I have Handcent SMS installed, but when I receive a text I get two alerts. The first is a dark grey popup box with the text in it. Then I get the Handcent alert. I am assuming the first popup is the default SMS app. How can I disable this?

I got the hero with Android 1.5 and I want to change my default SMS application. My new application have a blacklist feature so I can ignore some messages. But when I receive a sms, both the default sms and my new sms application are giving a notification. is there a way to disable the default one?

In the 2.1 app it simply showed my name and the other persons name; no pic of us next to every text. Is there anyway to disable showing the pics in the 2.2 app? Just got a captivate yesterday and coming from an Incredible so far there are some things I really like about this phone and a couple not so much. One thing I can't figure out is how to disable the default email viewer? I am getting 2 notifications every time a email comes in. I get one in my gmail launcher and another in the notification bar. The one in the notification bar takes me to the email viewer that is blue and black and is the one I want to turn off.

I got the problem that I have to implement a contact list/picker including a filtering possibility for the contacts list. That means that the standard android picker opened by an intent does not help me. So I decided to implement the list/picker on my own which is not that difficult. But I need to be able to offer the android search dialog in my own implementation as well.
So is it possible to reuse the standard contact search mechanism in an own application? (the contact search available e.g. in the default contact list) Or do I have to implement this one on my own?

I found no way to disable this. So I finally decided to just load Handcent and use that. So I disabled all notifications for the default app, and set up Handcent. The pop up options are not selected yet I still get this stupid popup!
