I'm new to android, and I was trying to download some .zip and apk files from chrome and it kept saying download failed? Is there something I need to do in settings or something?

Google Chrome doesn't trust my university's website where all of my school documents and resources are, and thus won't let me download any files from the site. It's nothing crazy or illegitimate, it's my school's site... it just makes it difficult when I want to download pdf files or word documents to work on the go. Any remedy at all aside from downloading on my computer and saving to Google drive?

I downloaded the update file (279e5e2396480cbffd97943a5db5bbc743ef7e77.signed-mantaray-KRT16O-from-JWR66Y.279e5e23.zip) placed it in my rooted device and started twrp custom recovery.
When i click on flash a zip file the flash always fails?
normally I have sync turned off to prolong battery life but it also removes the capability to see the desktop bookmarks while in Android's Chrome browser. I thought the bookmarks were stored locally and then synced back when sync turned on.
To see desktop bookmarks I have to flip the sync on do my thing and then flip it back off when I'm done browsing.
I'd like to make my browser continue loading homepages, even when I'm not starring at the respective tab. Hardware-wise this should be entirely possible with a Quad-Core CPU.
Right now, there is no root or custom ROM on my device which I'm willing to change in favor of the above improvement.

View 1 Replies View Relatedtrying to DL white window 4.4 to my SD card over 3g. tried in default browser and it said unable to DL. in opera mini 5 the DL makes no progress then eventually fails. have tried multiple links. just wondering why it won't work. any ideas? I'm really just screwing around anyway so its not a huge deal. also using tainted vanilla 1.4 if that makes a difference.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use an AlarmManager to run a Service which tries to download a file from the web. If it fails I'd like to retry that Service in 5 minutes.
Inside the Service I run an AsyncTask to run my code. As far as I know the only way I can tell if it failed or not is from the onPostExecute().
What is the best way of implementing a retry of that Service again?
I was just thinking that one day in the near future we will have Google operating systems on all of our devices i.e. phone, laptop, and tablet/pad. I am not sure what if any difference between Chrome and Android and how this will affect the likes of Microsoft and Apple. i have a severe problem with eclipse, where i need to compile a somewhat larger class. by "larger" i mean, the class has about 5000 lines of code... problem is that on saving this project, eclipse takes several seconds (30-40) to "build the workspace". to be exact, it says "50%" and keeps saying that for 30-40 seconds. then, it breaks with the following error:

Verizon Galaxy Note 3, up-to-date, stock ROM, not rooted.
I have a 64gb MicroSD card installed, and put a copy of my photography website on it. I find I am unable to figure out a way to open it in Google Chrome.
I used ES File Explorer's FTP function to begin with, to copy files from my website to the card, and this worked beautifully. When I click on the index.html file on the card, the only options offered are HTML Viewer and some text editors. Chrome is not an option (Chrome is the default browser for my phone). I can try "Open as" and choose Chrome, but get the same error message as below.
If I long-press the file, and select Properties, I can copy the (full) Path for the file, but when I paste this into Chrome's URL bar, it won't open:
Access to the file was denied "The file at file:///storage/extSdCard/PhotoWebsite/index.html is not readable. It may have been removed, moved, or file permissions may be preventing access"
I have searched quite a bit, and tried various addresses, including localhost, localhost/mnt, content:, etc., etc., but nothing seems to work.
Ultimately I want to have a Bookmark in Chrome where I can view my website offline when necessary, but this seems to be more complex than would appear necessary.
I have just try'd to download Google Experience Launcher that would be able for all Android OS devices.The first Google Service File worked for me.But the two others incl. Google Search file and GoogleHome.apk failed to open.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to download the SMS app from XDA and the guy has it up as a zip file. I download it and extract it, and it's a folder with random crap in it. No apk.
Then I read that I just change the file name. I'm on a Mac, so I change the filename and it verifies if I want to change it from .zip to .apk and I say "yes." Put it on my card and Astro still doesn't recognize it. It's list, but it's an icon with a window and a gear in front of it.
I installed the Vanilla email app, no problem. Not sure what the deal is with this one.
I used to be able to download anything on my galaxy note 3 to my downloads app, but now it will download fine and when I click on it, it will say "Cannot open file".
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a tmobile Galaxy S3, pretty much stock. Ever since I got the recent 4.3 OTA upgrade constantly. Several times per hour, sometimes several times per minute. Sometimes I'll see it appear then flash away and come back while I'm staring at it, making it hard to pick things off the notification menu for all the jumping around.
I did once (months ago) download that from either the web or Google Drive (I suspect the later)... I can't open the file (it says "This Document Cannot be Opened" if I click on it) and the notice comes back. Even if I download another copy, I still get the notice, clearing Drive's cache didn't fix it, neither did uininstalling Drive altogether).
Is there a way to change the default download directory for anything I download such as attachments, pdfs, etc? Android 4.4.2. Seemingly simple thing but I couldn't find it.
Is there a geeky user manual for Kit Kat?
I have broken the screen on my s3, and have several hidden folders and files using a '.' at the beginning of the filename. I know that Windows won't find the files/folders that use the '.' method, but would it be possible to emulate Linux on my pc (running Windows 8) to find and rename these files?

I unrooted it using SuperSU but when I went to install the latest KitKat update (4.4.2) it flashed the yellow triangle and said I had unauthorized software and I needed to contact the Verizon store. I did the down volume-home-power thing and took care of that but it is clear to me that even though SuperSU says my phone is unrooted it isn't. How do I really unroot my phone?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Virgin Mobile Galaxy S3 that just got the 4.4 update this morning. Afterwards it had to redownload/update nearly every app on the device as well as all my SNES and Playsation ROMs which I though was odd.
Now all the notifications for thos downloads will not go away. I've cleared them all at once, I've cleared them all individually. When I turn the screen off and then turn it back on an dunlock the phone all those notifications are back in the notification bar.
I was prompted to update to Kit Kat on my Samsung Galaxy S3 this morning. The updated downloaded & installed without any issues - but now the same 3 notifications are constantly displayed on my phone. If I clear, they come back. Same for when I re-boot my phone:

It has only happened since this update and it's getting very irritating having these display permanently and come back seconds after I clear each time.
I downloaded about 10GB of media files onto my Android 5 today - all play fine on the phone it self without any issues. I attempted to move them from the phone to PC, but when ever I try playing them or moving them, I receive an error message: error 0x80040000: invalid oleverb structure.
I've tried Googling this, but I can't find anything specific to the Android. I can transfer much smaller files to and from the phone without any issues.
Unfortunately I don't have a home data package to transfer files via wifi...
