LG Ally :: Kernel Version To Have With Stock VZ8 - VZB?
Nov 1, 2010Does anyone know what kernel version I should have with the stock VZ8 or VZB?

Does anyone know what kernel version I should have with the stock VZ8 or VZB?
Rooted my friends ally, installed velocity, than installed dreds custom kernel. The phone isnt liking it at all. I got a nandroid backuo, but much rather flash a stock kernel before restoring back.
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhere I have got right now on my phone, which is:
1. I updated to stock 2.1 using the sprint update tool.
2. I followed the video tutorial to root the phone
3. then i used joey's page (http://www.joeyconway.com/sdx/custom/index.php) to install the his kernel (joeykrim-SDX-kernel v2.0.4 (includes root)).
I have done nothing else to the phone but this and removing a couple of bloatware apps (i checked the list of permitted deletions before i removed anything.) I have not installed a new recovery..at least i dont think that I did as part of one of the other operations I performed (as an aside, i am not really sure what the custom recovery is or what it is used for, so i didnt install it...i guess i need to read up more...)
So that is where I am..but i have a couple of questions.
1) i am now having issues with my wifi connection - the signal reception is very spotty in areas where i should have atleast 2 bars of reception, and the wifi often cuts out completely....Is there any know corellation between joey's kernel and this wifi issue? I have searched the forums and have found nothing that answers this.
2) Is there an easy way to get back to the stock kernel? I have read that i can get back to stock everything by using the sprint download center where I did my original 2.1 update. But is there a way to get back to just the stock kernel without wiping the phone?
Before applying the Turbo4 ROM, I ran Linpack to get a base number so I can compare it with the number I get after I apply Turbo4. I got a 4.188. The phone is rooted with many of the stock apps removed running the Zeam Launcher, but no other custom ROMS.
Is that a pretty good number to start with? It was higher than I was expecting because most linpack scores i've read about are in the 3's.
I went ahead and added an unmodified version of of the LG Ally V8 stock image to my listing in ROM Manager. When downloading, you will be given an option to root it if you so choose.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have my lg Ally with the new Jit kernel (Thanks Drellisdee), with Velocity 0.2 (Thanks Trident) and am overclocking at 768 mhz. I want to apply the new update, VZB, and then put velocity and the jit kernel back. So my thoughts are that I would have to...
1.) Backup rom/Apps/Data (Titanium Backup/ROM Manager)
2.) Go into Recovery (Clockworkmod) and make a nendroid backup.
3.) Wipe Dalvik, data, and cache.
4.) Install vzb via Drellisdee's rooted update (After i check md5)
5.) Then Apply Velocity 0.2
6.) Apply the kernel
7.) Restore data from titanium backup...
Is this what I would do? What about the ally's unofficial "V9" update that has to be installed manually... Is that worth it or should I just do VZB?
Also, do I need to go to a stock rom proior to the update?
I am using the turbo4 kernel and want to flash velocity, but noticed that on the thread for V3 there is a version modified to work with v3. I don't want to sound stupid, but is that one any different from the one I have? Do I have to flash the one from the Velocity thread before I can install velocity? Just trying keep things simple and reduce the chance for errors.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know if there's a way to tether with the USB cable. I currently have Velocity v0.03 w/ drellisdee's GNM Turbo 4 kernel. The WiFi tether works fine but I want a way to tether with wired so it doesn't eat up my Ally's battery. I seen this: android-wired-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code. But it requires RNDIS kernel (or whatever it is), and apparently the kernel I have loaded doesn't have this. Any other options or is there I can get the RNDIS kernal on my Ally? Yes, I realize it requires an app. I'm asking for a free alternative and NOT a paid one.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am in a development team which develops an app used by millions of users worldwide. We get mysterious crash log messages all the time which happens only a couple dozen or even less devices which we can not directly reproduce while the vast majority of the users can use those features without problem. We suspect that in some of these cases some custom ROM or custom kernel causes the problem. Currently we get these informations from the hardware/software environment (in the parentheses there are examples from an actual crash log):
- Android version (4.0.4)
- Board version (SPH-D710)
- Brand (Samsung)
- System build number (IMM76I.FH13)
- System build ID (IMM76I)
I have a Nexus S with ParanoidAndroid, and on the About Phone page there are the extra fields I speak about (for example CyanogenMod version, ParanoidAndroid version, kernel version). My question is that is there an universal way to extract all or some of this information which could work on any device?
I need the vending.API that was installed with the vzb ota update.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just read in another forum that the LG Ally will be getting an upgrade to a new software version ZVB.
Please do not confuse this with FROYO 2.2 Upgrade! This is a software update for features in the device NOT a OS update.
The update will be done via GOTA (Google Over the Air), this means that the update will happen automatically, the same way the V08 update happened in the past.
Can jellybean run on my existing kernel 2.6.35.7 version or does it need specific one?

Okay so I had a problem with an app, it would never download and stay at the installing progress bar for days. I looked up the solution online and they told me to go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Market>Uninstall Updates. I did that and now I have the old version on the Market, so I don't have automatic updating and there is no "Update All" button, so I can't do that either. I tried rebooting my phone, no luck. Unrooting and rebooting, still no luck. How can I update back to the newest version?
View 1 Replies View RelatedEveryone probably has the exact same Build Number, but than again, maybe a couple don't. So after a search, I was not able to find a thread like this, so here it is. I just received my X10 yesterday and per Sony Support, my X10 has the current OS. So here is my info:
Firmware Version: 1.6
Baseband Version: 1.1.32
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-rel
Build Number: R2CA016
Just like the title says, I'm at the laundrymat on my phone so I didn't have the option to search the forums. I wiped the data, and did a back up. But I would like to use chevys kernel vs a p3, just my preference.

Does anyone have a copy of the regular stock kernel for the Dinc?
View 16 Replies View Relatedwhat kernel are you guys running i have tried kings and netarchy just wondering what else. If your not using it on a stock rooted 2.2 then no need to post in here.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThey tell me this will change again when the Droid X and Samsung Galaxy get 2.2 - I wouldn't know. Until then, here's our moment in the sun. Made this using the Quadrant benchmark, free from the Market, using a the stock rooted 2.2 rom and the netarchy-toastmod 3.7.6c kernel with the 30 fps cap lifted. No over-clocking, no hair-on-fire super tweaks, no killing every process to tweak the benchmark - just downloaded and run, the number on the bar says 1165.

The Nexus One 2.2 at the top uses the exact same processor (aside from the radio-control circuit) as our EVO. I attribute its higher score to the fact that it's sleeker and not running Sense. I happen to like Sense so I don't care.
Last night I rooted 2.2 with UnrEVOked 3.21, and I'm pleased that I have Titanium Backup and Wifi Tether. The only other two things I wanted to have were uncapped FPS, and some better battery life. In another thread, I read that you may use a different kernel without using a different ROM. I downloaded KiNgxKernel's BFS #9 and installed, and while I got the frame rate I was looking for, the operating system went in to super laggy mode. It was unusable, so I booted in to recovery and restored the stock kernel from my nandroid backup.
Does anyone have any recommendation on a kernel I can use with the stock ROM?
Also, one other question, I constantly see people advise that cache clearing is vital when changing kernels. I am only aware of Dalvik cache, and the menu option in recovery to clear that cache. I also read many posts that say clearing it is unreliable and only possible with a full wipe. Can someone clarify please?
Thanks guys!
Right now Im on stock 2.1 rooted. A few little issues I had with other ROMs and overclocking are totally gone which is great. I would like to try some different kernels, however, to see if it was the ROM or just the kernels I was using.
Anyways, how do I get back to the stock kernel if I change to a different one? If I have a recent nandroid, can I just restore one of the partitions? I would like to retain all of my data throughout the process so Id like to avoid doing a full nandroid restore if possible should I have problems and just restore the kernel.
Thanks

I would like to ask how I can install this on my N1, is it just a matter of downloading the right file, renaming it to update.zip and then doing what I've done to update my phone as with official updates?
