Motorola Droid :: Camera App To Improve Picture Quality?
Dec 2, 2009
Is it possible that someone could create an App for the Camera to improve picture quality? Is it even possible to improve things like Shutter speed, blurriness, grain in picture and ISO through an App?

I am extremely happy with my DX. My only complaint is the quality of the camera in low light. Every picture I take looks grainy. At times the flash washes everything out. I know it's just a camera and I shouldn't expect much, but for such a great device that does everything else, it's a bit of a bummer. I've been looking at low light photos from the SF and they appear to be worlds apart. Does anyone have any hints to get decent looking photos in low light?

The dual LED flash on the EVO works well in moderately lit situations but when shooting in the dark the flash makes images extremely bright and washed out. I was messing around with the camera settings and was able to produce decent results by changing ISO, brightness, etc. but that's a pain. Instead, tape a small strip of plain white paper over the LED flash. It diffuses the flash and makes a huge difference.

My Hero has the latest ROM and is running on O2. when i get an MMS, the picture quality is terrible. i have been sent MMSs from different phones (inc. iphone) and different networks. The pictures look great on the phones on which they were taken, but appear low resolution when received on my hero. I can't find any setting to increase the quality. I do notice that when I open the received photo in albums, it is super tiny. So it looks like the Hero (or Android) is shrinking them. Are there some settings I can change? I can't find anything that appears relevant. Or else an app that will help?

When taking photo's this weekend that involved zooming in i found that the picture taken was never in focus. I have enabled the image stabilizer function but still whenever i zoom at all it is blurred (not sharp). When taking a picture that didn't involve zooming the image is sharp as you would expect from the camera. Is anyone having this trouble or is it just a dodge phone/camera i have and should go back to my supplier and exchange it?

For those who don't know yet. The desires back cover has a camera lens protector made by very cheap plastic, that scratches very easily. When this happens, the pictures will have a "glowing", blurry, un sharp look. What I did was removing the piece of transparent plastic "lens protector" on the back cover and then used a small piece of screen protector and sticked it on the lenses. Even without it the chances you actually scratch the lens is virtually none. So now I have a hole in my back cover, but I dramatically improved my picture and video quality.

I'll keep this one short - I just want to know if anyone has tried some of the available camera apps, and actually noticed better Incredible photos with less noise, brighter indoor photos without flash, color rendering, or better focus. If you could explain any theoreticals on how software interacts with the hardware to produce such improvements, that would be appreciated too.

On the Droid X, the caller ID which is synced from my Facebook or Google account is very low quality and small in size/dimensions. Is there not a setting to show high res quality and to make it appear larger on the screen? I just switched from the Evo and know that it was a similar issue on there. just curious if there is a known work around for the Droid X. Other than that, I am very happy with this phone so far. The build quality is much much better than the Evo's.

What do you all think of the quality of the pictures on your DX's? No need to post pictures..... just want your opinions. Maybe rate 1 - 10 with 10 being best. I hated the pictures I took on my Droid 1. The quality was poor at best. Especially inside. I've taken a few with the DX using Vignette and they are pretty good.

I thought something was wrong with my specific phone. But, once I spoke to some buddies they explained they were having same issues. Inside, and night photos are horrible. Outside shots with no movement are ok. 5 Megapixels,, quality seems more like 2 megapixels.

I am hard to impress and this device really impresses me. No bugs or issues yet that I haven't been able to fix. Camera works great. Screen is beautiful. Everything is solid. Call quality is great. Signal is rock solid (better, in fact, than my old LG, which was itself good). GPS is crazy accurate (can tell which couch I'm sitting on within the same room).
Motorola, Google, and Verizon is a team that's hard to match if the owner is ready to invest the time in setting up the device properly.

I've been rooted for a long time and I've always remembered terrible photos, I mean absolutely terrible with this phone and I've been fine with it. A couple days ago my cousin and I finally got to sit down and root his phone, he was at 2.1 and I now have him at 2.2 with BB. Yesterday he asked me about the camera quality diminishing and if it was a common effect of rooting and I didn't believe it was. So anyway, does anyone have any experience with the camera losing quality after root? Like I was saying, I've always thought mine was shitty and I just lived with it.

Just got my new Droid X on Saturday, and started playing with it...first installing LauncherPro, and Beautiful Widgets.
Then I started to play with the camera taking pictures...I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to change the "save location" on the phone for when it takes the photos. I don't know whether the photos are being saved to the SD Card (like I WANT), or to the internal memory (which I don't!).

Every Froyo based ROM I have tried when I take a picture its saturated purple. Its not blurry or anything just really purple. I tried setting the white balance and nothing seems to work. When I switch back to a 2.1 rom everything is fine. This is the only thing keeping me from staying with 2.2.

So my brother rooted my moto Droid a few days ago and after struggling to get it to work properly with 2.2 we finally got it. However a new problem has emerged I have found out today. When I try to take a picture with the phones camera it doesn't save the picture, it doesn't ask me to save and it sure doesn't do it on its own either.

Got the Droid X on 7/15, everything was great, got the system update, now the camera won't work. Black screen only, even though both the Camera and Camcorder apps behave like they're working (with a black screen). Cannot take pictures at all, can take video, although no image is shown and playback of videos is a completely black screen.
I look in the camera and it looks like the shutter is open, although I'm not 100% certain what a closed shutter would look like. I think I can see the lens.
I did a full System Restore, the problem did not go away.
I've tried the camera app from the marketplace, facebook, etc., all treat the camera in the same way: just a black screen.
Trying to take a picture, the focus noise doesn't even sound.
This was working prior to the update, albeit in a leggy manner. Should I return my Droid X, or is there some other software / use fix I have not tried?

I have had my Hero for a few days. My prior phone was the Palm Pre. The pre was a great phone and when webos 1.40 came out, video recording was great. The downside of the phone is that it felt that I was holding an egg and the overall build was horrible. Not to mention that the screen would go funky if it was used for more than 5 minutes. I went with the Hero because I love HTC phones. I've heard so many great things about it. I have issues with taking pictures and recording videos with this phone. The picture quality is horrible and so is the video recording. I have only recorded one video...its of my 5 year old singing (25 seconds) and it looks like she is possessed! It appears that the phone cannot keep up with movement. I know it doesn't have a flash and I know how to adjust the settings. Even in bright light everything appears washed out. Are there any fixes or 3rd party apps that could resolve this? Will the new 2.1 update improve things?

Is there a way to turn off the flash and/or the shutter sound of the camera when taking a picture?
Flash Mode says auto under it, but the box is grayed out and I cannot select it to change it.
This is the same for the auto focus feature, I am unable to select that as well.

I just got my droid eris last night, and i love it! This is the first smart phone i've ever had, so i'm still learning about it.
I was really sad when i saw the quality of the photos that i took. Heres one.
I looked around on the forums before posting, and the issues i found similar to mine were on different phones, but i tried them anyways. Those threads suggested adjusting the flicker and Iso settings. messed with both, and there really wasn't a difference. I don't have the little plastic film on it either lol
A 5mp camera should not look like VGA :

I'm sorry if this has already been asked. But i already searched. Every time i make a video it has horrible quality and the sound quality is horrible too. A 5mp camera should be able to have very good quality don't you think? My friend has the i phone and i'm pretty sure its not better than 5mp and its video quality is amazing.

I noticed this under the Incredible Wikipedia page the other day as a "tip" for improving call quality;
- Go to Phone and Dial ##778
- Choose Edit Mode
- Password is 000000
- Go to CDMA Settings
- Scroll all the way to bottom
- Change Home Page, Home Orig, and Roam Orig from option EVRC to EVRC-B
- Hit Menu and Commit Changes
- Phone reboots
