LG Ally : How To Restore / Install Stock Apps?
Sep 4, 2010
I'm new to this rooting phone thing, but i was able to root and custom rom my phone. I got the velocity rom running and its great but i miss some of the old LG apps, like the digital alarm clock and the rings that came with it. I tried the appbrain app and i get errors or freezes when i try to look at the LG apps, so what do i do? Can someone give me a hint or a thread i can read?

So some idiot thinks it'd be cool if I had apps like Corporate Calendar, Amazon MP3, blah blah blah. Is there a way I can delete apps that just came on my phone so my menu is not 10 pages long? I hate clutter.
On somewhat the same note, the Verizon rep says to download Advanced Task Killer. Even when I kill some of these things they are immediately re-starting up. Then I thought I read somewhere that I shouldn't have ATK on my Android phone. Anyone wanna share the real deal?

What is the best way for restoring apps after a ROM install. Currently I am using Defrost but it updates that often I try to keep up. I have got into the practice of making a backup using ROM manager then doing a full cache and data wipe before installing the new ROM.
I have been letting the phone do its own thing and eventually the apps seem to restore themselves eventually, but is there a quicker way to restore them after a full wipe.

I want 2.2 but I removed some stock bloatware apps and my froyo OTAs always fail. Can I get the stock bloat apps back by simply doing a revert to factory settings?
I'm worried that a factory reset won't revert them because I theoretically shouldn't have been able to ever remove "system" apps in the first place. I'd like to hope/think that the developers would have this feature as part of a reset but who knows.

I'm looking for an backup application which will allow me to backup my apps and system data on roms based on stock ICS and restore to JB and vice versa.
Titanium backup does the job but after restoring on a new rom I get a lot of fc's and none of the apps works. I cannot restore call log and text messages, accounts, etc.
There's a lot of backup apps, I know. But I would like to be sure that they work as they should. Any app which will do the job?

Before applying the Turbo4 ROM, I ran Linpack to get a base number so I can compare it with the number I get after I apply Turbo4. I got a 4.188. The phone is rooted with many of the stock apps removed running the Zeam Launcher, but no other custom ROMS.
Is that a pretty good number to start with? It was higher than I was expecting because most linpack scores i've read about are in the 3's.

I went ahead and added an unmodified version of of the LG Ally V8 stock image to my listing in ROM Manager. When downloading, you will be given an option to root it if you so choose.

I downloaded TB and backed up a few apps I plan to un install eventually. Before I did it though, I wanted to make sure I understood how to restore something in case I have problems. So I went to the TB folder on my SD Card and found where the backups were, but they are not saved as .apk files so how do you restore e-install them? I open the TB app and clicked on the backup e store button, but didn't see anything about restoring. All I see is buttons for backup, freeze and un install. Am I missing something obvious?

Decided to get brave and try the whole Root thing to get rid of some of the bloatware on my Ally. I used Universal Androot to root my phone, Titanium Backup with the Batch "Backup all user apps + System data", ROM Manager to back up the ROM, and Root Explorer to change permissions so I could delete the bloatware apps. (Well, the ones I could figure out - still have a shortcut for Corporate Calendarand Socialite.)
OK - fine so far. However, when I tried to restore, the apps I deleted are still gone. I tried using the Factory Reset option in Settings - nice and clean but the same apps are missing. By this time, I've figured out I misunderstood something somewhere. The question is - can it be fixed?

I have a problem for a few days. The story is that I installed Custom ROM and it stop asking for unlock code when I insert a new carrier sim card. Somebody told me to restore to Stock Firmware. I used "KDS Firmware Update" to push Stock Firmware from my PC but when the phone restart to install Stock Firmware, Custom Recovery Mode appear instead of Stock Recovery Mode. As the result, it failed to install.
I'm looking for a way to restore Stock Recovery Mode but I found nothing. Now, how to do it or give me the Stock Recovery Image zip for my LG Optimus G E973.

i have this HTC V9899 from china, i think this is not real htc, but don't know this is cloning from which model, it looks like rezound but the rear camera is in center.you can search in google "htc v9899 cdma gsm".there is two model of v9899, the cdma-gsm and gsm 4g.the 4g version is clone to rezound, very same.i have the cdma-gsm version.
the phone specification: dual on dual standby cdma evdo rev A and gsm 2g, 1 ghz processor, 512 ram and 512 rom, adreno 200, 4.3" screen, 960x540 resolution, amoled screen, 8mp rear camera with auto focus and flashlight, front camera, ics 4.0.4
i got this phone already root, and i want to learn how to cock rom, so to backup the rom, i learn from threads that i need clockworkmod to backup and install rom, and the easieast way is to install rom manager.
so i install rom manager, and need to install cwmr, some phone list show up, i try to flash it but none work, i try many model and so far the recovery screen just show logo and hanging.
i have novo7 tool that can flash recovery.img from sdcard, i have try many recovery.img and none work too.the bad thing is i didn't backup stock recovery.img cause i don't know how.the stock revocery is e3 system recovery.the phone work fine and rooted.just when i go to recovery by pressing power with vol up button, the phone just show verizon logo and hanging.
i still can access adb with my computer and my phone with power button and vol down.how can i install clockworkmod recovery for this phone? and if can't, how can i restore stock recovery.

I felt it was a bit hard to follow the directions posted on how to restore your recovery after clockwork or allyRR (custom recovery) on a rooted ally so that ota updates will work correctly.
-If you are not rooted install a app called astro from the market and install universal androot from your sdcard ( Universal Androot Beta )
Anyway, here is my simplified version. It was tested on windows 7 x64 and x86 props to drellisdee im just restating his work (http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/146564-ally-recovery-img-here-custom-roms.html)
The file links are on his post and elsewhere on the fourm
-Download-
android sdk (found on official android site)
flash-image (needs to be unziped)
stock_recovery.img (thanks to drellisdee)
install android sdk to C:
install Lg Usbdriver - if needed copy flash_image to the root of your sdcard (remember to unzip it)
copy stock_recovery.img to the root of your sdcard
run cmd (windows command shell) as administrator by left clicking it
/ cd C:androidsdk ools (sdk's tools directory)
/ adb shell
/ $ su
you should have root # prompt on you phone, allow acess.
/ # mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
/ # cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
/ # chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
/ # mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
/ # flash_image recovery /sdcard/stock_recovery.img
/ # reboot
now your done ... wasn't that easy....if you wanted to completely revert to a stock 'out of the box' ally flash the lg v6 rom first then fix your recovery second
thanks to death2all110(How-To: Flash Stock LG Rom)
Finally i have to recommend flashing first the vzb deodexed and radio rom, then velocity 2, then the new v4 jit oc kernel and install adw launcher and set cpu @ 740mhz for max performance/max stability if you want a rooted ally... personally i used allyRR to achieve this, it personally gives me less trouble than clockworkmod... all of these file can be found on this forum or market.

Would anyone happen to have a completely stock ROM that they would upload. I'm surprised it hasn't came up yet. When I first used metamorph I didn't realize I really had no way of going back to stock because I hadn't backed up my rom backed up before hand. I did back it up before I switched to velocity but it still has R1L on it.

I recently rooted my phone. That went fine, I got the fancy # prompt without too much trouble. So I installed ROM Manager and got the ClockworkMod Recovery img. When I hit reboot into recovery from ROM Manager it booted to the LG boot screen and wouldn't go anywhere past that. I freaked thinking I was bricked. I left my phone alone for like 4 or so hours and it was fine thankfully. So I pretty much stayed away from fancy stuff like that for the past week.
Then this new firmware update comes out.
My question is... If i install the new OTA update will I lose my root access? I've read about situations where people lose their root then gain it back, I'm just curious if this is the path I will have to follow.
I have a backup of my stock ROM with root access and I'm not running any custom ROMs.

OK, this is weird. I have already used RSDLite 4.8 and the 2.2 SBF file to flash to stock once with this phone. Last night I wanted to flash back again in order to make a backup, like a dummy I forgot to last time, and try a new ROM. The RSD program ran great, took about 10 mins. Completed successfully and phone rebooted. Once it booted back up I didn't have to go through the phone setup and LauncherPro was already my launcher. None of the blur was put back on and all of my apps were still loaded and accessible. I did loose root though. Anyone experience this? If so what happened? Here is my setup. BTW, I restored a backup so I am right back to where I was before the flashing.
Froyo 2.2
APEX V1
No clock mod
Revolution Theme That is it other than apps that I have DL'ed.
