Sprint HTC Hero :: Conversations In GMail App

When I am viewing messages in a conversation in the GMail app, I cannot see the entire message. The part I don't see is usually the quoted text, so it isn't that big of a deal.However, there are some forums where I get instant email notification of a new post on a thread. The link in the email to go to the thread isn't shown as a clickable URL. If I am receiving the first notification email, it is fine, I can click on the link. But when there are multiple replies, even though I delete old notifications, it still shows up in a conversation view and won't let me click the URL.So, my question is: is there a way to view the entire message in a conversation thread? Currently I have to either switch to the HTC mail app and download via IMAP or go to the GMail's mobile webpage.

Does anybody else besides me also like the way the iPhone and Palm Pre both place the photo (or text "balloon") of peopl on alternate sides of the screen during text messengering and IM chat conversations? It really gives a nice sense the "back and forth" of real life conversation...and to also help distinguish one's own comments from those of the person one is conversing with...particularly if there's no actual photo in the phone book to show the person (you can still see the back and forth pattern Seems like such a great idea and so simple to implement! Why the heck can't they do that on our Android phone?

Gmail won't load conversations for a day. Keeps saying no connection. I have cleared data but this hasn't resolved the problem. I can't figure out how to re install gmail either if I remove it.

What about it saying "loading conversations?"

Is it possible to disable threaded conversations in gmail on the droid? I'm surprised i havent found anything on this yet - emails of information for non-related clients are grouped together because they come from the same source, making it very easy to miss new important emails since they dont appear at the top.Also, it's impossible to erase all the unnecessary emails without also deleting the few important ones.I didnt care about this on my iphone b/c the new emails just came in normally at the top of the inbox.I've overlooked several new emails b/c of this.

Google has provided the ability to disable (Turn Off) conversation view for the web-based version of Gmail. See Turn off Gmail�s conversation view - Official Gmail Blog for more details. My take is they're only half way there if your an Android user like myself. Has anyone heard if this feature will be making its way to the Gmail app for Android?

i have been playin around with my hero and im a big texter and noticed theres an issue with my text messaging.. when i go to the programs, then hit messages and get into the "All messages" main screen i always only have one person listed (usually the first text i received) and like 50 texts...but the catch is, ill have received texts from maybe 5 different people...so instead of 5 different conversations/people listed on the "All messages" main screen ill have one person and all the conversations from all the different people will be in that one thread.no huge deal right? wrong...if i try to text the last person that texted me it will go to like the person that texted me 20 minutes ago and all sorts of random ppl that had texted me through out the day...its super annoying im guessing this has to be a bug because under all messages i would assume it would seperate by people.

Anyone else experiencing problems with long SMS conversations (20+ messages)? Firstly it seems that intermittently I cannot scroll back through the conversation. If I exit the conversation and go back to it enough times it'll eventually allow me to scroll through.Additionally, when composing a message on a long conversation the keyboard suffers quite bad lag.Is this just me and has anyone found a fix?

I dont know if I am the only one but I am unable to recieve pictures on the gmail app on my Hero. I am able to view them with K9 and the regular email app. I am running Fresh 2.0b2 I dont mind using K9 or the regular email app but they arent as cosmetically fine tuned as the gmail app. You would think that an Android powered phone wouldnt have this issue.

I created a Gmail acct when I first got my Hero, but just yesterday I began an internship for a political campaign and they created another Gmail acct for me and they would like me to be able to receive my emails on my phone, they also use Google Calender so all the interns can be aware of the schedule of events. So how do I add this new Gmail acct and Google Calender to my Hero so I can recveive my email and be able to access the calender using the GMAIL App that came preinstalled?

Is anyone having problems with Gmail syncing? I am using the Gmail app and started this afternoon I am not getting push email anymore. If I open the app and select Menu --> Refresh, the new messages pop in there. I did a soft reset and made sure Gmail was set to sync automatically.

Since yesterday, I can't sync Gmail, I cant actually download from the market (although I can initiate), and I cant open Google Talk (it opens for a split second then closes, no force quit or error messages at all).I have searched for a solution all morning.I have tried going to google and google storage in applications and clearing cache/data to no help.I even went back to a nandroid from 2 weeks ago, no help there either.The only thing I have done is accidently change my password online from a PC.I changed it back 5 minutes later to the original (which is the one the phone uses).I am using Fresh 2.0D.PS yes I wiped when I went back to an old nandroid backup...Yes my sync settings are correct.

Lately my gmail app has stopped notifying me when I receive an email. I have to go in and refresh it to get my email to pop up. I checked the settings and it is set to notify me.

I installed Gmail Notifier, but now I am not getting any notifications at all when I get mail. Does anyone else use Gmail Notifier that could perhaps comment? Is it the program or do I have a setting wrong somewhere. Is any other app known to conflict with the notifications?

I was reading a previous thread about blury contact pictures so I thought I would try to assign pictures to some of my contacts. I looked up the instructions in Gmail Help and they refer to a picture section in Contacts. The problem is I do not see any reference to pictures in either new or existing contacts or edits. Am I missing something or do I have a old version of Gmail if there is such a thing?

I'm trying to figure out why some of the thumbnails of attached pictures don't automatically show up when I open the message. It seems like when I open an older message that has 5 or more pictures in it, it will not show the thumbnails, so I have to go through and click preview to see them. And then it will only keep the thumbnails visible for the first 5 that I previewed. And sometimes it won't show any of of the thumbnails when I open a message, even if its only 1 or 2 pictures.

I am currently downloading 2.1 and wanted to make sure I was able to get all my contacts back. When I go into "contacts" in gmail, everyone shows up. When 2.1 finishes, obviously I will lose everything. Will my contacts automatically show up on my hero once I set up my gmail account on the phone or is there more that I need to do?

Here is the deal, back in Jan when I finally got all my contacts sorted and edit after some issues with sync, I tuned off the Auto sync, with the idea that I would force a sync when I wanted to and I could watch what was going on.I have about 350-375 contacts in my phone currently. I want to play with some 2.1 roms so I need to get these synced to gmail so I dont loose them again. i can not get it to sync. I get :I have tried setting auto sync and still have an issue.

I am realizing sometimes when I get new gmail, I don't get the notification even though notifications are set to ON and auto-sync ON. I check my gmail app and the new mail is there but it says Inbox(0), NOT Inbox(1) like it should be even though the new message is bolded in font like it should. Then when I delete the message it says Inbox(-1) This might be the reason I don't get a notification sometimes. Has anyone else encountered this?

Here's the deal - the Gmail app was working perfectly for me, but I wanted to use the HTC email client. I had my account set up on both, with 15 minute polling on the HTC client, and this worked fine. However, I wanted push email while using this client, so I set up Exchange activesync using m.google.com for my gmail account.
I noticed almost constant activity from the activsync, the phone got quite hot in a short time, and the battery drained at an amazing rate.
So I decided I didn't need ativesync, and I deleted the account. This is when the problem started. My gmail app now refuses to send out any email. When I try, it says "sending" in red, but it never does.
What are my options?

I finally opted to try Fresh's new ROM yesterday (really sweet!) but am having a problem with how it is handing gmail emails. With Fresh 1.1 I would typically receive my emails moments after they were sent, and before they would show up on my computer.
But on 2.0d they are showing up 20-30 minutes later. I've looked for settings and can't even seem to find a frequency setting.
I'd love to get this working and if it's possible could see this as my everyday ROM! But I need my emails promptly. Anyone know what's going on?
One other thing, I noticed that I can't set ringtones for people. Not a deal breaker but has anyone else noticed this?
On a side note, the calendar is AMAZING! I'll hate to have to go back to Fresh 1.1 for that reason alone.

Is anyone else's push email from Gmail broken? Mine is. I've played with the settings, restored to the stock rom, sent myself an email from the computer, but the notification never comes up. If I go into Gmail, the mail is sitting there for me to read though.

When I got my HTC Hero a few days back, I instantly noticed I cannot bluetooth my contacts. So I spent over hours trying to figure out a way to do it and eventually forced me to create all my contacts in my PC (which I just import/exported to my gmail account), but that took me about an hour or 2. So I was wondering if there was some way I can backup my contacts FROM the phone, directly onto gmail, or a contacts file. Because I know I will get contacts, and this information will be helpful in the near future.Also, please check out my other thread. My HTC is having major Awake issues.

I recently had my phone replaced due to the dust under the screen issue. When I set up my new (refurb) phone with my gmail account, I had tons of contacts in my phone that I had never seen before. The girl at sprint said it imports all of my email contacts, and it looked like they had added contacts from email addresses I had only emailed once, that werent even in my contacts group on my email. They ended up wiping my contacts and transferring them over from my old hero. She said I should create a new gmail account, and use it ONLY for syncing my contacts, that way I dont get all the other email contacts in my phone also. Im wondering how I do this, because I want to set it up before 2.1 comes out for the hero, so when I upgrade to 2.1, I wont have the same issue.

I have tried to get to the bottom of this problem a few different ways, but haven't had any luck and haven't found it in any other threads. The issue is that after the 2.1 update my gmail will not sync to the phone. I have gone to Settings < Accounts & Sync < Google and found that Contacts, Gmail, and Calendar are all set to sync but while Contacts and Calendars have recent times for their latest sync Gmail is always the same. I have unchecked/rechecked the Sync Gmail toggle to get the sync going and the arrows spin but it never updates. I have also tried to refresh from the Gmail app itself with no luck and logged into a Wifi connection to see if it would work over something other than the mobile network still no luck. I have also rebooted several times with this seeming to work to resync Gmail only once and not in the last couple of tries. I do have Advanced Task Killer and have used it to close down a few programs including the browser. This never had any affect in 1.5 but just wanted to make sure a new problem couldn't have come from that.
