The threaded SMS in my Hero is sc**ed up. I know the issue is with my network (Vodafone India) as it puts in sh*t a$$ time stamps on all my incoming SMS's. I would like to know if there is any way I can get my incoming SMS's to show up the phone time rather than the incorrect time put in by Vodafone?

Just wanted to report a potential issue with the Sprint HTC Hero. Me and a few friends have experienced an issue where if you:
1) install an application
2) update it or uninstall and reinstall
3) reboot your phone
Then on many applications, the launcher icon will be messed up as well as the name of the application under the icon. In many of these cases, this renders the application unusable including Google Sky and Pandora. If you then uninstall these applications and reinstall them they will work fine until you reboot your phone again. The problem doesn't seem to exist if you install the application the first time. Only does it exist if you update it and reboot or if you uninstall/reinstall and reboot. There is a fairly lengthy thread on the Android Developers mailing list regarding this. Google seems to think it is unique to the Hero itself since a stock Android device (ie: G1) doesn't have this problem. Other developers are experiencing the same thing.
is there a way to delete threaded messages, similar to if you wanted to delete emails? like if i have 20 text threads, and only wanna delete 10.. but do all 10 at the same time..
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got my HTC Desire and one of the things I'm really struggling with is threaded SMS. I can't find any way to go to regular view in the stock SMS program! That would be an unbelievable omission if it's not possible to use SMS in a normal fashion
It basically means my SMS inbox groups SMS by contact and each conversation has about 20 SMS in threads already and I've only been using it for a few days. I can see that ending up being in the hundreds within a couple of months. It also means you need many more screen taps to view the message you want to find. I can't find a way to view all the messages I've sent either, I have to go through each conversation................
I really appreciate the threaded messages in android phones but i have a strange experience with it once in a while. When you text back and forth you get all these messages in like a chat form following the order of the conversation but sometimes i would all get my messages in a cluster while the response of my friend would be thrown somewhere in the beginning or at the end. I have no problem with sending and receiving but they sometimes don't come in the right order. I don't know if i have explained myself well or if you guys can see my problem.

Haven't tried restoring from a TXT file though. Wanted to know if there's an easier method around?
I am requesting information from a web service in my android app. The web service returns a list of items, each item having a base64 image and some info
First method: simply access the web service and get the result. This means freeze of UI until data is downloaded. Not a good solution
Second method: put the data download in a thread, and display a progress bar with a message.

Our Android app does a lot of image decoding. We fetch a lot of images from the internet, local storage caches, etc. Up to now, these images are being decoded on the UI thread (using BitmapFactory.decodeX() methods). It's been causing some timeout crashes because the UI doesn't respond quickly enough to user input.
I could write a little AsyncTask that encapsulates decoding, but I'm not sure that's a good idea. Spawning threads is expensive, and that would be spawning and tearing down a ton of them. So what's the best way to put this on another thread? Do I need to go to the extent of writing a Service? That seems a little heavy-weight. Are there any solutions for this already out there?
Its been a while since I've done any coding, I'm new to android, and unfortunately my first job is rather tricky. My program need to display horizontally scrolling text and images, but it need to set the scroll speed quiet finely. Now I've been looing at some examples with TextView and some also use android.widget.Scroller.
Now I'm pretty sure I'll have to write this from scratch, but what i want to know, is there a clear way that i should use in creating the class. I could try expanding on the TextView class and use its methods. Or should I just write a class to treat text and images the same?
I really hate the Threaded / Conversation view. I found an alternative for gmail, using htc mail. However, I'm looking for a way to disable it in both the Google Voice app and the regular SMS app.

I'm surprised i havent found anything on this yet - emails of information for non-related clients are grouped together because they come from the same source, making it very easy to miss new important emails since they dont appear at the top.Also, it's impossible to erase all the unnecessary emails without also deleting the few important ones.I didnt care about this on my iphone b/c the new emails just came in normally at the top of the inbox.I've overlooked several new emails b/c of this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the original T-Mobile G1 and am generally fond of it, actually so fond im on the verge of getting myself the HTC Desire when it hits the stores here. There are however a few things that "bug" me at present.
1: Is it possible to install and use programs directly from the memory card, or does programs still have to be installed to memeory with the newest release of Android OS?
2: Isn't it possible to turn of threaded messsaging and revert to the more classic look?. Either directly through the native client or through a 3rd party text messaging client?
3: And what about saving some of your texts?. Cause you know once in a while you recieve a text thats worth saving, and at present I don't seem to be able to find that option in 'Droid. So is that not supported or does that "just" require 3rd party software.
4: And have they finally fixed the forced google sync?. Where you can ONLY get contacts and stuff to your android device through gmail. Because im honestly a bit concerned with the fact that Google "owns" everything on gmail.
I got my desire just a few weeks back and the phone is the best one i used till now...Better than the iphone..But the sms threaded view in my phone is not being stored in order for some contacts. The order of the messages stored is not as it should be...my sent message(First sent) is stored after the received one(later received)..I have tried putting my own time instead of the automatic network time still the problem continues..

For some odd reason, I am getting a ClientProtocolException saying that "The server failed to respond with a valid HTTP response". The error goes away if everything is run on a separate thread. Oddly if I run the two server requests in serial, the error goes away. It seems there's a bug that happens when two requests are made at the same time.

I have found an app called smstray that come close to doing what i need but its not perfect.
Google has provided the ability to disable (Turn Off) conversation view for the web-based version of Gmail. See Turn off Gmail�s conversation view - Official Gmail Blog for more details. My take is they're only half way there if your an Android user like myself. Has anyone heard if this feature will be making its way to the Gmail app for Android?

There doesn't seem to be any explicit way of doing asynchronous file I/ O or asynchronous resource loading. So, suppose I put BitmapFactory.decodeResource() or Resources.openRawResource() into a separate thread. Will those methods play nice with the other threads, yielding during blocking I/O operations so those other threads can run?
If those methods rely on the thread scheduler to forcibly suspend them, then the separate resource-loading thread isn't going to help me get my application started any faster (although it will help it to be more responsive to user input).
I was using for sometime now OpenGL initialization code from Api demos and it was quite hard to exchange events between View and Renderer. So, I read pieces of documentation from GLES, EGL from jsr239 and finally made the single threaded GL initialization code which is much simpler than in ApiDemos. Here it is:

I have 2 micro sd cards. one a 4gig that i used in my g1 and a 8gig that i use in my hero. in my hero the 8gig says damaged sd card. it happened last night while trying to copy a bunch of stuff from laptop and it crashed during it. says i need to format it, but it just locks up phone and i have to pull battery out to restart. tried to do it from windows, but it wont even mount. so i was going to try to use my old 4gig from my g1 that i could never delete or add any files to. no luck there either. i can access it and copy files and they will be there, but then they just disapeer. i tried formating in windows and it formats and shows empty, but then everything comes back. is there a way to fix these cards like a formating program or something.

It took me an hour to work my way to the applications list to uninstall it. I couldn't scroll through my menus, my menu and back button stopped working and the only way to navigate through anything was using the track ball in landscape mode. very strange, beware of this app.

I decided to delete the launcher from the phone and intended to download it again but now the phone keeps saying "The application HTC Sense (process com.htclauncher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." then a big button saying force close to push. I keep pushing and it keeps coming back up and I cant do a single thing about it?

I have not been able to find posts about but I cant be the only one experiencing this. It's a bit hard to explain, but let me try. The problem is that sometimes when I recieve a message that is more than one message long it is messed up. After character 160 something is not right. The text is replaced by a part of a former message (not necesarily the last one). First time it occured I tried to factory reset and the problem disappeared, but problem with market made med factory reset recently. Now the problem is back and of course I could try to factory reset again and hope for the best, but its getting a bit tiresome.

Also, EVERY 720p video I shoot has choppy playback when played back on the EVO. I have to use the back button and restart it for it to be okay, which you shouldn't have to do. Any suggestions?

So just in case they get lost to find out where they are on their map or use the gps to guide them for a little while.
So basically, calling, sms, mail and gps. They don't need to be able to change a lot of settings.So, I was thinking about installing their (yet to buy) smart phone with a simple home screen and the settings they would need.
