Mar 24, 2010We all know the buttons are missing.. but are there any apps that could add widgets to the home screens? Or a home replacement?

View 7 RepliesI've been playing around with Home++ lately and have really been liking the feel of this home replacement. Currently I'm using DxTop and while I am really impressed with it as well, I feel like changing it up a bit.
I'm just wondering if having both of them installed on my phone is going to kill the battery faster, make it lag, or generally cause any issues with normal phone operation. Also, if I select to use one of them as my default home screen, does it automatically stop the other one or will I have two home replacements running at once?
Please post your X10 Home Screens in this thread.
Please also state the names of any apps or widgets that appear on your homescreens. If your using an alternative launcher also let us know. if anyone is using launch-x pro please post the pictures.
I have installed GDE the replacement home screens. However when i try to add widgets the only options i have are the installed widgets and no where can i add the HTC widgets....am i missing something or is this a bug in the application.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen using a home replacment like Helix, Home++, etc. does the android home still run in the background and reduce performance? I had a lot of stuff on my stock home but just switched to Helix so how do i stop/disable stock home if it is running?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you have a home replacement, could you swap it with Launcher.apk and have it be the only one running, or would that not work?
View 7 Replies View RelatedSince I'm on a 2.1 ROM with live wallpapers and a 7 screen 2.0.1 home, I thought I'd give stock home a chance. I couldn't even last the whole day - as soon as I got to work I switched it back over to sweeterhome. I'll live with the rare FCs and the long slow buggy bootups for now Anyone else addicted to their home replacement?
View 5 Replies View Relatedhey i have had my droid for about a week now and like it so far. I am getting tired of the default home so i wanted to come on here to see what homereplacement has the coolest features and the most customization. Ive seen post about home replacements but notrhing that is very helpful so if you can explain the features and ect from some that you used.
View 7 Replies View RelatedCheck out this home replacement. This thing is pretty sweet. Its laggy right now, but once it gets updated a few times I think its gonna be very nice for simplistic use. Home Replacement App: NetFront Life Screen - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
View 21 Replies View RelatedSlight Update: Now using Slide Screen. Love its simplicity, and the ability to have all in one screen. It'd be nice if they allowed you to change wallpapers, and/or the side color rainbow thing. But all in all I love it. And I am not complaining. Go to Slide Screen by Larva Labs. Or search it in the Market.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI tried Home++ yesterday and didn't like it too much although I may just have to try it again. I didn't care for that "power strip" in Home++ either (can you turn it off?). I wished it would import all the icons from my regular home screen into Home++ so I don't have to re-create everything. Does anyone else out there have a better home screen replacement program? I saw people talking about GDE but I couldn't find the actual application in the Market Place. I also looked at the Panda Home but from the screen shots, it looked weird. I like the plain-jane version that came with my phone. I don't want fancy skins or colors or bells and whistles.
View 11 Replies View RelatedThe Android Applications forum keeps misleading me because people talk about apps and features that aren't available in Android 1.5, so I thought I'd ask the other Moment owners about home replacement apps. I think I'd like something, but I'm really hesitant to pay for one that I may not like, and I also worry that I'd not really understand all I could do with one and therefore not truly appreciate it.
I've also seen very mixed reviews on nearly every home replacement app.
So I'm curious about the opinions of other Moment owners on these home replacement apps and also if there are any good places for thorough information on them.
I love the Hero, but would really like to be able to change icons, text, themes, ect.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've seen bettercut just wondering if there is any other ones out there. What's every one think.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that there are several options. I've never owned an Android phone before, but I have heard about Panda, aHome and OpenHome. I've also heard that these apps don't play nice with the Droid's resolution/format/size screen. Has anybody tried any (or preferably all) of these three apps? Are you able to provide some of the pros and cons of each so I can make an informed decision? I would like to try out some of these options, I'm a huge customization freak.
View 11 Replies View RelatedMany people would like to see scrollable widgets on their Home. As you may know, current Android stock Home doesn't support it, and HTC Sense doesn't provide any API.We propose to create an open source standard for an Home extension code allowing devs to create 3rd party widgets which support scrolling (list view). The principe have been implemented, and succesfully tested in Home++ and Pure messenger widget. Now, after discussing with other Home creators, we'd like to generalize this and include it in other Home applications. Few other Home applications devs are already integrating the Home++ code to evaluate this (FreedHome, Tag Home and HelixLauncher 1).Here is the list of interested parteners: - Helix Launcher - FreedHome - Tag Home - ADW Launcher - LauncherPro beta - GDE.During this first phase we'd like to focus on scrollable widgets but other extensions could be imagined (animations, gestures)If Google wants to use it for the next Android release, we would be very happy, but for now, the goal is to include it in a large number of alternative Home applications.
View 10 Replies View RelatedGot my warranty replacement droid yesterday. Re signed into my google account.Went to market, went to my downloads, saw large list of my apps that should have been downloaded. Went to bed. Woke up this morning, and none of my apps are on my home button.Went back to market, has about 2/3 of my apps saying 'starting download', another 1/3 saying 'installing'.But this has been 8 hours and nothing is actually installed. If I go to an app that says starting download, I can cancel it, then hit install button, and it installs. But I don't want to do this for like 30 apps if I don't have to.Also have tried a reboot, but so far, nothing better.I am connected to home wifi, so good speed. Before I got replacement phone I wiped my bad phone to see if it would help, and apps came back within an hour.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to lock the apps and widgets on the home screen and dock from moving if pressed like on jelly bean 4.3?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any way of getting the HTC apps/widgets, such as the messaging widget, and the social networking widget on the droid?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat are your favorite home screen widgets? There are plenty of lists of favorite apps but I prefer the on screen functionality of widgets without having to open the app. Here's what I am using so far:
Pandora
S2 Calendar
gTasks
MixZing
MotoTorch
Weather Forecast
If clicking the widget just opens the program then to me it's not really a widget even if the program creates an entry in the add widgets menu. So what are your favorites?
Looks like I have a dead pixel issue on my camera.. when I get a replacement, can that transfer all my settings and everything over, or do I need to downbload and install and setup everything all over again? I'm using launcher pro, and setting up all 7 home pages again takes a LOT of time.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo every time you guys are flashing different roms and stuff, are you starting from scratch downloading all your apps and configuring widgets and your home screens and all that stuff?I'd like to play around with different builds but the thought of setting everything back up, potentially multiple times, is daunting. Are you using something to backup/restore this stuff?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am googled and searched and all i keep finding is apps that will go onto the lock screen. I am looking to put Beautiful Widgets on the lock screen without having to put an app to edit the lock screen. I swore i read somewhere and seen it on a picture, but I don't know how to do it. Is it a setting that i am missing or a launcher or something. Any help would be great, like i said, I have been looking for a little over 2 weeks and can't find anything but Fly Screen and Lock Widget locker or something. Both of those are great programs, but not what i am looking for.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe X will hopefully be my first smartphone. I know it comes with 7 screens to fill up. That's a lot for some used to a feature phone. How are you Android/smartphone veterans going to organize your stuff?
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of any good home replacements on 1.5? I've only used sense, home, and slidescreen, none of which I am super happy with. Helix Launcher looks great, but I think is only 2.1.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know there have been a few threads on home replacements but I ran across one the other day (don't know if it's been mentioned here before) called LauncherPro. It is by far the fastest most stable home replacement I have ever used. It is in the market so I suggest you check it out if you are looking for something different!
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhich is the most highly recommended? I hear that both Home++ and Sweeter Home are good. I'd like something that looks like Sense UI if possible.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a replacement for the stock Car Home app for a bit, and I am completely stumped on how to override the Home button so that my app will be brought back to the foreground whenever the phone is docked. This is the way that Car Home works, so there must be a way. It seems that BroadcastReceivers won't work, because the intent that is broadcast whenever the Home button is pressed will still cause the default homescreen app to launch; I cannot prevent it. I can override the Home button from within my app, but that does me no good since this needs to work when the user is outside my app. Car Home also does not do anything weird like set itself as the default homescreen app while it's running (I checked the logcat to make sure).
I've been really beating my head against the wall on this. Does anyone have any ideas, or can you at least point me in the right direction?
I recently added home++, changing for the better the way my droid looks and works. But of course I can change back to my native "home" (or whatever you call it) by using the "home chooser." When I go back all the original widgets and settings are still there. Does this slow down the droid, use battery life, or take up too much space? I don't want to delete the original home just in case home++ doesn't work for me in a few days. Should I do anything to optimize running both "homes?"
