Motorola Droid :: Weird Battery With Multiple Roms / Kernels

Nov 19, 2010

Some weird things are going on with my battery. I was running Liquid Froyo 1.9 and even 1.95 using slayher kernel and i even tried the p3droid kernel and when i reached about 40% battery, my battery would just jump to 20% and after that pretty quickly to about 5% and then its dead. I recently installed ultimate droid 2.0.0 also using slayher and even then it still did it. I don't understand why this is happening, i havn't even used my phone that much for it to reach 5% so fast, especially jump from 40 or 50% down to 20% in an instant.

Motorola Droid :: Most Root Friendly Manufacturer?

Sep 19, 2010

I'm increasingly feeling like our beloved Droid1, which has been by far the best supported by developers of root, will eventually be abandoned by our developers as more and more smartphones emerge with better specs - from manufacturers who will play ball with us - unlike the Motorola, who is apparently giving the root community the cold shoulder with new encrypted bootloaders and closed exploits. As November approaches, the mass exodus will begin as those who can upgrade early will begin to do so (as some already have who have lines on their accounts that are upgradable now), and the number of Droid1 owners will dwindle more rapidly. My question is - after the dust settles - to which manufacturers will our developers migrate to the most? Which one will be the most root-friendly? I have been spoiled by flashing ROM after ROM after ROM and making all sorts of modifications, and the thought of having to use anything stock turns my stomach.Pete, Fab, Chevy, JRummy, Koush, CyanogenMod team, CVPS - and others (you know who you are) - feel free to guide us in the right direction!

Motorola Droid :: Consolidating - ROM With Good Speed And Battery Life

Nov 10, 2010

Recently switched from the Eris to the Droid thanks to Verizon and needed a crash course on Droid Roms. I am familiar with rooting for the Eris, but it seems Droid is a different beast. I have no issue rooting, I can figure that out from the posts. I just need help consolidating what ROMs to look at and what I should be looking for.

My priorities are:
1) Battery Life
2) Speed/Stability
3) Similar "look" to Droid, but doesn't has to be absolute
4) Ability to customize status bar, etc. I want to try my hand with Desktop Visualizer and create my own "theme" as it were for the phone.

That's really it. I realize having good speed and battery life may be a trade off, so focus more on battery life. The Droid is already way quicker than my Droid (even rooted), but who doesn't like a little extra speed?

HTC EVO 4G :: Kernels / Set CPU Battery Comparison?

Sep 18, 2010

So I have been playing around with different kernels and settings and logging them in System Panel. I will explain details below each pic. Usage was the similar each day with a little bit of tethering, alot of web surfing, imobsters texting and email with kids playing some games here and there as well. Running Fresh 3.2 with different kernels on different days. Monday night I installed Fresh 3.2 and ran the Fresh kernel with SetCPU ondemand and screen off profile and ran it the same way through Thursday. Late Thursday evening I installed Kings #9 bfs kernel and uninstalled SetCPU and ran it all day Friday Late Friday I reinstalled SetCPU and set it to conservative and ran it that way all day Saturday. As you can see, Tues, Wed, and Thurs were all very consistent. Tues I got appx 15-16 hours, Wed I got 14-15 hours and Thurs appx 12-13 hours. Friday was by far the best just letting the kernel do its thing with no SetCPU. Saturday sucked! Battery was dead by 6 pm with appx 9 hours use. I just flashed the Fresh stock kernel back on and uninstalled SetCPU and will see how that compares tomorrow. Sure would like to see the 1.5 days flipz is getting! I have read several places now that SetCPU may be counter productive since the newer kernels are managing things better lately. Does anybody know if the Fresh 3.2 stock kernel is using HAVS?

HTC EVO 4G :: Do All Kernels Kill Battery Life?

Sep 13, 2010

So I am on my 2nd kernel now other than stock. I tried netarchy .18 and currently using kings 9 bfs. I am running stock rooted froyo. The stock kernel gave me the best battery, both netarchy and kings kernels have given better performance. Is there a best of both worlds, i.e. a kernel that gives better performance over stock AND better battery life? With the netarchy kernel I used 25 percent of my battery in 2 hours from a full charge. So far with kings I have used 10 percent in 30 minutes from full charge! This compared to stock which was 90 percent over 20 hours. Any ideas or suggestions?

Motorola Droid :: Thoughts On Kernels

Sep 27, 2010

Have been testing kernels the past few days, have a few thoughts:I've tried the Slayher v1.6 kernel, ChevyNo1's ULV, jdflg's, and p3droid's, all 1200mhz. With all kernels set to "on demand", I can't say for sure if any one gives more battery life than any other, my usage is too variable. P3Droid's are 125mhz base clock, while the others are 250 or 300mhz, but there wasn't an obvious difference with my use. I'm guessing at low clocks, processor drain is negligible unless you're going to be in a semi-sleep state for a long time. All kernels bench about the same, and P3Droid's don't feel any slower even with the lower base clock, which suggests to me that most kernel makers should consider including a sub-200mhz option. Kernels with "interactive governor" subjectively feel slightly faster when using interactive governor, but battery life is definitely a little shorter. All kernels seem equally stable. All kernels seem to run about the same temperature, with maybe a very slight edge to Chevy's ULV kernel (~2c loaded). Temperature monitoring is not very accurate. I turned on my phone earlier in class, to see a 13c CPU temp. That's about 8-10c below ambient. This is consistent on all kernels I have tried.

Motorola Droid :: Overclock Kernels Not Installing?

Aug 25, 2010

Just fixed my recovery mode issues through the solution given in this thread...

[Fix] Stock recovery coming back/Custom recovery wont stick

So i tried the next step on my agenda, which was to find an overclock kernel for Froyo 2.2. Ive tried a handful of ChevyNo1 kernels, and a couple from jdlfg and none of them seem to take. The speed scale in SetCPU remains at a max of 600mHz, while Overclock widget shows me a possible max of 900mHz. Even if i try to set the max at 900mHz in Overclock widget, the widget never actually reads that high and SetCPU never reflects that speed either.

I can confirm that I have root, and both SetCPU and Overclock Widget are being given superuser permissions.

Motorola Droid :: What Kernels Work With My Phone Through Trial And Error?

Oct 7, 2010

I need help with understanding kernels, so far all I am able to find is that I need to find out what kernels work with my phone through trial and error because even if its the same phone a kernel may work for one person but not another. So to understand what a working kernel actually is like, I need to know what apps I need in order to see the product of an installed kernel. I know they have to do with getting the fastest processor speed, while getting the longest battery life, while getting the least amount of heat from the phones battery and processor.I figure to know if a kernel is cooperating well with my droid I need to know what is a normal battery/processor temperature for the motorola droid1? and what are kernel slots? what are standard/med/low voltages?I figure battery life is up to me to decide if it is good or not.
