I just rooted and downloaded the ult droid froyo beta, and it runs fine, but can't change to any other rom's or flash any kernals. It just loops with the M then reboots back into normal phone. I have backed up this one and stock 2.1, but won't even let me get back to that.

I recently finally rooted my Droid, last week. I did it by using the DroidRootKit. Love t so far, have installed Bugles Beast and UD. Question, I am reading about changing kernels for faster speeds. How is this accomplished? I have installed the new ROM's via the clockwork update.zip utility, but cant find solid docs on how to do the kernel?

Some weird things are going on with my battery. I was running Liquid Froyo 1.9 and even 1.95 using slayher kernel and i even tried the p3droid kernel and when i reached about 40% battery, my battery would just jump to 20% and after that pretty quickly to about 5% and then its dead. I recently installed ultimate droid 2.0.0 also using slayher and even then it still did it. I don't understand why this is happening, i havn't even used my phone that much for it to reach 5% so fast, especially jump from 40 or 50% down to 20% in an instant.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a Droid 2 recently and decided to put the 16GB card from my O.G. Droid but before so I wiped everything from it, minus my pictures and videos. My Droid 1 is rooted and I wanted to go back to it but now when I try to flash a rom it doesn't work and it looks like a bunch of stuff is missing from the SD card or whatever it needs for clockwork to do its magic. So the question is what do I need to do to get back to where I can flash roms willy nilly like before? Do I need to go to stock then re-root or is there a more simple way?

I understand that most ROMs (e.g. CM7 and CM9) include both the kernel and the ROM, but can you flash these separately too?
I have a 1.5 year old thunderbolt that's rooted, and has CM7 which is based on gingerbread. I believe HTC has also released the kernel as open source, which is probably the reason I have CM7
Anyway, why I can't install newer versions of android onto the already working/open source kernel I'm already running. Is it accurate to view the kernel as all the phone's drivers, or just the CPU driver? If that statement is true, why can't I load ICS or Jelly Bean onto my already existing set of drivers? my brain around it enough to share with others!

Reason for this thread is to share what ROMS you've gotten best battery life from, cuz I'm trying to venture out and try some different ones with the best life.
I have a couple questions i was wondering could get answered by people with knowledge on the subject. I am pretty new to all this root and flashing scene with these android phones.
so here goes.
About a month [or so] ago i rooted my phone from stock 2.2 i had to downgrade to 2.1 -> root -> back to 2.2. since then i have been enjoying the pleasure of running apps like wifi tether adfree and so on. well i recently found out that because my phone was rooted ( i am still running stock ROM) that i cant update the pri and the kernal ( again i don't really know what this stuff really is, i just know it can help performance and battery wise). so
1. i was wondering if i can flash custom kernels onto the stock ROM.
2. are there any things i can flash onto my rooted stock ROM to help with battery life or anything else?

I rooted my phone about a month ago and had been running Amon RA's recovery. Today I decided to try out ClockworkMod's recovery because I had heard that it will install packages without a signature. So I flashed the latest Clockwork Recovery. Everything went fine, but when I tried to install any new Roms such as Evil Eris 4.0, nothing happened. It just would reboot into the stock ROM.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHave been testing kernels the past few days, have a few thoughts:I've tried the Slayher v1.6 kernel, ChevyNo1's ULV, jdflg's, and p3droid's, all 1200mhz. With all kernels set to "on demand", I can't say for sure if any one gives more battery life than any other, my usage is too variable. P3Droid's are 125mhz base clock, while the others are 250 or 300mhz, but there wasn't an obvious difference with my use. I'm guessing at low clocks, processor drain is negligible unless you're going to be in a semi-sleep state for a long time. All kernels bench about the same, and P3Droid's don't feel any slower even with the lower base clock, which suggests to me that most kernel makers should consider including a sub-200mhz option. Kernels with "interactive governor" subjectively feel slightly faster when using interactive governor, but battery life is definitely a little shorter. All kernels seem equally stable. All kernels seem to run about the same temperature, with maybe a very slight edge to Chevy's ULV kernel (~2c loaded). Temperature monitoring is not very accurate. I turned on my phone earlier in class, to see a 13c CPU temp. That's about 8-10c below ambient. This is consistent on all kernels I have tried.

View 16 Replies View RelatedI am rooted on the Droid 1 with a stock FRG22D kernel and ROM.I downloaded WiFi Tether from the Market.I tried it out on several different laptops using different Windows OS.It appears to work great as long as Access Control (MAC Filtering) and WEP are turned off.If either is activated, all data transfer ceases. Other posts have also noted this issue which appears to be associated with the stock FRG22D kernel.My question is has anyone flashed a Froyo P3 or other kernal that will allow Access Control or WEP to work as intended with the stock FRG22D ROM. I am happy with the stock kernel and ROM but will consider switching if I can find a compatable kernel or other configuration.Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Everything went perfect, however, now I am having trouble finding a kernel that will work. Have tried P3s and jdflg's which say they are for 2.1 but neither booted.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter realizing I can back up e-mail settings and home screens, I updated to the latest Cyogen (just one step). Now I'm putting my kernel back on (Becket) and I noticed there were increased voltage kernels.
I just installed 1.2 low voltage. Hope it runs well.

So i tried the next step on my agenda, which was to find an overclock kernel for Froyo 2.2. Ive tried a handful of ChevyNo1 kernels, and a couple from jdlfg and none of them seem to take. The speed scale in SetCPU remains at a max of 600mHz, while Overclock widget shows me a possible max of 900mHz. Even if i try to set the max at 900mHz in Overclock widget, the widget never actually reads that high and SetCPU never reflects that speed either.
I can confirm that I have root, and both SetCPU and Overclock Widget are being given superuser permissions.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI need help with understanding kernels, so far all I am able to find is that I need to find out what kernels work with my phone through trial and error because even if its the same phone a kernel may work for one person but not another. So to understand what a working kernel actually is like, I need to know what apps I need in order to see the product of an installed kernel. I know they have to do with getting the fastest processor speed, while getting the longest battery life, while getting the least amount of heat from the phones battery and processor.I figure to know if a kernel is cooperating well with my droid I need to know what is a normal battery/processor temperature for the motorola droid1? and what are kernel slots? what are standard/med/low voltages?I figure battery life is up to me to decide if it is good or not.

Whats the difference between a 2.0.1 ROM and 2.1 ROM?
I've been rooted for awhile and always stuck with either AdamZ ROM or Pete's Bugless Beast and they were all based off of 2.0.1. Is there something special I need to do in order to run a ROM based off of 2.1?
I'm seriously contemplating rooting my phone. I want to change my phone basically, and try out a few ROMs. I just need to know how computer savvy I have to be to install ROMs, how long it takes roughly, and how difficult changing roms or unrooting if I want to is. Also, I want to try a Froyo rom. Whats the best one out there? I tried looking through the roms threads and can only find screenshots on a couple, so if you guys could post a link to a site with them or post yours that would be cool. I would like something that has the Sense widgets, mainly the calendar, music, and clock/weather widgets with the animations.
I know there are widget apps out there but I don't feel like paying just yet when I'm not sure if I want to stay rooted or not. For the rom suggestions I basically want what the battery life is, speed, and the amount of bugs or problems you guys have had. I know I can search the threads to find the other questions I have, and with your suggestions I will, but I'll be basing those searches off your suggestions. Say I root but I don't like any of the roms out there, I don't have to install a rom to stay rooted, right? I would basically wanna just overclock it and remove a couple apps to possibly speed up my phone. I try not to sound like that, but with rooting I really just don't wanna screw up my phone.
All the new features sites said Flash 10 was part of Driod 2.2. 2.2 was pushed to my phone overnight and I installed it. However when I go to the Adobe Flash showcase, it says I don't have flash installed. So I search the market place and do not see flash as a download. Is this just something that will come later? I really don't read up on Driod all the time so I don't know all the news, just a regular user.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have gotten both the Flash Player and Flash Lite APK's, and I have been trying to install them on the Droid. Flash Player refuses to install on stock 2.1. Flash Lite installs, but after install I can not connect to the internet (Nothing connects, Skype, market, random app, browser.)
So I wanted to know if anyone wanted to do some testing with them, to see if you can get them running on the ROM you are running. Maybe we will be able to make fun of iDevices earlier, because Droid Does what iDont
