Motorola Droid :: Droid Bricked Itself / Un-Brick?
Jan 17, 2010
I've been searching for about two hours, and not found the answer I'm looking for(Probably missed it in my frustration).Today my Droid decided to reboot itself..and went directly to the Bootloader.I've tried everything..Factory reset(Which seems to fail)..redoing the 2.0.1 update(Which says there is an error in the .zip every time)..formatting the SD card.Best I get is once in a while it will boot up like a spanking new Droid-Exexpt the wireless radio does not function-no way to enable the network..but wifi works. To get it to fire upo I have to Format the SD card everytime.
I know there are recovery images/2.1 images out there.. Just how to flash them into the phone? The bootloader says ready to program..Again, I most likely missed the how-to, and a lot of the links to the files needed are broken anyhow.

milestone bought in china (where there is no official release) hence it's a grey import phone was flashed (w/out my knowledge) with a custom chinese language rom, hence im assuming it was rooted i manually flashed with rds lite back to an official hong kong moto rom (2.0.1) so i could get english language back at this point still wasnt aware the phone had been rooted so did a straight flash without un-rooting and it worked fine a few days in i changed sim cards in my phone and things started acting odd. phone froze a little but came back on put in pocket and when i pulled it out again it wouldnt boot up - only backlight would light - no splashscreen, no moto logo, no nothing did batt pulls, recharges and still nothing - the screen wont even blink (cept backlight).i'm assuming that this may have something to do with the fact that i didnt unroot the phone before i put the stock rom back on the phone? is there anywhere back from this situation? i tried to connect adb to my phone to try to get into recovery but adb cant see the device...yet rds lite can when i boot with power+dpad up. so the phone is still in there somewhere! ive installed all the moto drivers but of course, am not sure my phone is set to debug mode as i cant access the system perhaps that why i cant see it.
needless to say, i have no sprecovery or anything installed as i hadnt realised the phone was rooted earlier (my stupid oversight....) sigh the only other person that displayed similar problems i found is on this thread - cept he eventually could access adb as he knew what he was doing previous to installing a stock rom over a custom one Only seeing black screen; your help is needed! - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum, before any of you tell me to take it back to verizon...i cant, as its not from verizon and there is no refund as its a grey import. the repair shop here in SH cant work out a way to fix it either....my last hope is here so pls let me know what i can do!

Ok, my friend gave me his Droid and I'm trying to reboot it to its original OS. Its bricked and my computer isn't reading the phone when I hook it up. I'm going in circles trying to find out what can it be. I don't know what else to do. Should I give it back or can I fix this bricked phone?

So if my phone becomes a paper weight after the OTA rolls out then Verizon did it on purpose right? You can't tell me they can't force the OTA to override the leaked version. I would think they would force all the phones to update to their version of the OS. Therefore, if my phone bricks after the OTA then they are just being jerks right?

I got my Dad's old Motorola Fire XT530 recently. The thing is, he used the phone for around 2 weeks and then switched to a BlackBerry. He kept the phone switched off and locked up in his office bag. I fished it out yesterday and tried to switch it on, but it wouldn't even switch on. I connected it to the wall outlet and left out there for a while. The screen never turned on, but the lights on the soft keys below the screen did light up, so I assumed that it must be charging.
Anyway, after a while, I removed it from the outlet and switched it on, but it wouldn't boot up at all. Then I tried getting it into recovery and download mode, but it just wouldn't turn on at all. The device wasn't rooted, and I don't know what could have gone wrong that would make it like this.
I want to start developing for this device, seeing as there isn't even a decent ROM for this. I don't want to send it to the Motorola service centre; I have issues with them as it is.

I just got an "Engineering Prototype" of a phone that looks like a Cliq XT.
It worked fine when I got it - as far as I can tell, it had a stock 1.5 installed - no Motoblur-Rom.The guy that owned it before didn't delete all of his personal stuff so i decided to do a factory reset. Turned out to be a bad idea
When I try to turn on the phone I can see a Motorola-Logo for about 1/10th of a second. After that the screen turns black (it doesn't turn off, the backlight is still on).Pressing the Camera-Button whil turning it on leads me to a little menu:
- Volume up -> "USB Flash Mode" (That seems to work)
- Volume down -> "Recovery Mode" (That does not seem to work since the screen goes black when I try that)
I installed the USB-Drivers provided by Motorola and tried to connect to the phone via RSDlite - nothing seems to work
I managed to root/unlock several devices and installed custom recoverys and custom roms to several of my phones. I don't know that much about the stuff that makes Android going. That means that I can click buttons if i have a red arrow pointing at them...

I tried to install a Bootanimation with bootanimation.zip When i turned on the phone, it keeps loading the Sprint 4G splash screen...So i just went to the Recovery screen and re-flashed the Damagecontrol 3.2.3, and it still just stays at the Sprint 4g slash page. I can get into the recovery screen which has ROM Manager. Did I screw something up thats too deep internally?

I was just talking to someone about bricking mobile devices and I couldn't even think of how I could accidentally brick my own phone. Couldn't you always just go into recovery and wipe/reflash? Unless there was a way to stop you from getting into recovery but I don't see how.I'm not an expert and I've learned everything I know from reading here and on XDA so I could be missing something.

Running Incredible with Froyo. I rooted using Unrevoked3, but I forgot to make the nandroid backup, I guess. the LCD Changer app has my reboot looping. After the very first HTC Incredible screen it goes totally white and I just hear the "Droid" voice(plays when the red droid eye comes up on screen normally" nothing but white and the voice just repeats after the screen flashes every minute or so. Tried applying the update.zip that was linked to on the developers blog, but no luck. Any ideas? I even tried resetting to factory defaults, formatted everything, basically. Lost a great of data, I'm afraid, but I just want my phone back.

I updated a few apps yesterday afternoon, I can't remember all of them but Open Home was one of them. I turned my phone off when I got to work and when I turned it back on it would not go past the Android loading screen. T-Mobile had me reset back to the default setting so I lost all my apps and such. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem after updating an app recently.I don't want to download the app again if its broken.

My Galaxy S4 GT-I9506 is bricked with this error:
image 1 (attached)
It doesn't go to recovery mode anymore now!!!
First I tried to install custom Rom to root it with Odin, it did seem fine with "green pass" but didn't actually install any recovery mode (there wasn't any install option in recovery mode, there were only update options), nothing happened to phone at all and it worked normal.
Second i wiped the phone and cache and I download the firmware from Samsung website.
and after try to install, it failed in Odin:
Images 2 & 3 (attached)
I'm not sure but I think it was a wrong firmware, because I bought my phone online (kogan.com i think it is in Hongkong) and I downloaded the Australia Vodafone firmware (as I'm using Vodafone sim card).
I should mention that phone doesn't go to recovery mode, failed in Odin, Kies can not fix it! the drivers all are up to date and no Antivirus runs in my PC.

Yes you read it right I want to know how I can brick my phone or make it stop working completely. Now let me explain the reason why. I had installed an app called "Launcher Pro". Later I uninstalled it and that is when all hell broke lose. Basically when ever I would swipe my screen to unlock the phone, I would get constant error messages that would reappear the moment I would close them, and to make matters worse it would lock out the rest of the screen so I can not click any thing else (just like in windows vista and windows 7 when a UAC message pops up). This is further complicated by the fact that I have a Bell Canada Samsung Galaxy Phone, which does not have the 3 button recovery ability but that is not the end of my problems. I got this phone at a store called Best Buy and got their warranty. Now one of the things that voids the warranty is unlocking the phone, guess what?? My phone is unlocked. So since my phone is not dead, it boots up, the lock screen loads up, the top bar shows u the battery life and the fact it is getting service and can receive calls (but which I can not answer since when it comes to that screen, the screen freezes up with the error messages). So if I take the phone to Best Buy, they are going to pop in a different sim other then bell and when they see that it works, will hand me back my phone and void my warranty. So I need to have the phone in such a condition that they can not check that and yes there can be no physical or water damage either. How do I accomplish this?

I tried the MAK-DROID rom (thread) and it works great, but MAK-DROID didn't have the language pt-br (portuguese from Brazil). So I found the Aspire Rom (thread) and I give a try... and thats was a bad idea.
Now my fone even boot. It freezes on "GT-S5300 SAMSUNG" and vibrate a several times.
So, I boot on recovery and apply CWM again. On CWM I applied the MAK-DROID again, but didn't work.
After that I tried restore the my stock backup done with CWM. But even this didn't work. I received a message about EXTFS (or something like that) and impossibility of format the /system.
My final thought was try with Odin. So I follow the post #8 from MAK-DROID thread. I downlod the Odin and the S5300XXLF5 firmware. I open Odin and selected on PDA the *.tar.md5 file. But I received:
<ID:0/004> Added!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> S5300XXLF5_S5300BTULF1_S5300XXLF5_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
[code]...
So I tried again, this time with the pit file (S5300_coriemmc_0117.pit) on PIT option (when I select the pit file, automatically the option "Re-partition" is checked) and the *.tar.md5 file on PDA option. But I received:
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> S5300XXLF5_S5300BTULF1_S5300XXLF5_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
[code]...
I still have access to CWM (the update.zip is accessible from recovery).
