I know there have been a few threads on home replacements but I ran across one the other day (don't know if it's been mentioned here before) called LauncherPro. It is by far the fastest most stable home replacement I have ever used. It is in the market so I suggest you check it out if you are looking for something different!

Does anyone know of any good home replacements on 1.5? I've only used sense, home, and slidescreen, none of which I am super happy with. Helix Launcher looks great, but I think is only 2.1.

I found ahome on appbrains website, but all of the ones I find say they work for android 1.1 software and then 1.6 software. How can I get it for my droid running 1.5?

I'm wanting to know if its possible to change the folder icon to something else WITHOUT using a home replacement, I'm not ready to give up sence yet.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI just found this on gizmodo this morning. Slide Screen is a new home replacement app that "creates a meaningful hierarchy out of a your information". It's really quite awesome. I went ahead and bought the pro version. I've only been using it for about 2 hours or so, but if you enjoy organized information, this is fantastic.

When using a home replacment like Helix, Home++, etc. does the android home still run in the background and reduce performance? I had a lot of stuff on my stock home but just switched to Helix so how do i stop/disable stock home if it is running?

I couldn't even last the whole day - as soon as I got to work I switched it back over to sweeterhome. I'll live with the rare FCs and the long slow buggy bootups for now Anyone else addicted to their home replacement?

It'd be nice if they allowed you to change wallpapers, and/or the side color rainbow thing. But all in all I love it. And I am not complaining. Go to Slide Screen by Larva Labs. View 10 Replies View RelatedI tried Home++ yesterday and didn't like it too much although I may just have to try it again. I didn't care for that "power strip" in Home++ either (can you turn it off?). I wished it would import all the icons from my regular home screen into Home++ so I don't have to re-create everything. Does anyone else out there have a better home screen replacement program? I saw people talking about GDE but I couldn't find the actual application in the Market Place. I also looked at the Panda Home but from the screen shots, it looked weird. I like the plain-jane version that came with my phone. I don't want fancy skins or colors or bells and whistles.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a replacement for the stock Car Home app for a bit, and I am completely stumped on how to override the Home button so that my app will be brought back to the foreground whenever the phone is docked. This is the way that Car Home works, so there must be a way. It seems that BroadcastReceivers won't work, because the intent that is broadcast whenever the Home button is pressed will still cause the default homescreen app to launch; I cannot prevent it. I can override the Home button from within my app, but that does me no good since this needs to work when the user is outside my app. Car Home also does not do anything weird like set itself as the default homescreen app while it's running (I checked the logcat to make sure).
I've been really beating my head against the wall on this. Does anyone have any ideas, or can you at least point me in the right direction?
I've been playing around with Home++ lately and have really been liking the feel of this home replacement. Currently I'm using DxTop and while I am really impressed with it as well, I feel like changing it up a bit.
I'm just wondering if having both of them installed on my phone is going to kill the battery faster, make it lag, or generally cause any issues with normal phone operation. Also, if I select to use one of them as my default home screen, does it automatically stop the other one or will I have two home replacements running at once?
We all know the buttons are missing.. but are there any apps that could add widgets to the home screens? Or a home replacement?

View 49 Replies View RelatedHow the message threads work? I create a new message and it logs it in what ever thread was last. If I reply using messages sometimes it sends to wrong person.
Example:
I txtd person#1. then person #2 txtd me. opening messages I replied to person #2. but it went to person #1. my only guess is it goes to whom ever created the thread. very bad app. still trying to figure this out?
Like how to reply to the correct person and whom its going to. in threads?
I was trying to employ a tip I found on here which stated I could type my question in the "new thread" box and a quick search would be done to see if my question had already been answered. Must not be doing it right. As long as I have a thread made, I guess I will ask: Is there a fast way to scroll besides swiping your finger on the page? It takes a long time to get from the bottom to the top of one of these threads on my phone if I swipe it. Seems like there might be a way but I haven't run across it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHey everybody, I've looked for an answer on here, but to no avail. I tried to root my replacement Eris with 1.5, and HBOOT 1.47. Everything was going well until it got to the point of making a recovery, which for some reason, my phone wouldn't let me do. Infuriated and frustrated, I followed the steps to go back to 1.5 to a tee. However, I miss Vlingo so much, and i went to install the OTA 2.1, and it aborted the installation. I now have HBOOT 1.49.2000, so does my phone basically think I have the 2.1v3 leak, or am I just flat-out screwed? Done multiple factory resets, etc. and they haven't helped either
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out why my text message 'conversations' are merging so that they get lumped under one main 'person'?
I've only had the phone a couple days, so not a ton of messages yet. But a couple of times now, all messages have gotten 'lumped' together under one user, regardless of who they are received from or sent to.
The first time it happened, I cleared the entire thread. But now it's happening again. Even forwarding a message to someone else gets included in the same thread.
But it seems as if the messages are going to the right people, not sure. The problem is hitting 'reply'. Not sure who will get it.
Last night I downloaded the Handcent SMS client, and am using that now (disabled the notifications, etc., in the default SMS client). The HTC SMS widget seems to work OK with the Handcent client thankfully, but it is only showing the last 'conversation' of a long thread. So not sure if it's a default message app issue or not.
I have been searching but so far have not found the answer to this question: is there an app to automatically delete threads when they get to a certain length or if they have been inactive past a certain date?
My old phone just autodeleted the oldest text once you got past 100, and while it is nice to have more memory than that I do not want to go through my threads and manually delete them to stop them from taking up too much memory. anyone know/use such an app?
I'm having trouble deleting a message thread that is over 1500 messages.. Using the stock Message Delete just results in a force close after a few minutes, and using the app called SMS Quick Delete results in nothing at all, even after running for almost half an hour. Is there an easier way to do this? Is it possible to connect to my computer via usb and browse to manually delete the messages?

I've also heard that these apps don't play nice with the Droid's resolution/format/size screen. Has anybody tried any (or preferably all) of these three apps? Are you able to provide some of the pros and cons of each so I can make an informed decision? I would like to try out some of these options, I'm a huge customization freak.

I like the Eris a lot but there ARE a couple things that I think I'm getting tired of. First is it's slow most of the time, and second, the camera is just not living up to my expectations. View 2 Replies View RelatedI had an issue today where I took the phone out of my pocket to check the time and it was powered off. I went to turn it on and no skateboarding-robot love. I thought the battery might have died, but one hour and two different chargers later, it still did not turn on. My co-workers Eris was the test subject for the battery and other components. It would not turn on at all and there was no charging light showing, either.
I called Verizon and I should have my replacement device on Thursday. Until then, I'm rocking (if you'd call it that) a Blackberry Tour. It feels weird. Other than Google Voice I doubt I'll even install any apps....
I wonder if I'll get one with 1.5 and I can root it. I had already installed 2.1v2 on it. I am excited about rooting, wifi tether, and so on. There's some great ROMs out there. I actually hope it does NOT come with 2.1 already. I'll fill all of you in!
Well, it was bound to happen. Dropped my Eris getting out of the car last night. Sitting on my lap, forgot about it, stood up, and heard it hit the pavement. The battery door got some scratches, luckily nothing else happened.
Does anyone know any sites that are selling OEM battery replacement doors? I might try to go to Verizon today and see if they have one, (highly doubt it) because these scratches are killing me.
I did a factory reset last week after reading some of the posts about it here. I had some lag issues, and the Verizon tech also suggested that. I also did the *228 tip to reprogram the phone as was suggested. It was OK for a few days, but I'm having similar problems again. Before I go to Verizon, I thought I'd list them here and see what you good folks thought.
1) I still get terrible lag from time to time, and at all different times. I know that when I'm trying to do something with the battery low (under 25% lets say), its slow, but I chalk that off as understandable.
2) Sometimes when I send a text message out, I see that it takes at least 5 minutes to get sent. During this time, I do notice that time in the notification bar is anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes behind. Then, after a few minutes, catches back up to be in sync with the time shown on the HTC Sense widget on my home screen. BTW, that frozen time has occurred when the phone is just sitting there, not necessarily during a text message being sent, so SOMETHING is bogging it down.
3) Sometimes, and this has been increasing over the last few days, when I try to type something, either in a text message or in someone's contact info, I get the text box up and the virtual keyboard, but no text shows up at all when I'm typing. I see the characters that pop up, but nothing ends up in the text box. I have to exit out of that app and try again later. Very frustrating when you're trying to text someone and you have to wait 5-10 minutes to do it.
4) I know about the battery issues and how poor the battery life is. I've tried to remedy that by only checking my email, Twitter, and Facebook once per hour, but my battery still drains pretty fast. Today, for example, I took the phone off of the charger @ 7:30am. It was at 28% left @ noon! Granted, some of the issues that I describe above were going on and probably had a lot to do with that (clock lagging behind, texts taking 5 minutes to go out), but still, almost 75% of the battery gone after only 4 hours SUCKS! I've done the usual remedies (power the phone down then back on; battery pull; factory reset last week, etc.). It seems to help for a very short period of time but reverts back to the problems I describe above. So, is a trip to Verizon in my future? If they replace it, is a refurb acceptable to get? I've read varying stories ranging from "my refurb works like a charm" to "my refurb has the same issues as my old phone". I don't want to inherit the same problem, or someone else's problem. Am I basically stuck here until my "new every 2" is up in November 2011?
