I wish to send a list of type <MyFriend> from one activity to another. I dont find a bundle.put...... for such an requirement in the api's. Is there a way somebody could suggest through which I could transfer different kinds of data.

I am trying to extend the "android.content.Intent" class by adding a private attribute of a custom class. My goal is to send complex objects from the main Activity to a background Service.
The extension itself is not a problem, the class gets compiled without any errors and the project runs. The only problem is that the BroadcastReceiver does not receive the modified Intent and the "onReceive" method gets never called.
It there any way to pass complex objects with the help of Intents?
Why is that the object has to be serialized or be Parcelable in order to be passed to an Intent ?

However, for some odd reason my code that is responsible for setting up the buttons individually for each widget id is not working, only the first widget id is linked to each individual widget. MyObject has 1 field i want to display, "Name" (i.e. data[0].Name )
How can i turn this into an activity that lists just the name of these objects in a scrollable listActivity in android. I am getting really confused with Cursors and am not sure if I need Cursors and I"m not sure what kind of adapter to implement (baseAdapter, SimpleAdapter etc)

Now, I have map locations that are dynamically generated and drawn on the map at run-time to visualize some streams, Up to this point the application is working fine, Now my problem is that I am trying to filter the objects ( addresses) to visualize only the on-screen ones. I do NOT want to visualize the addresses that are off-screen. The way I am trying to do this is to check the screen-coordinates of each object (address) before visualizing it, then it the coordinates (x,y) more than (0,0) and less than (320, 460). I should visualize it. I am trying to use this approach, but it is not working for some reasons, I have tried many posts but could not understand why, there must be something missing somewhere that I am not aware of.

The context menu does appear, however, it shows the context menu for the last item that the context menu had appeared. For example, if I long press the item C of the list then the context menu for item C appears, and later if I click on item B, with openContextMenu() the context menu for item C will again appear, not for B that I was expecting. How can I set the current item for which the context menu will appear to be the item of the list the user clicks on? I do have the position from onListItemClick() and I was trying to find a call like setContextMenuItem() or something, but I can't find anything.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got 2 Droid X's last Saturday. If you hold mine and my wife's side by side (in the house), she gets 3G and 3 to 4 bars, while mine is 1X or lower with no bars 90% of the time.
The folks at my local store did a *228, option 2 on my phone and asked me to the same when I got home. Distance between the store and my house is about 9 miles. I did this. Still no help.
So i looked at my wife's phone and the PRL version on her phone is 65169, the version on mine is 52105. Obviously her list sees better towers or something. Is there any way to get my phone to set at that same version of the PRL list? A way to get a specific PRL on the phone?
I get good reception most everywhere else, but the fact that the exact 2 phones have such vastly different reception in the same place is frustrating.
I'd like to know if there's any way I can remove an specific app from the Play Store list, without uninstalling it. Or if there's a way to remove this app from the apps that are checked for updates.
The reason is that I have a Motorola Defy+ and I like the stock music player, which is just fine. There's an update called Tune Wiki which is, in my opinion, pure crap. So in order to install updates of all my other apps I have to install one by one, because I can't choose the option "update all" since it would update the music player too.

I have had androids for over two years now and am getting more and more concerned every time I download an app and seeing that it wants to READ my SMS message and Contacts.
Is there a way I can disable reading of SMS messages or any one of the other permissions by specific apps, or all apps?
Are we living in a world where any "joe schmo" can upload an app the to the app store and wait for those inadvertent downloads and collect all your personal information, and that's after all the time we spend protecting our identity and personal details?
I am new to Android development. I want to know how you all manage objects. For eg we make object as A a = new A(); and then manage that object. But, here, we call A.class; My concern is that i don't want to call on Create(),nor do i want to push UI screen I just want to make 1 static object for 1 screen;and want to manage it throughout my application. that is, instead of calling A.class; can i call A a = new A(),and manage that object without pushing,and whenever i need i push that screen. Each broadcast Intent is identical except that it contains a Bundle with some result information from the IntentService. Evidently, having different data in the Bundle is not enough for Android to think it's a different Intent. If the IntentService broadcasts two of these Intents back-to-back, the second one is dropped as a duplicate.
I know I've read about this behavior in this forum in the past but I can't find in the documentation where this duplicate elimination logic is described in detail. Mostly, I just want to differentiate the Intents enough that they are not considered duplicates. Any pointers would be appreciated.

I have a auto-complete textbox in which the user makes a selection. From here I want to load a tabbed layout which is based on the user selection. The problem is I cant figure out a clean way to pass that selection to each of the tabs. At the moment I can pass an intent to the 'tabhost' activity and then pass to each child activity explicitly, however this just seems like messy iterative code to me! So basically how can I pass my intent data bundles to the tabs activities cleanly & efficiently! Psuedo code is also very welcome.

Currently, I can do this with one intent, add extra data to it (strings, but i send them as one string with a seperator), and everything works fine and goes off at the correct time. However, when I try to send multiple intents like this, they are overwritten and only one goes off at the correct time. How can i structure my intents so that they appear different to the alarmmanager (i think they are getting deleted when filterIntent() is run).
long story short- putExtra() makes all the intents look the same still... how can i make them look different so they wont get deleted (and keep track of them in case i want to delete a specific one)
Is there a way to pass an Array List of objects between activities? The myObject implements Parcelable and I'm able to successfully pass the objects around individually, but that means I need to have an exact amount of "myObjects" coded. I want this to dynamically grow/shrink by what the user does with the app. I have seen some posts on the web about doing:
Activity A
ArrayList<myObject> myObjArray = new ArrayList<myObject>();
Then when passing this into the intent I would use:
intent.putParcelableArrayListExtra("myObjArray", myObjArray);
Activity B
ArrayList<myObject> myObjArray = new ArrayList<myObject>();
Bundle extras = getIntent().getExtras(); myObjArray = extras.getParcelableArray("myObjArray");
However, the myObjArray always gets filled with "null". How can I achieve this?
I want to pass an object from Activity B to Activity A. Scenario:
- Activity A calls Activity B
- User selects item in Activity B
- Activity B passes an object to Activity A

I am new to this android stuff and SQLlite etc.I am going to log some numbers at a certain interval, and will put them into a dynamic histogram, by dynamic i mean that there will be a maximum number of samples in the histogram, the histogram and age stuff should be persisted either in db or plain file.For simplicity, I would like the samples to be stored in a blob type datafield, but i cannot se if this is possible. Alternative i could have another table with the samples Or I could simply have files with filename = name and content = samples.my concern might be unclear by now, but put simply, what is most effecient regarding power usage?
