I'm rooted and I manually installed 2.2 a few weeks ago, but a couple times a week I get a notification I have a system update. If I hit install later, it keeps popping up like every hour or something like that. If I try to install it, it just says installation failed. Is there a way to completely block OTA updates so I don't have to be annoyed with this anymore?

This is my first post on this board and I wanted to express a great deal of thanks to everyone for the wealth of information avaiable.I recently rooted my EVO and installed Myn's 2.2 ROM which I am extremely happy with.There is NO CHANCE I would have done this without all the great info here.I have looked for this information and am a bit overwhelmed - this is the first phone I've rooted, so I am proceeding extremely carefully with all the things I do with it.I can't seem to find a definitive answer how to prevent OTA updates entirely.I'm not even sure I have to worry about it since I have a new ROM installed.The last thing I want to have happen is to wake up some morning and suddenly my phone is unrooted with a new version of Sprint's ROM. I am perfectly happy waiting for custom ROMs to come out with feature changes (for example, Gingerbread). If I never see an OTA update prompt again, and I can be sure it won't apply itself without my intervention, I'll be happy as a clam.

Simple question about Moto Droid Update to 2.1 truly blocking rooting after this OTA update. Will this block my un-rooted Driod so that I cannot root later after I finish some learning about rooting in the next couple of weeks? If it will I would like to root before IF that is necessary.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIt may seem crazy, but I have an app that I use for business purposes (ustream). They do not support 2.2. I emailed them and they quickly responded with grim news. Basically, they don't know if/when they will support Froyo. Qik vid doesn't do what I need it to do. Also, I hear there are many other apps that won't work with froyo. As good a an improvement Froyo is, it prevents me from doing what I do. Any way to prevent update and update reminders?

there's a few processes that are always running, that turn themselves on, which i infrequently use. a couple examples are Voice Search and Skype, which when I ended processes for, freed up a significant amount of memory and 4 processes. I'd like to be able to set them up something akin to what windows will do, where they are on manual startup, and only start when app is called on. I still want to use the apps, just don't want background processes running constantly.
I want the screen to stay awake in the car dock even when its NOT charging. Both of my power outlets are broken, so I cant charge it while driving. Kinda bothers me that the screen wont stay on. I tried running a stopwatch in the background, but she timed out anyway.

I know I will more than likely not find what I am looking for because the slide out keyboard is a selling point for this phone, but mine keeps sliding out in my pocket and I am concerned that the open portion of the keyboard might bend, flex or crack if it is bent the wrong way. View 2 Replies View RelatedAs soon as the 2.2 update was leaked for the Droid, I downloaded it and applied it to my phone, rather than keep waiting for Verizon to push it out weeks later. The update process went smoothly, and I have been running Froyo for a couple weeks now.
The problem is, now my phone bugs me with the OTA update notification constantly, and the only options I have are to install, or install later. I have no option to decline the update. Is there any way to tell android to stop attempting to apply the OTA update? I am surprised it is even trying, as its already running 2.2 so why would it still try and update? If it matters, I have rooted my Droid.
I heard that I can tell my droid to do automatic updates when ever an app needs it. I have searched for where I can adjust that setting but I have found nothing. Can someone point me in the right direction?

To try ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery because it is "obviously superior" in every way, shape and form. So, why so many updates ... especially for CwMod? And why does it seem that every other "update" causes something to break? And why is it that every time I tap on "Reboot into Recovery", it NEVER works. I have yet to have it boot into Recovery even once. It reboots, and that's it. O joy. I have the 'Boot Control' widget that boots into recovery each and every time, without fail.
So far, I'm not too awfully impressed. Sure I see the added functionality. But I'm also experiencing more than my share of FAIL.
I have two quick questions.
If I forced the 2.0.1 update, will I still get the OTA Update for 2.1?
And the other, if I upgrade to 2.1, will the rooting procedure still work should I want to?
At one point I managed to get the market Place to identify whether there were updates available to the apps I've downloaded to my Droid. I can't work out how I got to that list. Anyone know?
If not through the Market Place, is that an app that will check for updates for me?
I always like to have all my apps updated to the latest release and because of this I go to the Market->Downloads and checks for available updates about four times a day. Usually there's always updates sitting there. The hassle is when there's so many to go through them all and and install them.
Is there any app out there that can go through and constantly check for updates and install them automatically?
If not then I'm hoping someone can make one. It seems like a pretty simple thing to make. Then again I'm not a Dev so what do I know?
I'm having an issue with my Droid. I unrooted my phone from 2.2 because I ran tests on it and found that it is not running as well as it should be. I went to 2.1 and then found out that it was still rooted so my brother and I unrooted again down to stock 2.0.1. Now my phone will not receive the OTA so I can upgrade to stock 2.1. Does anyone know why it won't receive the update?
