, and app errors are now reported back to developers for better tracking and improving their apps in the future. The SDK was updated and devices get WiFi tethering as well. All told, its a big step forward for Android.Google I/O has revealed what looks to be the final list of handsets getting Froyo, they include:
Motorola Droid
Google Nexus One
Droid Incredible
HTC Desire
HTC Evo 4G
myTouch Slide
HTC has also suggested that all HTC phones launched in 2010 would get Android 2.2, and that launch dates for the updates would be released on a per phone basis. Most, if not all those updates will occur in the second half of this year. The upgrade to Froyo is desirable for all Android smartphones due to speed increases, updated APIs and services, the V8 Javascript engine, and new features in Android Market.I went to the HTC website and filled in a tech support request pleading that they update the Eris to 2.2 as with its slower processor it could use the speed increase more than newer phones can.

General :: Make A Specific App Never Update?

Jun 12, 2014

I would like to know if there is a way to stop a specific applicaiton from updating. (that is not the disable automatic updates and manually update)

Some applications are frequently updated, and eventually you can reach a point where you have many programs wanting to update, and then 1 or 2 programs which you never want to update because the developer decided to remove a feature for no reason, or made a change that breaks compatibility with some devices.

Overall, I would like to be able to use the "Update All" button without having to worry about it updating the 1 or 2 applications that I never want updated.

Android :: Way To Install A Specific Version Of Droid On Phone For Testing?

Sep 20, 2010

My boss recently gave me an HTC Wildfire phone for doing an Android version of one of our mobile apps, which is all fine and good, except that the app requires API level 8 (ie Android 2.2), and the phone itself only has Android 2.1 installed. After much googling, I discovered that this phone does support Android 2.2, and carriers will be rolling out updates over the air for this model phone "in the near future". Since I'm not entirely certain what our lazy carrier's definition of "near future" is, it would be nice if I could download images for particular releases and install them on my phone. Coming from the world of the iPhone, it seems that this should be something rather necessary in order to successfully develop an Android app. Yet, it doesn't seem that Google offers any Android OS updates themselves. Have I no choice but to wait for the carrier to release an update?

Motorola Droid : Caller Specific Ringtone Not Always Working / How To Fix?

Also, the last call didn't even have her Caller ID or photo... just the phone number... it's like it didn't recognize she was a contact at all? The only thing I can think of was I was using the music player when she called... is is possibly the "cut-in" that caused the disconnect? Don't know, but I've tried to duplicate it, and it reverts back to "normal" every time I try.

Motorola Droid : How Do You Deny Specific System Access

Nov 13, 2009

I installed the Nimbuzz app today. It has system access to prevent the phone from sleeping. Which really sucks because I can't leave it running in the background so I stay logged on. If I keep the Nimbuzz services running then The display won't time out on inactivity. If you close the services then You can't get the incoming chats.

Is there away to deny certain access to apps but allow the rest and install it? From my experience I've only seen that it's all or nothing.
