Samsung Galaxy S :: Can Lagfix Brick My Phone?
Nov 2, 2010
I have a Samsung Galaxy S phone and am wondering if the lagfix can brick my phone. Are there only one method of doing the Lagfix? If there are more than one, are there any that doesn't risk getting the phone bricked?

Yes you read it right I want to know how I can brick my phone or make it stop working completely. Now let me explain the reason why. I had installed an app called "Launcher Pro". Later I uninstalled it and that is when all hell broke lose. Basically when ever I would swipe my screen to unlock the phone, I would get constant error messages that would reappear the moment I would close them, and to make matters worse it would lock out the rest of the screen so I can not click any thing else (just like in windows vista and windows 7 when a UAC message pops up). This is further complicated by the fact that I have a Bell Canada Samsung Galaxy Phone, which does not have the 3 button recovery ability but that is not the end of my problems. I got this phone at a store called Best Buy and got their warranty. Now one of the things that voids the warranty is unlocking the phone, guess what?? My phone is unlocked. So since my phone is not dead, it boots up, the lock screen loads up, the top bar shows u the battery life and the fact it is getting service and can receive calls (but which I can not answer since when it comes to that screen, the screen freezes up with the error messages). So if I take the phone to Best Buy, they are going to pop in a different sim other then bell and when they see that it works, will hand me back my phone and void my warranty. So I need to have the phone in such a condition that they can not check that and yes there can be no physical or water damage either. How do I accomplish this?

I tried the MAK-DROID rom (thread) and it works great, but MAK-DROID didn't have the language pt-br (portuguese from Brazil). So I found the Aspire Rom (thread) and I give a try... and thats was a bad idea.
Now my fone even boot. It freezes on "GT-S5300 SAMSUNG" and vibrate a several times.
So, I boot on recovery and apply CWM again. On CWM I applied the MAK-DROID again, but didn't work.
After that I tried restore the my stock backup done with CWM. But even this didn't work. I received a message about EXTFS (or something like that) and impossibility of format the /system.
My final thought was try with Odin. So I follow the post #8 from MAK-DROID thread. I downlod the Odin and the S5300XXLF5 firmware. I open Odin and selected on PDA the *.tar.md5 file. But I received:
<ID:0/004> Added!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> S5300XXLF5_S5300BTULF1_S5300XXLF5_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
[code]...
So I tried again, this time with the pit file (S5300_coriemmc_0117.pit) on PIT option (when I select the pit file, automatically the option "Re-partition" is checked) and the *.tar.md5 file on PDA option. But I received:
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> S5300XXLF5_S5300BTULF1_S5300XXLF5_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..

I still have access to CWM (the update.zip is accessible from recovery).

I was wondering what would be the easiest way to remove the MCR Scripts lagfix? I don't mind doing a hard reset but will that get my phone to the out-of-the-box shape?

My Galaxy S4 GT-I9506 is bricked with this error:
image 1 (attached)
It doesn't go to recovery mode anymore now!!!
First I tried to install custom Rom to root it with Odin, it did seem fine with "green pass" but didn't actually install any recovery mode (there wasn't any install option in recovery mode, there were only update options), nothing happened to phone at all and it worked normal.
Second i wiped the phone and cache and I download the firmware from Samsung website.
and after try to install, it failed in Odin:
Images 2 & 3 (attached)
I'm not sure but I think it was a wrong firmware, because I bought my phone online (kogan.com i think it is in Hongkong) and I downloaded the Australia Vodafone firmware (as I'm using Vodafone sim card).
I should mention that phone doesn't go to recovery mode, failed in Odin, Kies can not fix it! the drivers all are up to date and no Antivirus runs in my PC.

Has anyone reinstalled ryan's lagfix since the update? My phone was nice and zippy after the update, but it seems to be getting laggy again -- not as bad as pre-update, but still a little laggy. I'm concerned that the update changed file structure or something that the existing lagfix would screw up ...?

I rooted my phone and applied the lag fix all went well until I tried to change the wallpaper from the live water to one of my daughter. It doesnt matter what picture I do and now even if I pick a wallpaper from the wallpaper gallery they all change to the wallpaper of the sunset with the water and rocks... Even using launcher pro it acts weird I have to change what wallpaper I want using touchwiz switch to launcher pro reset it for it to show a wallpaper I want. This all seems a little odd and was wondering if anyone else has had a problem similar.

I tried to install a Bootanimation with bootanimation.zip When i turned on the phone, it keeps loading the Sprint 4G splash screen...So i just went to the Recovery screen and re-flashed the Damagecontrol 3.2.3, and it still just stays at the Sprint 4g slash page. I can get into the recovery screen which has ROM Manager. Did I screw something up thats too deep internally?

I updated a few apps yesterday afternoon, I can't remember all of them but Open Home was one of them. I turned my phone off when I got to work and when I turned it back on it would not go past the Android loading screen. T-Mobile had me reset back to the default setting so I lost all my apps and such. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem after updating an app recently.I don't want to download the app again if its broken.

"Project Voodoo is an Open Source community effort to improve Galaxy S phones."Downloads are free, and do not require that your phone be rooted.I'm primarily interested in Voodoo color, since my phone does suffer from the blue tint. I'm wondering, for those people who have installed these Voodoo projects, what is your experience like.I have read some horror stories regarding lagfix, it may not have necessarily been the lagfix released by Voodoo, but I have heard about various problems such as phone starting to reboot by itself after installing lagfix, phone actually getting slower, and even bricking. I would like to know if these problems apply to Voodoo also. Anybody experience any of these issues with the Voodoo projects?

When connecting my Galaxy-S to the Samsung Kies software, my telephone shows up with an incorrect telephone number. I did change the sim-card (and subsequent number) since first using it, but I never logged intio Kies with the old sim-card.The phone is rooted. How do I get Kies (or my Samsung phone) to show my current telephone number? In the phone properties (Menu, Settings, About, Status) the same wrong number is shown. When calling, the receiver sees the correct telephone number. So the issue is not operator related but telephone related.

I was just talking to someone about bricking mobile devices and I couldn't even think of how I could accidentally brick my own phone. Couldn't you always just go into recovery and wipe/reflash? Unless there was a way to stop you from getting into recovery but I don't see how.I'm not an expert and I've learned everything I know from reading here and on XDA so I could be missing something.
