Anyone else notice that the space key on the hard-keyboard is indented, or is this something wrong with mine? I like the keyboard in general, but the space is really annoying. The other keys are all essentially flat, or very slightly curved upwards. The space though is really pretty depressed inwards. I don't think it's worn out, as I really haven't used it much yet.

I come from the iPhone world, and I thought having a physical keyboard would be nicer. I don't know if it's because I got used to the iPhone, but so far I'm not thrilled with that keyboard, it's too easy to make mistakes and it's not comfortable.
One thing I noticed is that when you use the soft keyboard, it corrects you automatically and offers you suggestions as you type. How can I get the same features when using the hard physical keyboard?

Didn't think a whole lot about coming from an Eris it was nothing i wasn't used to.Well when i pulled the battery and went on the market place, i noticed the Keyboard wasn't lighting up.Then i noticed even the front facing buttons were lighting up, now mind you i'm sitting in a rather dark room with my laptop watching a movie so it def should have lit up.I've reset the phone a few times now and still no backlighting and i don't know what settings they are under.

My question is this. When you push the voice-to-text button does it pop up a window like earlier versions of Swype or does it do the really fast and slick thing that the multi touch keyboard does (just replace the keyboard with the audio waveform thing).

Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

Bugs:

1. Writing keyboard layout map file.
2. Writing Key Character Map to support "multiple letters per key". ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had my Captivate for a few weeks now. I've noticed since day one that the search button 'hard button' on the lower right of the phone, mysteriously 'pressed itself'. The first few times I figured I pushed it on accident with my pinky or something. That Is Not The Case. I know I'm not going crazy but every once in awhile, the hard button lights will go on and the vibrate (I have vibrate set to on) will go on and the search will pop up. All on it's own. This happens at least 5 times a day. If not more. It doesn't do it on any one specific page, it does it no matter what I'm doing on my phone. Sometimes I'll literally watch it just laying in my hand when my phone is on and the search will pop up.

Since Bing is the search engine of choice on the Fascinate, what function will holding down the button serve? Will it still allow Google Voice commands? If not, I think that's a deal breaker for me.

I am coming from an iPhone where I could type like crazy quick on there. I can do the same on the Evo and love the bigger keys but for some reason the poisitioning of the space bar is killing me.
Using Chevy 7 slot LV 1250. I have flashed my fair share of ROMS the past few days, but after a 3 time total wipe (consecutive) and a nandroid restore from a few days ago when it was very stable. My only suspects are a re-downloaded FB app and Dialer One. I am thinking of doing the 0.9 update.zip for good measure.
