Android :: Need GPS Navigation Stuff For Making Bookmarks Of Places
Dec 7, 2009Firstly, I wanted to mention taht I live in Canada, so that might mean some solution do, or don't exist. What I am looking for is some sort of smart phone that can do the following: GPS navigation stuff, makeing bookmarks of places, and entering coordinates is good. Voice over IP . even if it is using the voice implementation of something like ventrally, that would work, even better is to have it act like a true phone. Ideally I want to do this so that I can use WIFI network, rather then phone minites, to keep monthly cost down. Phone and video are cool and all, but on my current "dumb" phone I don't use them at all.

Sep 21, 2010so these apps have popped up randomly in my applications list and it wont let me trash them. they do not show up in manage applications either. i think i might have accidentally clicked on the location tab or whatever the hell it is in facebook and i dont want these running, nor do i want them on my app list. how can i get rid of them? Android :: Want Old Version Of Google Places Directory Standalone App?
Oct 22, 2010Does anyone know where I can find the old version of the google places directory standalone app? I don't like the new one integrated with maps. I can't figure out how to set a location other than my current location when searching places. I guess if someone can tell me how to search for places NEAR an address or point on the map that I choose, it will be ok. I still don't like the interface as well as the old one though.

Feb 19, 2012I've been looking for an app that I can quickly launch (widget is even better!), grab my current location using GPS and save it to an existing layer in my google maps account. If I can also a label to the point that would be ideal. After googling awhile I found "My Maps Editor" but it looks like it got the ax at some point.
As far as I know, you can view "My Places" from google maps in the mobile version using layers, but can't edit them. Even if you could edit it, it'd be a hassle to load up the layer each time when I just want to mark a spot on the map quickly.
I know you can star locations, but I've been using My Maps/Places for awhile so I'm a little locked in at this point.

Oct 9, 2010So I got my Ally on Thursday and have been messing around with the features. One thing I've found is that I cannot clear the Navigation history. I've searched google and read several threads that mention going into Manage Applications, then clicking on Maps and clearing the cache there. The problem is, I did that and the address under Recent Destinations still displays. I'm running Froyo. Does anyone know how to successfully clear this?

I wanted to put the google navigator icon (the blue arrow) on her home screen but could not find it anywhere in her apps. I did find the google navigation (map icon) app and set that up for her. I looked up the solution online and they told me to go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Market>Uninstall Updates. I did that and now I have the old version on the Market, so I don't have automatic updating and there is no "Update All" button, so I can't do that either. I tried rebooting my phone, no luck. Oct 8, 2010Finally got Velocity installed and setup the way I like it. It's a tremendous improvement in overall performance compared to the stock. Kudos to Trident for taking the time to put this together for all of us. I only have one problem with it that I hope I can do something about or I may end up back on the stock ROM. Velocity comes with the latest Google maps version, which I hate because you can't clear the data so over time the app builds up more and more used space. Since I use the Google Maps Navigation pretty much everyday for work, that's going to be a small problem. Does anyone know if there is an app out there that allows you to clear the map data periodically? Or is there a way I can push the stock Map app into Velocity and do what I did before and simply ignore the update notices? I know I can just keep uninstalling it and reinstalling it periodically and i may end up doing that if there is no way to clear the data because I would really like to keep Velocity. I hope this doesn't come across as a knock on Velocity because it's not meant to be. I think it's a tremendous upgrade to the Ally and if it wasn't for my unique situation of using Google Maps so much, I wouldn't even be asking.

Oct 19, 2010Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I travel extensively on the road and always use the google nav. The problem is when a phone call comes in within 30sec. to a minute at the most the Evo reboots itself. This has happened to three different phones. I drive a vehicle equipped with bluetooth and have synced my phone to the car and the same thing happens when I get a call and answer through the car while using google nav. Was also wondering why the heck google didnt think about automatically muting the voice on the nav while in a call...it's so annoying while talking to hear the nav voice talking in your ear. The other caller can not here it but its very loud in your ear while trying to talk.
