I would like use HTC mail as my exclusive mail app. What is the best way to disable the gmail app? I tried deleting the account and obviously it told me I cant cause its linked with the phone. If I disable gmail sync would that do the trick or is there another step to completely get rid of it?

Can someone tell me why when I get a notification for a new Gmail e-mail, I pull down the notification slider and click on it to view it. After that the notification still remains and I have to pull the slider down again to view it again. Then it clears it. Is the first one some type of preview that I can disable getting a notification for?

Is it possible to disable threaded conversations in gmail on the droid? I'm surprised i havent found anything on this yet - emails of information for non-related clients are grouped together because they come from the same source, making it very easy to miss new important emails since they dont appear at the top.Also, it's impossible to erase all the unnecessary emails without also deleting the few important ones.I didnt care about this on my iphone b/c the new emails just came in normally at the top of the inbox.I've overlooked several new emails b/c of this.

On my blackberry, when an email was pushed, I would read it, but it wouldn't be marked as read in my inbox itself. I liked that because then I would know I had to address the email when I was next at a computer. I don't always have time to send a reply from my phone right when I get an email, but I like being able to look at it on my phone without it getting marked as "read" everywhere.
Is my only option to add a gmail account via POP3 instead of IMAP? I tried that and didn't like it because then none of my gmail filters work, and messages that would normally just be archived end up getting forwarded via POP. I dealt with that on the BB by setting up filters on the BIS side, but I can't do that here if I just tell the droid to just fetch all the email via POP as it comes in. Is there any way to keep the filters in place but not have read status synced?
I want Gmail notifications to show in the notification bar, but I don't want the green blinking light on my Droid because it's woken me up sometimes at night while in the dock. How do I disable the green blinking light while leaving all the other notifications?
View 5 Replies View Relatedim not an expert on how push email works, but my understanding is that gmail messages should appear on my phone without me having to refresh or manually sync the gmail app. for a reason unknown to me, sometimes this works and sometimes it doesnt. at night, i shut down wifi and the mobile network to conserve battery and start up the mobile network when i leave for work in the morning. i get notification of new yahoo email, thru the htc widget, almost instantaneously, yet gmail doesnt come thru until i manually sync the gmail app. then during the course of the day, sometimes gmail messages get pushed right thru and other times not at all until i manually sync the app. meanwhile my yahoo mail comes thru flawlessly.
considering gmail is supposed to push and the htc widget does not, this is the opposite of what i expect. as far as settings, i have auto sync enabled for both the device and for the gmail app. while i always assume user error until proven otherwise, in this instance i think i have all the correct settings, which makes sense considering sometimes gmail does get pushed. its just erratic and unpredictable. anybody got any ideas what's going on here?
i'm trying to add a 2nd gmail account through the gmail app. it goes through the entire process, goes to the sync page and allows me to select what i wish to sync up then gives me a confirmation that the account has been added but when i go to the gmail app and check accounts it still only lists the 1 original account. i've tried powering the phone off and restarting - also added the account via HTC email app and deleted the 2nd account via HTC email app just in case it was conflicting there
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have my original gmail account "slaved" to my google apps account, so when I log in to user@gmail.com it displays my google apps user@domain.com as being logged in. For most things this is great, but now with the android phone there are some gotchya's First was the Market. I had to create yet another gmail account to buy anything off the market, because when I sign in to my 'gmail' account on my phone it signs me in as an apps user.
Second, is my google voice (attached to gmail) has its own set of contacts associated with my gmail account, and they are not synced with my google apps account. I was hoping the phone would sort of mesh them together, however I'm not seeing that. On my iPhone I was using soocial, however they recently stopped allowing unlimited contacts and their new free limit is below my number of contacts. Is there a way for the phone to keep these to contact lists "connected" and synced together?
I installed the gmail unread app and it's pretty cool. But now I get notifications from both the gmail app and the HTC mail app. Is there a way to disable notifications on the HTC app? I only want one notification for each email.

Disabling Backup Assistant on the HTC Droid Incredible There may be other ways to disable backup assistant, but follow these steps to remove duplicate contacts and backup assistant without having to factory reset. Please be aware that I just tinkered around until I got the desired result. I'm no expert and I have no idea if this effects the phone in any other way. I did this over the weekend and everything is working perfectly on my phone. So proceed at your own risk, I don't want to get any pm's about how your phone blew up. I'm just trying to help out here.
1) Be sure to have all your contacts backed up to your Gmail account. Check online before proceeding to step 2.
2) Log into your My Verizon account. Go to the contacts tab, sort by list view and select all contacts. Delete the entire list. There's a deleted contacts tab as well. Select that and delete anything that's in there.
3) Go into your Incredible settings tab, select applications, manage applications. Do not sort or filter, allow list to populate. Select Sync Service, (icon resembles backup assistant icon) select clear data.
4) Also in manage applications scroll down to backup assistant, select clear data. This should do it.
5) To verify backup assistant is now disabled, select settings, accounts and sync, then under manage accounts, select backup assistant. You should be looking at a license agreement screen.
No more backup assistant, no factory reset.

If you're rooted, you can use the free "Titanium Backup" to uninstall Backup Assistant. Be sure to back it up in Titanium backup before uninstalling it. After you uninstall, it will no longer appear at all in Accounts and Sync.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI migrated from AT&T/iPhone due to crappy coverage, and mostly like the Incredible.However, one area that it's pretty bad is voice quality.The reception is fine.I'm talking about the processing that the phone itself does (when using the handset itself as a phone) to attempt to make the caller at the other end more clear-sounding. It cuts out background noise but is too sensitive and often makes it difficult to understand the person on the other end of the line. When I put the phone on speakerphone mode or use it with Bluetooth in my car I don't seem to have this problem.it's only when I'm using the handset itself as a phone. When I've been on a single call I've tried switching between the three in my car when stopped, and I can always hear perfectly with the speakerphone or Bluetooth.when I use the handset is does that weird cutoff thing. I work in audio for a living and it's just like a bad noise gate.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've done some googling, and found plenty of people with my issue, but mine can't seem to be resolved like everyone else's. I've been getting two notifications for every txt I get, one's icon is a Letter, the other's is a Smiley Face. I only use the built-in Messages application that came with the phone, its all I've ever used. If I go into Messages, and disable it from making any notifications, when I get a txt, a tone will still play and I still get the Smiley Face notification. Some people have linked this to Beautiful Widgets Pack 2, and I've seen numerous threads where people uninstall it, and it fixes the issue. I installed Beautiful Widgets Pack 2 last week, didn't like it, and uninstalled it. And yet I still have this issue! I even tried installing it again and then uninstalling it again, then rebooted, and it still pops up a notification with that Smiley Face!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got my Incredible almost two weeks ago and haven't modified it in any way other than switching to LauncherPro instead of Sense. I've seen these buttons (highlighted in red in the screenshots) in various places; Used for selection of a single item or as "enabled" or "disabled", they just don't look right. Especially in Astrid, they don't look like they do in the screenshots from the market. what are these buttons called (they're not radio buttons or checkboxes, so I'm assuming they have a name)? Does this happen to anyone else?

Since I use Google Voice for Visual Voicemail, and want to use Handcent for messaging, there is really no use for the stock HTC Messaging app.
Is there a way to disable it completely?
I've tried searching, but apparently don't know the right search criteria to find what I'm looking for.
I've seen it posted how to disable the Verizon pop up when you just want to charge from your USB, and I did it initially, but then I did a factory re-set and it's popping back up.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy lame company forces me to password protect my Incredible, thereby causing me much delay having to enter a password every time I turn the thing on. This is for corporate email through Activesync.
Is there ANY way to disable this? Or some hack that will at least "remember" the password so I just need to hit Enter, or something, after unlocking the phone with a swiped?
This seems to be a very annoying feature if there is not a way to disable it (and I can't find one). I have my google contacts all set up and they are the only things I want in my phone book. I know in "people" I can just show google, but when I got to dial a number, all of my facebook friends with numbers show up too. For some reason they are showing up in my google contacts too (when I log into gmail on my computer). It is nice how the facebook picture syncs with my contacts, but that is all I want, not everyone on else facebook who are not in my google contacts.

I have disabled the entire Background Sync, but of course that disables the Market. Is there a way to disable Google contacts sync that anyone has found?

On my old phone if I plug headphones or 3.5cable into the jack the phone thinks it has a Mic and disables the one on the phone. So if I get a call while in the car listening to music I can answer the phone and hear the caller through my car stereo but they cannot hear me. Am I going to need a special cable with mic to use in my car?

I have Google Voice, which I recently discovered counts against my minutes when it sends me a transcript/recording of my voicemails (this is because VZ forwards calls to GV and charges for the time). I am leaving the country and the cost of calls overseas is $2/minute. I need to avoid charges for calls where people leave me voicemail messages, so I need to disable GV for the time I'm overseas. I can't figure out how to temporarily disable GV.

When I go to click on the setting for Message Format, it says Plain Text and is greyed out. I know there are a few other threads on this, but this is a bit different...
1. Is there a separate inherent Android Email client that will achieve this?
2. I dont want to use Touchdown or K-9
Secondly, I cant seem to disable Sense on this phone - is that something HTC has shut off? I clear defaults and hit home, and it reboots to Sense everytime. I was trying to do this to see what the built-in email would be like.
So obviously, I need to enable Location Settings in order to get GPS ability in Google Maps. But I don't see why it needs to have an icon taking up valuable space in the status bar (as a side note, there's an icon to indicate that it's OFF, so you can't NOT have a location setting icon on there). There was no such icon on my Droid.
Is there a way to disable this icon that anyone knows of? With Wifi/3G, the battery meter, alarm clock, the time, and the bars, they take up over half of my status bar. The problem is compounded by the fact that I have a battery app that always displays the exact battery percentage on the left side (another side note; why isn't the exact percentage shown on the default battery icon?
