Android :: Application Widget - How To Manage Updates?

Nov 8, 2009

In the process of creating an AppWidget which displays data from a remote host, I am looking for documentation about how to manage updates. Are there articles somewhere about how and when querrying remote data is the most appropriate? I am wondering if we have to explicitly code the remote queries in a separate thread, or even do it in a separate service, to avoid freezes of the home screen (this happens a lot on my htc magic).

Motorola Droid :: Need To Manage Downloads

Feb 20, 2010

Motorola Droid: On my downloads, I cant find a way to store them into my phone (I can view them), the way I view them through my browser, then pressing the "menu" button, and then "more" and then "downloads", and I view them like that. I also need to know how to rename them. I cant figure this out. I am not talking about my apps or widgets, when I say downloads.

I mean actual downloads. I tried going through my computer, and creating a folder to drag and drop into a new folder for easier access but apparently I cant create a folder that I can put on my home screen of my droid. I want to be able to put them into a folder on my homescreen and have them be viewable at my fingertips, instead of having to go through all those steps.

Motorola Droid X :: Change - Use This As Default - Setting For An Action - Not Under Manage Apps

Jul 19, 2010

I was using the facebook app and clicked a youtube video link and decided to make youtube the default app to launch for this specific action. However, I later decided that I want it to launch the link in a browser (so I can read comments) instead of playing instantly after clicking the link.

I tried "Clear defaults" under settings>applications>manage applications but there is no settings for youtube. I tried to clear defaults for facebook and my browser, and tried reinstalling the facebook app but no luck.

Motorola Droid :: How Do I Prevent OTA Updates?

Sep 18, 2010

I'm rooted and I manually installed 2.2 a few weeks ago, but a couple times a week I get a notification I have a system update. If I hit install later, it keeps popping up like every hour or something like that. If I try to install it, it just says installation failed. Is there a way to completely block OTA updates so I don't have to be annoyed with this anymore?

Motorola Droid :: How To Disable OTA Updates?

Sep 8, 2010

As soon as the 2.2 update was leaked for the Droid, I downloaded it and applied it to my phone, rather than keep waiting for Verizon to push it out weeks later. The update process went smoothly, and I have been running Froyo for a couple weeks now.

The problem is, now my phone bugs me with the OTA update notification constantly, and the only options I have are to install, or install later. I have no option to decline the update. Is there any way to tell android to stop attempting to apply the OTA update? I am surprised it is even trying, as its already running 2.2 so why would it still try and update? If it matters, I have rooted my Droid.

Motorola Droid :: ROM Manager And ClockworkMod - Updates

Jun 23, 2010

To try ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery because it is "obviously superior" in every way, shape and form. So, why so many updates ... especially for CwMod? And why does it seem that every other "update" causes something to break? And why is it that every time I tap on "Reboot into Recovery", it NEVER works. I have yet to have it boot into Recovery even once. It reboots, and that's it. O joy. I have the 'Boot Control' widget that boots into recovery each and every time, without fail.

So far, I'm not too awfully impressed. Sure I see the added functionality. But I'm also experiencing more than my share of FAIL.

Motorola Droid :: Can I Download Updates Automatically

Dec 22, 2009

I always like to have all my apps updated to the latest release and because of this I go to the Market->Downloads and checks for available updates about four times a day. Usually there's always updates sitting there. The hassle is when there's so many to go through them all and and install them.

Is there any app out there that can go through and constantly check for updates and install them automatically?

If not then I'm hoping someone can make one. It seems like a pretty simple thing to make. Then again I'm not a Dev so what do I know?

Motorola Droid :: Duplicate Updates In Android Market

Dec 12, 2009

Is anyone else getting what appears to be duplicate update notifications in the market? This has been happening to me for the last 2 days for Astro File Manager, and Panda Home.I have the latest versions installed.Yet the market tells me there's an update available. When I look at the version number of the update, it's the same as what I have and when I install it, the version numbers wind up being the same.Is this really an issue, or are the authors really throwing new apk's up there with the same version number? Or is there some 'minor' version number they're updating that isn't visible to me, and there really are small tweaks in the update?Curious if anyone has seen multiple updates for these in the last few days, and whether anyone knows what's really going on.

So I was going to update to Froyo manually when I noticed that my 'check for system updates' is disabled in the about phone menu. I can only think of two reasons:
1. I'm rooted (doesn't seem likely)
2. I'm roaming but still on 3g (This would be annoying as I have to drive 20 miles to verizon towers)Any ideas? On a separate note maybe this is an advantage.I'm new to the Android platform and have heard of issues upgrading to 2.2. Maybe I should just wait until Moto puts out the patch?
