Motorola Droid :: How To Rename Folders - No Option?
Sep 23, 2010
I just realized that you can add folders to the home screens by long pressing an empty space, then choosing folders. There are options to add New Folder, All contacts, etc. After adding a new folder and dragging app shortcuts, I can't seem to figure out how to rename the folders from the default "Folder" name.

On the inc when you go to add icons you can add folders. I started a new folder and put some of the inactive games I'm really not playing at the moment. Currently I see no way to rename the folder... Anyone know how to rename folders?

I've added a folder onto the homescreen and added direct message contacts to it, which is exactly what i wanted, better than the HTC People widget for me. How do you rename the folder? Because I'd like to call it texts and set one up for calls. But when I create another folder, it is again called "folder". So you can't differentiate between the two.

I run Android SDK and AVD Manager in Vista and have problems installing components. The installer downloads components successfully, but at the end of the installation it hangs for about minute and then asks to disable AV software. If I choose 'No', the installer stops with error message like: "Filed to rename directory '...' to '...' ". Thus, I have to unpack downloaded components and place them to proper folders manually. I have no AV software.

I'm assuming this is the easiest thing in the world. I just can't figure it out. I have 2 POP email accounts and I'm looking to delete several messages without having to click on the X next to each one. How can I delete ALL the emails in a certain folder (inbox, trash, sent, etc...)

Can I rename icons on the Droid X? For instance, I have an application shortcut named 'Email' on a screen that is actually my 'Work Email' and I would like to rename it to that. Is there a way to do this?

I keep seeing posts about disabling the OTA capability on a rooted Droid, and about how I can rename .apk files to .bak or something like that. It all sounds SO wonderful, and Id LOVE to do it, but HOW do I do it? I need it explained to me, preferably to where I can do it from my Emulator on the actual phone, if possible.

Can anyone tell me the names of Twitter and any other apps new to 2.2 that I can remove via renaming to .bak? I'm about to root to get some of these icons off (or is there a command I can execute in terminal that will list them?)

If you opened this up, you know what this is. Trying to rename the .zip to disable OTA and Root Explorer says that it's "read only". I am half tempted to just delete the file, but needed to ask first.

I usually view email with attachments from my pc because I usually lack the time to download the attachment. Today, I had some spare time so I tried to download an attachment. It downloaded fine but when I went to view it, I received a pop-up box to save it to the sd card. After pressing ok, I was told the save was successful but now I can't find it. Aside from pics and videos, how do I access other folders with saved data?

I have a Droid X running Froyo. It's rooted. I really want to organize all my apps into folders but lately different folders have been refusing to open. I click on them and they just don't open. Sometimes it's all of them and sometimes it's just one. If I restart it usually fixes the problem but sometimes I just have to wait for a bit. This is very annoying. I'm not using an alternative launcher or anything. Just the regular Motorola Droid X OS. Just rooted. Any ideas guys? Please let me know. I really want to get things organized again.

Is there a way to view all (or at least more) of the SD folders on my PC via USB connection? The only ones I can access are those I created on the PC (except for DCIM). I like to retain extra backups of everything, so I'd like to back up my apps, bookmarks, etc to the PC where they are backed up to another drive.
I compared the owner, group and permissions of the PC-created folders vs the Droid X backup folders and they're the same. And I have the option to show hidden files selected on the PC. Do I have to remove/read from the card itself to access these folders?

My issue revolves around trying to use apps like the default files app preinstalled on the Droid X, Astro File Manger, or Estrong File Explorer. For some reason when I move files from folder to folder or copy and paste files into different folders the actual files appear to be there but when I go into the actual applications where the files should be they aren't there.
Example: I had put a few self made ringtones and notifications onto my SD Card via the USB cable that came with the droid from my computer to my Droid X. I made a seperate Media folder on the Card and put sub folders in that like I was supposed to. All the correct files appeared where they should once I disconnected and looked on my phone. New ringtones were in the ringtone directory through accessing them through settings, notifications where there, etc. Now when I try moving one of my ringtones into my notifications folder via, Astro file manager or Estrong File Explorer or the files app that came with the Droid X is moves the files into the folder and you can see it moved by actually viewing it in the folder you just moved it to. But when I go into my settings, notifications tones and look for the file I just moved there...it's not there for me to select, but it is when I look at my file manager. I've tried this in the music folder, ringtone folder and notifications folder and they don't appear in the actual applications where I moved them to, but they appear in the file manager as being there. Am I doing something wrong. I don't understand why this is happening.

I have a particular folder titled "vacation", where I have all my photos from each individual place I've been. I've also downloaded the application "File Cover" [but we'll get back to that later] So the "Vacation" folder has individual sub folders: NY, Miami, Beijing, Canada...etc. When I pull them up in gallery, all the photos show up together. I dont, however want my Beijing folder to show up because it has photos from inportant artifacts and whatnot I dont want everyone to see. I downloaded "File Cover" to hide and password protect them. But they still show up in the gallery in small thumbnails, even though they are locked.
