Motorola Droid :: Disable Gmail Threaded Conversations?
Nov 15, 2009
Is it possible to disable threaded conversations in gmail on the droid? I'm surprised i havent found anything on this yet - emails of information for non-related clients are grouped together because they come from the same source, making it very easy to miss new important emails since they dont appear at the top. Also, it's impossible to erase all the unnecessary emails without also deleting the few important ones.I didnt care about this on my iphone b/c the new emails just came in normally at the top of the inbox.I've overlooked several new emails b/c of this.

Google has provided the ability to disable (Turn Off) conversation view for the web-based version of Gmail. See Turn off Gmails conversation view - Official Gmail Blog for more details. My take is they're only half way there if your an Android user like myself. Has anyone heard if this feature will be making its way to the Gmail app for Android?

I really hate the Threaded / Conversation view. I found an alternative for gmail, using htc mail. However, I'm looking for a way to disable it in both the Google Voice app and the regular SMS app.

Would it be possible to disable the syncing of "read" status between my phone and my gmail inbox? On my blackberry, when an email was pushed, I would read it, but it wouldn't be marked as read in my inbox itself. I liked that because then I would know I had to address the email when I was next at a computer. I don't always have time to send a reply from my phone right when I get an email, but I like being able to look at it on my phone without it getting marked as "read" everywhere.
Is my only option to add a gmail account via POP3 instead of IMAP? I tried that and didn't like it because then none of my gmail filters work, and messages that would normally just be archived end up getting forwarded via POP. I dealt with that on the BB by setting up filters on the BIS side, but I can't do that here if I just tell the droid to just fetch all the email via POP as it comes in. Is there any way to keep the filters in place but not have read status synced?

When I am viewing messages in a conversation in the GMail app, I cannot see the entire message. The part I don't see is usually the quoted text, so it isn't that big of a deal. However, there are some forums where I get instant email notification of a new post on a thread. The link in the email to go to the thread isn't shown as a clickable URL. If I am receiving the first notification email, it is fine, I can click on the link. But when there are multiple replies, even though I delete old notifications, it still shows up in a conversation view and won't let me click the URL.So, my question is: is there a way to view the entire message in a conversation thread? Currently I have to either switch to the HTC mail app and download via IMAP or go to the GMail's mobile webpage.

Gmail won't load conversations for a day. Keeps saying no connection. I have cleared data but this hasn't resolved the problem. I can't figure out how to re install gmail either if I remove it.

Some have complained about not being able to change the LED or get repeat notifications for gmail. I stumbled on this last night and thought I would share. I haven't tried it and make no claims to its greatness.Gmail Notifier. It lets you change the color of the LED, vibration length, and gives repeat notifications. It also works for multiple gmail accounts I believe.

I have people that have gmail accounts on my phone. The problem is that some of them automatically links to that gmail account and others don't. For instance contact #1 has a gmail account I can see the picture that they update on their gmail account and statuses but contact #2 doesn't show anything from there gmail account. Is there a way to get this contacts to all link to there gmail, if they have a gmail account?

Does anyone know how to get this to work so I can compose a new email on my Droid to send to the group?I do not have this Group set up under my contacts, but it is a group created in Gmail.

Can someone tell me why when I get a notification for a new Gmail e-mail, I pull down the notification slider and click on it to view it. After that the notification still remains and I have to pull the slider down again to view it again. Then it clears it. Is the first one some type of preview that I can disable getting a notification for?

I'm thinking this might be simple but can't work out how to do it.I want to stop people that I e-mail in Gmail appearing in my People lists, usually when doing a search they come up. These people are often random people I don't want added to my contacts.I like to have access to my Gmail account on my phone but want people I've e-mailed not to appear on my phone.

Just got my HTC Desire and one of the things I'm really struggling with is threaded SMS. I can't find any way to go to regular view in the stock SMS program! That would be an unbelievable omission if it's not possible to use SMS in a normal fashion
It basically means my SMS inbox groups SMS by contact and each conversation has about 20 SMS in threads already and I've only been using it for a few days. I can see that ending up being in the hundreds within a couple of months. It also means you need many more screen taps to view the message you want to find. I can't find a way to view all the messages I've sent either, I have to go through each conversation................

I just loaded up bugless beast 0.4(2.2) and noticed that for the default messaging app I was getting a pop up window every time I got a text. I found no way to disable this. So I finally decided to just load Handcent and use that. So I disabled all notifications for the default app, and set up Handcent. The pop up options are not selected yet I still get this stupid popup!

As soon as the 2.2 update was leaked for the Droid, I downloaded it and applied it to my phone, rather than keep waiting for Verizon to push it out weeks later. The update process went smoothly, and I have been running Froyo for a couple weeks now.
The problem is, now my phone bugs me with the OTA update notification constantly, and the only options I have are to install, or install later. I have no option to decline the update. Is there any way to tell android to stop attempting to apply the OTA update? I am surprised it is even trying, as its already running 2.2 so why would it still try and update? If it matters, I have rooted my Droid.

I use Task Killer to free up memory throughout the day. I notice that everytime I launch it, certain apps keep reappearing. For example, CNET Bar Scanner it would show up so finally I just decided to uninstall it. I use corporate calendar, but not the regular calendar - any way to disable it? Same with the standard messaging app - I use Handcent. Another example is Verizon Visual Voicemail - I don't use it but it's there all the time. When my Droid starts getting laggy, I just know to launch Task Killer and kill the apps that I don't need.

I just received my new Droid X yesterday and so far I'm loving it. I discovered that there are problems with WiFi on many Droid X's and it mostly stems from what type of encryption is being used on the router. My Linksys router was set up with WPA2 Personal with AES encryption. I found out that by changing it to TKIP could alleviate the problem so that's what I did. Now WiFi seems to work just fine. The only thing that bothers me is that whenever WiFi is enabled, it doesn't seem to disable my 3G connection. All of the data is going through the WiFi connection but the 3G icon stays on the notification bar not doing anything. I thought 3G was supposed to be disabled when connected to a WiFi hotspot?

The threaded SMS in my Hero is sc**ed up. I know the issue is with my network (Vodafone India) as it puts in sh*t a$$ time stamps on all my incoming SMS's. I would like to know if there is any way I can get my incoming SMS's to show up the phone time rather than the incorrect time put in by Vodafone?

Is there a way that a ROM could disable the proximity sensor during a call? I have a huge problem where I constantly hang up on people (usually my girlfriend) and that doesn't go very well . If its possible for the end buttonor volume button to wake the screen instead of the proximity, that would save me a lot of hassle. Is this doable, either standalone or through a rom setting?
