Android :: Eclipse Fails To Build Workspace On Large Files?
Jul 9, 2010
i have a severe problem with eclipse, where i need to compile a somewhat larger class. by "larger" i mean, the class has about 5000 lines of code... problem is that on saving this project, eclipse takes several seconds (30-40) to "build the workspace". to be exact, it says "50%" and keeps saying that for 30-40 seconds. then, it breaks with the following error:
[console]:
[2010-07-09 15:28:39 - Dex Loader] Unable to execute dex: null
[2010-07-09 15:28:39 - myProject] Conversion to Dalvik format failed: Unable to execute dex: null
[problems window]:
Conversion to Dalvik format failed: Unable to execute dex: null this error is reproducible and keeps popping up until i comment out several thousands LOC, so that the file still has this 5k LOC, but ~2000 of them are comments. THEN it works...
i know that 5000 LOC are no really good programming style, but i need to do it this way for now ... (i have to write this much records to a sqlite database and since sqlite doesnt feature multiple sql-queries in one rawQuery-command i have to execute a single rawQuery() for each and every data record i need to push into the db.... - until i write a file reader to read this data from a file (that needs verification etc)), i'm stuck with this solution...)

I have already created this project, but I wanted to start over. deleted the HelloAndroid folder from my workspace folder restarted Eclipse now I can't create a project with the same name, because Finish is greyed out, and it gives me the following message: A project with that name already exists in the workspace eclipse
How can I completely delete my old HellowAndroid project from Eclipse?

I'm storing my Android project in a Subversion repository. After recently shuffling a bunch of stuff around I started getting tons of errors like: syntax error entries/project_name/src/.svnline 1Android AIDL Problem syntax error don't know what to do with "" entries/project_name/src/.svnline 28Android AIDL Problem etc.
It seems as if Eclipse is trying to build the files in the .svn directories now. This setup used to work fine.

When i try to clean and rebuild a project, eclipse hangs on the "building workspace" progress bar. the last thing i did was paste an image into a drawable folder - that caused a lockup and i forced eclipse close. now it's not rebuilding the project.

I have an interesting problem. I pull down an android project from cvs, which works fine. Once Eclipse builds the project, my .java files are removed. XML files, pngs, everything else is fine. I seem to be left with just the package tree, but no source files. Any thoughts?

I use Eclipse Luna. I had the problem that it hanged on start. So I started it with eclipse -clean. Now it's alright except for workspace settings.
I want Eclipse to automatically start with a particular workspace like it was before the eclipse -clean start.
Now Eclipse starts without opening the saved workspace. But the workspace is saved somewhere because I can choose it at File->Switch Workspace->D:workspaceEclipse.
When I choose it Eclipse is restarting and opening D:workspaceEclipse automatically. But the workspace directory is only saved for one start.
When I exit Eclipse (File->Exit) and make a new start it is again starting with empty workspace and I have again to choose File->Switch Workspace->D:workspaceEclipse.But I want to open the workspace D:workspaceEclipse automatically for ever like it was before the Eclipse start with -clean parameter.

Does dalvik have any limitation it puts on classfiles, mainly size related? In groovy we have a huge class thats need to be able to be reflected upon, but it silently fails. IE theres no error during build(dex) or load time but calls to the reflective methods throws a no such method exception. This file is above 13000 lines of code and contains a vast number of methods so size limitations seems probable, or are there any other ways reflection can fail for a normal java class? Oh, and cutting the file down in size made it work but is not optimal since it contains all of groovy's utility methods.

The Eclipse build for my 1.6 application project is succeeding and the Ant build is failing. I'm looking for help on why they aren't behaving the same way.
We are developing on Mac OSX 10.5.8 with Eclipse 3.5 against SDK 1.6 + Google APIs. There are no setting changes in Eclipse, either at workspace or project level. Similarly, our ant is also a vanilla-flavored unmodified installation of 1.7.1. JDK is 1.5.0_22. The CLASSPATH environment variable is not set. JAVA_HOME is /Library/Java/Home
The application was initially created by a team member using the Eclipse plugins. The application references two jar files, one of which has a dependency on javax.xml.bind.annotation.XmlSeeAlso, which is not defined anywhere in our code or in android.jar. The other jar file has an explicit dependency on android.jar. I generated the Ant build file using android update.
The Eclipse project builds an apk and runs the application in the emulator. I think this is incorrect behavior.
The Android ant project fails to build. I think this is correct behavior. MyClass.java:98: cannot access javax.xml.bind.annotation.XmlSeeAlso [javac] file javax/xml/bind/annotation/XmlSeeAlso.class not found
Why the two build methods are behaving differently? I would expect them both to fail.

I am using Eclipse 3.5 for Jave EE Developers. Plugins installed include: Android Development Tools, Adobe Flash Builder 4, PDT, PyDev. I have problem with running the application I built. I can start a new project, add a button, and run it on an AVD. Then I add another button, try to run it on AVD, and Eclipse says 1) gen folder is missing, 2) there are errors with build path.
I can get ride of the first error by simply refreshing the project in the left pane, but the second error always sticks around. I searched online and on StackOverflow here and here, although several people have the same problem, there is no definite solution I can find.

I had a project working in Eclipse completely, but after compiling it with ant in order to use Proguard to obfuscate the code the entire project fell apart. The project consists of a single package containing two main activities and 4 helper classes to handle databases and such. After using ant the activities work fine but Eclipse cannot find the helper classes and won't build. Even if I explicitly import the classes the error I get is
The import com.ts.routeTracking.DataHelper cannot be resolved while further mentions of the class get the error DataHelper cannot be resolved to a type. How can I get Eclipse and ant to work together?

I'm working with Android at the moment, trying to avoid using Eclipse (for which I have an irrational hatred).
I need to include an external .jar file (used in my Activity)and have no idea how to link it for ant debug...
I've read up on build.xml files but adding <path id="compiler.classpath">...</...> or <classpath> nodes to the XML doesn't help fix it.

I am looking for an application that can handle large PDF files smoothly. I have tried adobe reader, pdf viewer and RepliGo. They were not very impressive, therefore I have come here for suggestions. Repligo reader I think was better out of the three but I couldn't view a PDF file that had scanned images on it. Was hoping someone could recommend an app that could handle large PDFs and PDFs that contained scanned images.

Apparently you can't have a file in "assets" larger than 1MB (except for certain file types) because it's considered too large to uncompress. But I'm finding mixed info about how to circumvent this limitation. Some say that you can put the files in "raw" and avoid the limitation but others say that files in "raw" are compressed too.And there's the -0 aapt option that can be used to turn off compression for certain file types, but there's no way to specify aapt options in Carbide. I realize that I can break the file into pieces, but that's error- prone on both ends. And using one of the known uncompressed file types not only confuses things but also runs the risk that the Android PTB will decide to start compressing that file type.

I'm using the stock Android 2.1 gallery to view images. I have a large JPG image (approx 7000x7000 pixels) of bicycle route map for my city. I tried zooming and scrolling with the gallery image viewer, but it cannot zoom in close enough to read the map detail.
Is there a better image viewer app out there that is good for zooming and scrolling large JPG images?
I would like to use Google maps, but the bicycle route mode still does not work in the Android app.

I've tried downloading/transferring several files to my incredible over 3g. Tried downloading a couple times through the stock browser and also i've tried downloading through dropbox but every time the download gets randomly interrupted sometime between when 20mb - 100mb is done. I am not getting any calls or texts or anything that would interrupt it - it seems like the phone is going to sleep in the middle of the download or something. The files I am trying to transfer are approx 200mb .MP4 files and .MP3 files. Anyone know how to fix this problem and/or know of an app that will let you download or transfer large files from my home computer or from HTTP through my web host? On my BB Storm I had to use opera browser to download large files so maybe a different browser would work?

I am trying to build my first project for Android platform using the Eclipse IDE. The problem I am facing is that there is no option under the "Build Target" label in the New Android Project dialog box. And, hence I am not able to proceed beyond this dialog box (as the "Next" button is deactivated.) The online documentation says, "Under Target, select an Android target to be used as the project's Build Target. The Build Target specifies which Android platform you'd like your application built against." Could anyone tell me how to bring options under "Target" label. I am using Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) and have installed latest Android SDK as well as all Android Platform components. The screenshot of the dialog box is available at : http://shared.pho.to/B2BF3343-D5DD-4ED4-F50F-468BEFC7698E
